1. When an organization adds changes in the workforce, I believe the changes can be an advantage and a disadvantage based on personal experience. I currently work at Price Chopper in the Deli department, and we have had a certain amount of changes that have helped us and made things a little difficult. One of the changes we had was adding a bigger display case for our hot food. This allows us to put out more options for the customer to purchase; however, it can be confusing to those who have not been to our department and it will take time to adjust, as well as it increases the amount of food we have to throw out each night. 2. If I were to conduct a job analysis in a company with no job description, I would follow two steps to assist in the creation of a description. My first task would be to ask the supervisor what the job title is, the purpose of the position, and who the employee will be reporting to, as mentioned in the job description handout. The job that I currently work at offers work-life balance like Best Buy; such as my boss letting me work only Friday and Saturday to help balance out with my fifteen-credit school schedule, as well letting me have Sunday off for church and being with my family. We are also goal driven, as being able to sell a lot of product during sales and increasing in the years has pleased our employer, and she rewards us for our efforts with scratch offs of a store product for free. Having a surplus of employees like Best Buy would not work in our situation because that would lead our employers to pay the surplus in employees and could result in an increase in product price and/or decrease in other workers’ salaries to compensate, and we have enough employees in our department to fill in the days when someone is gone. Change affects more than just a program or a process within an organization, change affects employees, collecting data on employee’s readiness and willingness to accept a change will help leaders know if the organization is socially ready for change (Cole, Harris, and Bernerth, 2006). A change might be positive for an organization but if the employees who will be affect by the change are lost in the process then it could create a greater issue than not making the change. Leadership needs to communicate and inspire the employees to be positive toward the change, seeking to enhance their job satisfaction not make changes that will increase their desire to leave. This data is best collected early in the change initiative allowing leadership to properly cast the vision while addressing concerns. This requires leadership to create platforms for employees to engage in the change initiative freely (Ford, 2006). Employee attitudes can be measured through these dialogues providing leadership with necessary measureable data (Hughes, 2007).
In drawing up a job description the personnel department at Sainsbury's has a number of alternatives. These are: * The line manager can draw up a description of what the job entails * The existing job holder can do it * The Human Resources Manager can interview the job holder and the line manager to find out what the job involves. I It is better to combine these approaches. The list of tasks and the relative importance of each one, is vitally important for a number of reasons: * In carrying out appraisals of employees as the manager cannot appraise employees if the employees do not know what the job involves * When analysing the job for training needs the manager must be able to see what tasks a job involves so that s/he can determine ehat training may be required When Sainsbury's draft the job description, the main features are: * The job title * The location of the job * A brief outline of what Sainsbury's does * The main purpose of the job * A detailed list of the main tasks required in the job * Pay and other benefits * Promotion aspects Sainsbury's expect employees to more flexible and to do a wider range of work.

As part of going over them and what they mean, we have been looking at future occupations and the schooling that goes along with them. We are being told to look more into our futures and to start thinking about what colleges or universities we want to attend and what we might major in. The result of this process is a job description “that includes the job title, a summary of the job tasks, a list of the essential tasks and responsibilities, and a description of the work context “(Burke, 2008). A job description consists of the knowledge, skills, and aptitudes necessary to do the job. A job evaluation is the process of adjudicating the comparative value of a job within a company (Burke, 2008).
Imbalanced, our lives are imbalanced. We do not have time to climb the ladder of success if we want to be home to raise our children. We do not have time to cook a healthy meal from scratch. We grab a box of Hamburger Helper, a can of peas, and a bag of rolls and we have dinner. Exercise consists of walking between the car and the door and maybe a little wrestling around with the kids before bed. At work productivity is counted by how many hours you spend doing your job instead of the results that our produced in that time. Mindsets like this hold us back. Flexibility for the employee is the future to balancing our lives.

By creating a questionnaire that relates to the daily tasks for the position will narrow done the selection process into a smaller portion. The information given from the Job Analysis is also used to create a Job Description and Job Specification. “Job description identifies the tasks, duties, and responsibilities. The “job specification list the KSAOCs that individuals need to posses to perform a job successfully”(Pynes, 2013). After an individual is hired we must train that individual with the proper format in order for them to understand the concept of work. In this process I will develop a training program that includes all the organizations policies, procedures and daily tasks.

In conclusion, a critical issue that employees face is balancing their time effectively between their work duties and their family-related responsibilities. There are a number of negative effects associated with work-life imbalance and it is up to the employer to provide employees with the resources necessary to enhance their overall quality of life. With proper and legal implementation of a work-life program, organizations will be able to reap the benefits of increased employee commitment, reduced turnover, and increased productivity. In turn, the employee will benefit from an overall sense of meaningfulness in their life, not to mention increased job satisfaction and motivation. Lastly, it is vital that organizations recognize the need for an employee to maintain a work-life balance, and to take the steps necessary in providing them with various options.
One of the benefits of achieving an acceptable work-life balance for an employer is a reduction in staff turnover, which means that less staff is likely to move onto another company; this creates a stable workforce in which the employees are happy and office runs more efficiently. In addition, this leads to lower recruitment and training costs as the staff are likely to already be qualified and only advancements on training would need to be provided. Whereas with new staff, they would need to be fully trained which can be costly as well as the cost in which to find the new staff (recruitment costs) using recruitment agencies. Another advantage to having an acceptable work-life balance, is that the current staff is likely to stay which increases the retention of staff; meaning the staff are likely to be more committed and loyal to the employer.
