On 05/17/2017, I received a letter stating that I was suspended from the University of Houston (UH) as a result of my unsatisfactory academic performances over the last couple of semesters. I take complete responsibility for my academic inadequacies and I’m fully aware of the university’s policies regarding academic dismissals. I am writing this statement to prove my readiness to return for the spring 2018 semester.
During my time away from UH, I had to leave the U.S because my suspension voided my student visa. I was fortunate to get a full-time job as a retail sales associate at a shopping complex in my home country. In addition, I attended a five-day open seminar on time management to provide the kick-start needed for my academic recovery.

The first thing on my agenda is to enroll in Programs for Academic Development and Retention (PADR), and make regular arrangements with the TTU Student Counseling Center Services to support me with my academic recovery. Moreover, with the assistance of the university’s Learning Center workshops and the one-one academic coaching, I will allocate more time to my academic work and improve on my time management, study skills, and decision making. I understand that it is my sole responsibility to balance my social and academic life. I have to severely reduce my non-academic commitments and prioritize my academic endeavors over everything else. I also have to eliminate activities that take valuable time away from my academic work. After I was placed on academic probation, I didn’t seek academic assistance from the university’s support services or tutors. I continued to remain oblivious to the extent of my academic demise until I was eventually suspended. I will proactively manage my class schedules by speaking more often to my academic advisor to ensure my academic success remains the predominant priority. In order to get the best out of my courses and ensure I don’t lag behind, I have to form better relationships with my instructors by communicating in class or during office hours—something I’m guilty of not doing in the
The previous semester, which was my first semester at Howard’s University, was hindered, because of the new environment and different style of teaching. Being homesick also prevented me from meeting my set goals for academic progress. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reviews all students at the end of both the fall and spring semester and summer term to determine their academic standing. Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences must maintain a 2.0 cumulative KU GPA in order to be in good academic standing. It brings me great displeasure to write this appeal due to the circumstances of my unwarranted suspension from a fraternity I hold dear to my heart. The informational interviews not only helped being the classroom to the real world but also provided me with real examples to better strengthen the connection. I also learned a lot in terms of dealing with the public in a busy environment and how to most successfully defuse a situation in which alcohol and attitudes are involved.
I am writing this letter in regards to my financial aid suspension due to unsatisfactory academic progress and to having taken more than 90 credit hours. About eight students interviewed about causes that led them to earn academic warnings or to be placed on academic probation. Even though all of the students were previously successful in high school, they were not able to maintain required GPA in college. Most of the students admitted that they were not able to manage their time and had very low self-motivation. The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Like any other person, I eventually gained the understanding and importance of essential qualities like time management, work ethic, developing strong mental mindset, and many other things throughout my years of education. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success. Over time I’ve realized that the most critical part of success was gaining the discipline and willpower to apply these lessons and concepts.
