Introduction I propose that Broken Arrow High School should have longer lunches. Currently the lunches are 40 minutes long ("Broken Arrow High School Handbook"), but for students that go to Tulsa Tech they get like 10 minutes or sometimes don’t even get a lunch. Having a longer lunch will result in being more focus and concentrated in class. It will also result in less food being wasted. As a Senior in Broken Arrow High School and a student in Tulsa Tech lunch is cut very short not only for the drive but also for the line we have to wait to get our food and the time to actually eat the food. Broken Arrow High School should at least have 50 minutes of lunch because it's our time to just to relax and to do some homework etc. so that when we get back to class we can be more concentrate …show more content…
They said that the lines of getting lunch were too long because of how many people go to this school. At Union high school they currently receive 30 minutes of lunch ("Union Handbook"). 10 out of 10 students I interviewed said they would like at least 50 minutes of lunch.
I followed those question with if they were willing to stay at school longer for longer lunches? 4 out 10 said yes. Most of the teachers at school I interviewed thought the time we had for lunch was enough.
Interpretation of Results and Findings With the data and results that I received, the data I got from the Tulsa Tech students and students that stay at school shows that all of them agree with me. The results I received are important because it shows that the students would like longer lunches, but it does not seem possible because we wouldn’t want to stay at school longer. The results I got from all the students validate my reasoning. 40 minutes of lunch sounds long but when it comes with standing in a line or driving to go get lunch it doesn't work out
Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
On the other hand, having open campus lunch would force students to learn time management and teach them what future responsibilities for college and employment. Students would have thirty minutes to get where they would choose to eat and back while remaining punctual. Some students would receive tardies, some would be early, some would be right on time, and some would not return. Since high school prepares students for college, having open campus lunch would be a great thing for students to get
Do you ever think you are rushed during lunch and not able to have a good lunch experience? I do! Here at my school we get 18 minutes of lunch (I timed it myself). Sometimes we're late to lunch and we have to clean up early, so then theres not much time to finish our lunch. Compare our lunch of 20 minutes time to the1hour - 2 hours lunch that the french children get. Our lunch time is not a lot of time.
Every student in all grades were able to leave during the time a scheduled class did not occupy. (Saslow, Linda. “Schools split on “open campus” NYtimes.com). Open campus lunch is the allowance of high school students to leave off the premises to a local restaurant for the duration of lunch. School districts in America have opposed open campus lunch benefits due to common knowledge and concern for potential student endangerment. A reason why schools should change educational environment would be to accommodate what students’ need to create comfortable working conditions. Old school methods included the repetitive process of helping students through daily material every day of the week with one break. Off campus school lunch was an unknown factor to high schools back
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
We should not have longer school lunches. Longer school lunches has a great impact on everyone in school, it makes this issue worse. Students need what is best for them, which they already have. Short school lunches helps improve learning skills and lets students comprehend better. Our lunches are good as they are right now. We should not allow students to leave during school lunch.
More than 30 million children trundle through school cafeteria lines and 24% of children leave their food untouched. If 24% of students leave their food untouched, this is a waste of perfectly good food. They leave their food untouched because they just don’t like the food that they are given, but they are forced to get it because they have no other choice other than that specific type of food. If students could choose the type of food that they want by leaving campus and going to their favorite restaurant, it could benefit students tremendously. Although having an open campus at lunch may lead to skipping school or other delinquent activities, high schools should have an open campus because it benefits students by it giving students a way
Lunch is one of the most important meals that nobody should skip. This meal re-energizes your body and fuels you up. Throughout the United States millions of students eat their lunch at school everyday. Besides eating , lunch serves as a break from the routine of attending classes for students. Modern schools have accepted the idea of an open campus lunch whereas some schools have not. Freedom and responsibility play a huge role in the lives of high school students. Concerning this subject , students should not have that privilege because it opens an area of danger such as car accidents, tardiness.
The public schools that provide food to all students are not the most delicious dishes ever. Throughout my high school experience I have tasted several foods which are not very delightful, Some cause stomach ache and headache. Therefore, I find myself not eating that food and not considering as my go to meals. Numerous of my fellow classmates would agree with me, and they provide themselves with their own lunches. It would be very generous if the school put some money into the food, we are consuming.
Having to eat school lunch is not the best. Eating school lunch is like eating in prison. People may think that eating off school campus is a bad idea but it's not. Although some students will come back late for school, they will have enough energy to get through the day. If they are to come back late then only the students that come back on time should be allowed to leave the second time.
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
On April 18 and 19 Principal Mario Acosta explored the idea of cutting down to only two lunches instead of three by asking everyone who usually has B lunch to all go to A lunch. Having three lunches causes many problems for students and teachers so by eliminating a lunch altogether would solve them. Having two lunches next year is the way to go.
Many children depend on school meals at a daily rate. Meaning, children get about “half of their daily calories from school meals” (Park, Time). For this reason, it is considered for school cafeterias to provide healthier meal options. School meals are processed foods in which can contain high fructose corn syrup or large amounts of sugar. There is no telling what school meals contain because their is no label stating what they contain.
Do you ever feel like the environment of your lunch stresses you out? I think lunches at Wellington-Napoleon High School need to start earlier, last longer, and have better quality to give students more time to digest food, have more time for socialization, and be more relaxed.
However once you limit a students time, once they leave, find a place to eat, and actually eat they won't have time left during lunch to "goof off". Secondly, leaving school for lunch would help students by giving them a variety of choices. Eating school lunch often limits your food options. These foods the school serves could be non-appealing, unhealthy, or you may just dislike the food.
