I believe that enrichment is an important part of the college experience. Beyond academics, personal growth and intellectual development outside of the classroom are also key components of the college years. In my opinion, study abroad is a great opportunity that can enhance my UW life and help me to gain different perspectives. I used to be the person who would stick with a small circle of friends, but after traveling to Europe, I realized that being abroad is a great way to open my mind, to listen to different voices, and to learn from all kinds of interesting ideas. Last summer I spent one month in Europe with other high school students who were from Los Angles, Tennessee, and Guam. From my last travel experience, I learned a lot more about myself and also, more importantly, about friendship and personal connections, because of the unique places in which we spent exploring. That month living abroad was a meaningful experience, because it allowed me to adapt to things that were unfamiliar and unusual. Therefore, now I have a strong desire to explore European counties more and I believe that a study abroad experience could let me acquire greater knowledge and understanding of the foreign cultures. I always wanted to study abroad in Paris. I was fascinated with its beautiful scenery. To me, the city has a very deep history, which is exemplified in its architecture and landscape, and nothing is more gorgeous than cruising on the Seine in view of the buildings where kings and queens use to live. I am an engineering student but I always wished that I could do something art related, to apply math and science in other fields. I was really excited that UW is offering this program, and not only I want to know more about the French Baroqu... ... middle of paper ... ...linguistic skills, and to learn more about the French culture through students my own age. I will try my best to get involved in French society and absorb diverse studying experiences. This scientific exploration of art and architecture in France program is well suited to my academic interests. I'm a self-motivated person. As a UW freshman, I participated in many extra-curricular activities such as ASUW Student Senate. I’m also currently volunteering in a Bioengineering research group. I have a strong passion in science and architecture and I look forward to getting this opportunity to learn more and improve more as a college student. I would like to study abroad to gain personal independence and the abilities to live in a group and adapt to a different culture. Through interacting within a foreign environment, my eyes will be widening to the new aspects of life.
