Throughout the early twentieth century, Blacks designers influenced the fashion industry in America, having, “a system and structure for maintaining their particular type of fashion.” African American fashion was very popular and caught the attention from the media. “This New York Fashion Week, models and editors are stylishly dressed but fashion designers are naked. Legally naked, that is” (Scafidi, Rodriguez, NYT). Fashion design is a form of art. Currently there is no set of copyright laws to protect fashion design. Consequently, especially within the past 10 years, fashion designers have struggled to protect their form of art. Americans concerned with the future of the fashion industry started to stand up for the industry and propose acts to protect it, yet none have been successful enough to pass. Based on information from The Council of Fashion Designer Association, most fashion designers would agree, this needs to change. Fashion designers should have fashion design copyright

The fashion industry provides both creative and business-oriented positions, making the fashion world interesting. Fashion moves in cycles, and many, especially those who work within the industry, describe fashion as very fickle. When it comes to people one might work within the industry, fashion attracts eccentric, creative people who are often very difficult to work for and with, and those within the fashion world can be very brutal and backstabbing. Starting salaries can be very low, workspaces can be crowded and noisy, and schedules can be unpredictable and hours are often long and labor-intensive. Though, there is potential for large salaries, travel, and fun, there is can also be quiet, solitude, and security, largely depending on where one works in the field. If one works in the fashion ind...
Fashion is a form people use as a way for self expression. For me, fashion dictates how a person sense of style is; some may be bold and loud or simple and calm in which it also gives others an outlook on how their character may be. Although fashion is a way to express ones’ sense of style it does not tells us who the person is personally. Fashion in the society of the 1900s has changed female gender roles then and now by the way their roles changed during the time.

I discovered qualities and talents in myself that I never knew about. I received a newfound confidence which I carried with me through the rest of the ...
From the moment I starting my educational path I knew four years wouldn’t be enough to fill me with all the dimensions of the fashion industry. This led me to make my decision to apply for the M.S. Global Fashion Enterprise degree. When asked how this program at Philadelphia University would benefit me, I will begin by giving a background on my previous education. I started my undergraduate degree at Buffalo State College in upstate New York pursuing a Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising. After being in the program for a year I was confident in knowing I needed a change. My journey changed drastically when I moved down to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I transferred to the Art Institute under the same major. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising come this June 2014. My experience at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has uncovered my love of education and research.
I enjoy making sketches of clothing that one day will hopefully be available in stores all over. Fashion designing in my opinion is a way to express the unique side of your creativity, also fashion designing is a career that I believe I can achieve in so highly if I stay focused and continue to putting forth effort in my creations. I could see interior designing as a possible career in my future because it’s somewhat similar to fashion designing just in the designing area. Both involve having a since of style and an eye for color, texture and pattern coordination.
People’s opinions differ greatly on what vintage fashion is. Rhodes (2008, pg. 6-8) suggests that “vintage fashion is a magical harvest of wearable art. It’s a wine from past seasons that must be dipped into, sampled and tasted.” Taylor (2013, p. 8) also suggests that vintage is a “garment that possesses age, beauty and great design.” I agree with these statements and believe that there is a story behind every vintage garment. Some say that vintage is another word for old fashioned, Rhodes suggests that vintage clothes have had an adventure and have survived the toil of time (2013).
