The second post for AAS meeting will be dedicated mostly on my first experience in poster presentation.
During mid-October, my advisor and I decided that I should give a poster presentation on my current research project at AAS as a good way to introduce my project to the community in order to gather feedbacks about it. I spent around two weeks in December working on the poster from creating a template for the poster, generating the information, figures and diagram, and finalizing the poster. It was a rewarding experience as you got to see the physical poster at the end. We decided to use a fabric poster for easy packing and traveling which made an awesome poster.

Some people argue that poster presentation is more useful than oral presentation as the speakers have more time to interact, answer questions, and clarify with the audience during the poster session. However, one of the downside for poster presentation is the time spent at the poster. In order for a poster presentation to be as effective as possible, you have to spend most of the day at the poster and ready to present your results to anyone who might stop by. But, this also implies that you will do not have any time that day to participate in some other events. Specifically, I was really excited to participate in the Hack Day at the conference, but I could attend as I had to present my poster. I did not say that I would rather attend the Hack Day than presenting my poster. I simply said that by doing so, I limited myself to fewer things that I could potentially do that day.

The presentation was also an impressive experience. I never made a presentation in front of “foreigners” in English before, so I was very nervous, however, the feedback from professor and other students was very important. I used the form, short story, but after the presentation, professor told me that I cannot use short story as form and some students suggested me to use an advertisement to convey my message. My project’s goal was also kind of ambiguous.
I have improved most in the WOVE area of visual communication this semester. Beginning the course, I did not know the correct way to create a powerpoint presentation that supports the speaker without being a distraction. This semester, I learned that only minimal wording is required on the slides to deliver the main points. The majority of the slideshow can be pictures, charts, or graphs, so long as it remains relevant to the topic. I specifically remember using this new technique for my part of the visual analysis presentation, keeping my bullet points to under five words, if possible.
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
As I sat on edge of my bed, questioning all of my thoughts and caught in a storm of overthinking, “I got it!” I said, “I want to become an astrophysicist!” A tornado swept away my dream of becoming an architect and crushed my attitude towards becoming an astronaut...and I couldn’t have been happier. My whole life, nothing has been more confusing to me than my future. I pondered and pondered about what it is I wanted to do, and in doing so, I found a purpose for myself. However useful or useless life may be, I knew I could make something of it, and now the astrophysics has become a part of my identity. Sequence: I use sequence first in all areas of my life such as school, work and also personal relationships. I need step by step direction before I can start any tasks and delivers what is expected of me. I am well-ordered, very detailed oriented and I like to know what is going to happen next. I need time to complete my work so I set a schedule for everything since I thrive on a well-organized life.
On Thursday, September 15, 2016 there was a board meeting in the Education center in Philadelphia. There were seven board members on the school board meeting position; five woman, two men; two African Americans and five Caucasians. Multiple genders and ethnic groups attended the meeting and the audience were sitting in a theater setting, where as the board members were sitting facing the audience up front. It started at 4:30 p.m. and a African American man did attendance to people that were going to speak and talked about the agenda of what 's going on that evening. Also there was two people taking turns presenting sign language for anyone that was death.
During the 4 weeks of my rotation, I thoroughly interviewed and examined numerous new and follow up patients in the CICU with a myriad of Heart Failure and Arrhythmia presentations. I devised and augmented patient-tailored management plans under direct supervision of the team's attending physicians; this included relative workup, definitive therapy and follow up. I also took part with the residents in their daily activities and helped them with various procedures including insertion of central lines, arterial lines and taking part in CODEs. I also attended NOON Conferences daily and Grand Rounds
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
In the end, my team and I got an A- for our presentation and paper. I believe that this project was completely successful and although there were some difficult times throughout the process, I am proud to say that we all stayed committed to the project. I feel that this was my most significant leadership experience because I used everything I learned through my experience in business organizations to make this project come to life. I felt that I showed the qualities of a good leader because I was determined, motivated, worked well with the team, delegated tasks to the team effectively, and communicated with the team to make this project
Going into the tour, I was not entirely sure what to expect, but I was looking forward to it. Thursday started in a rush, with the opening ceremonies. There the ASHA president talked about her experience as a speech pathologist, as well as touching on her own brother as a source of inspiration—one that had died recently, but had had Down Syndrome. That alone was enough to pique my interest, and her entire story seemed in tune with my own for why speech pathology is important. From the opening session, many people went after the ice cream, but I instead found a quiet place to look through the book of presentations and posters. I have known from other conferences that I have been to that there are usually far too many sessions to go to in one day—because all the good ones seem to happen at the same time—but here there were even more than I had ever expected. Dozens upon dozens all occurring at the same time, and all ones that I wished to attend. Thankfully, the poster session happened all day long, so I could at least stop by the posters that I really wanted to see.
Practice is a major role that needs to be played when it comes to presenting. Practicing, I feel gives you more confidence in your speech, and more preparation than if you were to not practice. Rehearsing before the speech then presenting makes you seem like you actually know what you are talking about even if the only reason you know all these facts is because of study and practicing. Practicing through my speech really helps me with my presentation, if I practice enough, I feel very confident to where I wouldn’t need t a paper to look at notes during the speech. This concept is important for anything. Practicing will always help you with any future task.
I attended an AA meeting held on a Tuesday at St Stephens Catholic Church. It was an open –discussion meeting and as I walked into the room I was greeted right away by an older gentleman who welcomed me in and offered me some coffee and a snack. I was handed a book and a coin as I sat down and explained that the book was called the big book. The coin had the serenity prayer and AA logo on it. I felt a little uncomfortable because there were only older men sitting around the table at the time I walked in. I soon began to feel better when two women joined the grouped. There were about fifteen people total and about five of them were women. The overall tone of the meeting was friendly and welcoming. The meeting was called to order by the
