Learning in small groups can be defined as a group of learners that have three common characteristics: active participation by the group, delegation of specific tasks, and the ability to reflect on tasks, after completion. In a group environment, the idea of an individual working on their is replaced by teamwork in the public school system. Many times working in a group can be a challenge, due to the fact, that there are different personalities involved. However, the group can also provide many benefits to each student, as well as, the group as a whole. Students may need guidance and practice to reap the benefits of working in a group. Normally in a group, the work will be divided into the number of members in the group and may be arranged to each of the members to receive the part where they are more confident and have more knowledge of it. In addition, if a member is confused with their work, he can receive assistance from his teammates rather than just being alone and figure it himself independently. However, I believe sometimes been in a group can have its cons. A common pitfall associated with working as a group is disagreement about the way something is being done, a particular issue, or an opinion. Sometimes one member might have his own beliefs and want to perform a task in their way and conflict can arise from this. Once conflict arises, the members can discuss their own opinions and might arrive to a solution, but this can cause a member to not show their full potential because something was not done the way they wanted. If you are studying together it is very helpful, and you will get a lot done. Also, with a group mind, if you are doing a project for work/school there is always somebody there to look over your work, just in case you mess up. Then, if you are doing a project with some a lot of calculations, having a group is very helpful. In case you mess up or just do not see a mistake you made on a calculation and correct it, so you do not have to get some points taken off for getting it wrong. There are pros and cons to this subject matter, but I think the cons outweigh the pros.

People are more likely to follow through on decisions made by groups that they are connected to. Also, more monumental decisions can be made in groups, because one member will not be singled out for blame, making the entire group responsible.
Tannen explains how the small group technic worked for her however she doesn’t have any evidence besides her own to prove it. There are many possibilities why it does work for her such as her teaching style, students willing to work with others, and subject that is being taught. She states that “Everyone in the class found the small groups interesting, and no one indicated he or she would have preferred that the class not break into groups.”(pg. 319) I do agree that small groups would be interesting, however who would go up to their professor and say I don’t like the small groups? The downsides of small groups from my experience is only one or two people actually do the work while the other’s talk about something else or people get off topic very easily which causes them not to do the work at all. Another downside is people possibly don’t understand what they are supposed to do so the group can’t talk about it or do their work because they people may not want to talk to their professor because then they will know that weren’t paying attention when they were given

Being a wolf does not mean you only work alone. It just means you do not fear working alone. I disagree with teachers assigning group projects and group assignments. First, some students do all the hard work for everyone in the group. Second, working in groups can cause an abundance of arguing and fighting between class mates.
Effective group diversity is not easy to obtain, problems arise often due to differences in personalities, work ethics, and ideas (Griffith & Dunham, 2015). Finding a balance within the group is crucial for a group’s collaborative work and collective goals. In order to successfully complete their tasks, members have to look past their differences and find a way to work with one another cohesively to complete those set task. Not all diversity is bad, there may be challenges, but there are benefits as well.
My goal as a teacher is to improve my student’s education and help them grow knowledgably. I like to see students at different levels develop with each other and learn. I want to challenge the students and watch them grow to their highest level of education. Therefore, having the students in groups is the best educational strategy I like to use a lot. I want my students to have freedom with whatever creativity they want, and to allow them to express themselves at any time. With this freedom students will be able to experiment with likes and dislikes and be able to figure their weaknesses and strengths. Education is for everyone and it’s a right by low for all; teachers, on the other hand, should do their jobs very honestly and effectively.
