1. Community service organizations to help build better communities through service, and citizenship. My mother is a member of an organization that provides community service in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The name of this organization is the National Council of Women (NCW). I have been a member of in NCW for one year. Although, I was not in charge of any particular special community service project, I did participate in several projects in the community outreach fair. This fair was designed to educate, provide the community with resources, and to educate the community on social and health issues. This fair took place at a community center in a low income area of Miami Florida, in Overtown. Back in the late 1940s and early 1950s Overtown was a thriving area where African-Americans owned property, businesses, hotels, restaurants, grocery stores and clothing stores. It was the only place in South Florida where African-Americans could shop, be entertained, and could find hotels/lodging for out-of-town guests in minority friendly hotels. In the 80s, post segregation Overtown quickly became known for high crime, and extreme poverty. Many of the families who originally owned property in Overtown, sold that property to companies seeking to re-gentrify the downtown area of Miami. When those African-American families moved out, the drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, and other …show more content…
I realize that as a healthcare professional, I am considered a leader and an educator to everyone who needs medical help, information and advice. I'm excited to take on that role. It was life-changing to help those who may not have otherwise sought help, I was able to provide simple services that could potentially be life-saving. As a nurse/doctor I will continue to maintain an active role in this organization. I believe in our mission. As a doctor, I will also support legislature to provide good healthcare options to all
Levin, R., McKean, L., & Shapiro, S. K. (2004). Community organizing in three south side Chicago communities: Leadership, activities, and prospects. Chicago, IL: The Center for Impact Research.
On one visit throughout my community and common environment I was able to observe three separate groups. Within this paper I will describe each group individually provide detailed information regarding body language of the group individually.
Naturalistic observation is a method used when you collect data without the manipulation of the environment in which you are in. You study the behavior of an organism or organisms in there natural setting. This is the method I used while observing an interracial couple at Flip Burger Boutique at eight o’clock on a Sunday night. The couple walks side by side as they are taken to their booth and sit across from each other. When they were seated things seemed tense and awkward; there was no conversation going on. Both kept their hand sin their laps and do not even touch their drink glasses. The female touches her hands frequently even when ordering her meal.
I hope to impact this professional with my knowledge and expertise. I am now in school again to further my knowledge of this profession. It may seem old for some. However, for me learning has no age and boundaries as I continued to gain more knowledge and perhaps someday I can be a mentor for my peers. I hope to someday work In Risk management where I can continue to fight and argue the rights of my patients and peers whom all deserve a sense of dignity and self-worth. My contribution to this profession includes providing and promoting care with a holistic approach that is inclusive of the mind, body, spiritual belief practices because the patients I see as being more than just another patient in need of my care. The patients are like you and I and perhaps wants the same as I want for them. I’m sure with my great sense of enthusiasm that I may accomplish something here because my day will never end until I make an unmistakable stamp on a profession I always wanted to practice since that little girl whose heart was touched by the many caring professionals that provided care to my mom. Sound like I’m on a mission that indeed I
I decided to observe five different groups for this paper. I chose rednecks, burnouts, two different groups of athletes, and musicians. These observations were mostly made at school in the hallways, classrooms, lunch, or in the parking lot. All of the groups were easily observable, they just had to be done at different times throughout the day. The rednecks for example were more easily observable in the school parking lot, whereas the athletes were more observable in the hallways.
What is the mission of your organization? To provide a high standard and quality of care to the patients that we treat.

The first site I visited was at lounge/bar in New York City. My sister came down from Connecticut, and she wanted to hang out before she had to go to her medical mission trip to Dominican Republic. We decided to go this lounge/bar place in New York City. The atmosphere was inviting and energetic. There were people, both male and female, dancing on the dance floor and there were others either relaxing by the lounge area or at the bar. As I was looking around the environment and enjoying the aurora around me, I notice two groups of women. The first group had four women siting at the lounge area and they all look as though they were around their mid thirties to late thirties and looked very professional. The second group was group of five women
I want be generous with my time, knowledge, energy and compassion. I am looking forward to the opportunities to not only improve the quality of peoples’ health care, but to also get to know the people I am helping and form relationships with them. I know how blessed I am and want to give back to those less fortunate than me. I can give my life meaning by helping to make this world a better place one patient at a time.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new, its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and support millions of young people all over the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well as adults as volunteers. Within this theme many codes such as networking, volunteering, community liaison, speaking up on their behalf, apprentice-master type relationship as well as village concept and business involved were listed. Examples of networking were given often with group #20. One example described previously how the community would come together and share their food resources. “we use to share with one another because that was all we had if you had the greens, I had the hamhock we shared that with the community and we made sure that the whole community was taken care of.” Group #20 discussed the positive impact that sharing resources had on their personal lives.
