Participation in the DIS program will contribute to the expansion of my knowledge and learning experiences beyond new horizons for my academic goals. Through participation in the DIS program, the knowledge and experiences I gain will help put me at an advantage over my peers at Augsburg College, thanks to the opportunity of being able to spend a semester in Copenhagen. Not only will I have gone through new experiences of being in a new setting, but I will have also gained a privilege of learning from a different point of view from new professors, peers, and local Danes. This program will be giving me the opportunity to be present in a new culture, which has the capabilities to shed light on my learning abilities and the way I experience life …show more content…
For many people, studying abroad is an opportunity that is out of the question, in other situations, it might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. For myself, I would consider this chance to go abroad a once in a lifetime opportunity. To be given this option of spending my spring semester abroad holds a lot of value for me. The value that people hold about studying abroad may vary from person to person because each person measures what they value differently. To be taking on such a special opportunity to spend a semester in a different country, I understand that I will be exposed to a new culture and different lifestyles, but it’s an experience that may not come around again. To me, I hold this value of studying abroad to be a special chance to experience a new culture, new learning techniques, and meeting new people as something so valuable that it’s an experience I don’t want to live …show more content…
I know that my term abroad will involve much more than site seeing, trying new food, and meeting new people, it will bring out a lifelong story to share what I experienced academically, personally, and professionally. Academically, I hope to be able to share my learning experiences, from the objectives learned in the courses to the different techniques used. Taking what I learn abroad, I would have the option to implement the knowledge gained into future courses I take and share insights and perceptions that were used, with my peers at my home campus. There are obviously countless experiences one gains personally from studying abroad. My hope is that I am able to look back on the friendships and connections I created, and the life lessons I was confronted with. Living a whole semester in a different country will bring along the involvement of learning how to live within a society that differs from what I’m use to. I expect to use my new cultural experiences in hopes that it will assist me down the road when adjusting to new environments and situations. Lastly, I hope that I am able to gain experience that can be utilized within future professional work. Being able to utilize my experiences and knowledge gained from being abroad in a future job would be great. Most importantly, I hope that what I learn abroad can be applied to everyday experiences and be put towards
Studying abroad is a dream for many people especially, who live in a country that has lacks education. It is possible that a dream realized for those who they want. However, it has many consequences, causing lack of livelihood to adapt to the different languages and cultures. Eva Hoffman, author of “Lost in Translation” wrote about her experience when she moved from Poland to Canada as a teenager. She felt as a “felt persona” when she merged with Canadians with different culture and language. Also, she felt as a woman who has two different figures, causing a lack of acclimatization. My own experience is similar Hoffman’s experience but, the most different thing that made me a little comfortable is trying to convince myself that
I have heard many great things about studying abroad from family and friends. I hear things, including: studying abroad allows one to experience another culture directly, helps you develop new skills that you cannot learn in a classroom, and also helps one learn about themselves. Listening to the people close to me talk about how amazing their time abroad, was made me realize it is something I desire to do. I know this opportunity will be extremely beneficial to me for numerous reasons: I want to learn more about who I am and my values, I have never been off of the continent before, it is a great thing to put on my résumé and will enhance employment opportunities. I will value studying abroad in Italy because this experience will assist me
Being an international student was challenging and full of excitement. Challenging in a sense that I studied in a foreign land in a totally new environment, interacted with foreign tutors and met and grouped with different nationalities. The six months of hard work to finished the seven taught papers was rewarding and fulfilling, especially when I received the much-awaited grades for each paper. Full of excitement because I have met many friends not only Filipino friends but friends of different nationalities. And it was amasing. Living, learning and making friends in a new country is a great experience of my life.

I am an exchange student in America right now. I came to America not really knowing what I wanted to do in the future and also trying to figure out who I actually am. Throughout my exchange year I had to go through a lot of ups and downs. Let's just say it wasn't really the ideal experience I had hoped for. Now you are probably asking yourself why I want to stay here for another year and even for college? During my year here in America I have grown up. I am much more mature and responsible than I was ten months ago when I was still living in Germany. Going through all these struggles with my first host family and my first two schools in Antioch, without my family or friends being here, actually helped me to mature. Even though sometimes being

When I first found out that I had been approved to intern abroad in Italy, I was very excited and couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends. But a few days later it hit me that I would be traveling to a country where I knew no one, all by myself. Not to mention the fact that I was already scared of planes. But after talking it out with my mom I realized that not everyone gets the chance to live in a different country and gain the experience of working abroad. I remembered when I first found out that I was accepted to Salisbury and the fear that I had in moving to a city on my own where I knew no one. I took the chance and moved in with three strangers who I now call my friends, taking the risk paid off big time and I knew that taking a bigger risk in a foreign country had the chance of paying off even more. Throughout my classes in Salisbury I slowly learned that taking chances in my projects and papers seemed to work out better than playing it safe. I also learned to be more independent in both life and in my classes. I found myself feeling more comfortable raising my hand and sharing my opinions, which is something I had rarely felt confident enough to do throughout high school and community college. I saw growth in my participation specifically in the three classes I took with professor Burton and three that I took with professor Moeder. My first semester in Salisbury I had Intro to Comm with Burton and I was still uncomfortable and a lacking confidence when it came to participation, but little by little I began to feel better discussing my opinions and knowing that in his classes I would not be judged for what I say. In Moeder’s classes, specifically Dramatic Writing, I learned that trying something that you never thought that you would be good at can turn out to be something you really
III. Students should study abroad due to its many benefits including personal growth, intercultural development, and education attainment.
International students face many different challenges when studying abroad. This is due to many factors. First they are living in a country very far away from their own. The country they are studying in also has a very different way of life than theirs. Also the laws in foreign country are much different than the laws in their own country. Due to that they face a lot of problems trying to adapt to this new culture. Me personally as an international student in the US studying in ASU have faced three particularly difficult challenges that I was able to overcome through time. In this essay I will explain how international students can overcome tough challenges and situations.

Have you ever thought about studying abroad? No, not just for a few months for your work-experience, but a whole year (or longer) as a transfer-student. Of course, you don’t make such a decision from one minute to the next. It needs to be thought over well. Going to college is a big change in your life because it usually means living on your own for the first time, but as a foreign student it is even a bigger change because you are on your own in another country. This is often the greatest concern for students to go abroad: to leave everything behind. They have trouble leaving their family and the familiar environment. They think this price is just too high. But if they only knew how rich they will be when they come back.
Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a college’s students career. For many colleges, having their students can mean an increase in tuition, higher application rates, and overall better reviews by their students. According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, by Scott Olsen, “The Wall Street Journal reported last month that several small colleges are requiring students to pay full tuition even if the programs cost less, setting caps on the amount of financial aid sent abroad, and limiting how many students can participate”(5). Also, Olsen tells us “In the 2003-2004 school year, 7,208 students from Indiana universities went on study-abroad programs, according to the most recent statistics available from the Institute
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language that goes to his heart.” ‒ Nelson Mandela. Since the 1960’s learning a second language has decreased by 30 percent in today’s society. People who wish to learn an additional language often do so to communicate with people who reside in different countries. With an increase in today’s globalization, it is forcing companies throughout the world to break the language barrier. However, with the advancement of technology, numerous citizens find it unnecessary to learn another language, as a translation is at the tip of their fingers. The methods of learning a foreign language can differentiate between people. Nevertheless it has been
I always want to be an international student because I believe that learning in different surroundings will offer me a chance to explore the world. In order to become one, I have been preparing myself for this upcoming challenge. Long years of studying and paying most of my attention to school work made me wonder whether it is worthwhile to spend so much time on textbooks and became curious about what it is like to study in another country. In 2011, I seized the opportunity provided by my senior high school and became an exchange student in the U.S. . I didn’t fit in perfectly in the beginning, but throughout my exchange year, I had learned to adapt m...
