On April 18 and 19 Principal Mario Acosta explored the idea of cutting down to only two lunches instead of three by asking everyone who usually has B lunch to all go to A lunch. Having three lunches causes many problems for students and teachers so by eliminating a lunch altogether would solve them. Having two lunches next year is the way to go. With having three lunches causes some students to have a class interrupted by B lunch. Students with B lunch go to their seventh block first and halfway the students stop for lunch, and once they return from lunch the finish up their class. Many teachers don’t like having B lunch as it interrupts their class. Teachers have to stop their lesson plans for lunch, and it isn’t always convenient. For some
Janet Poppendieck is a professor of sociology at Hunter College in New York, and additionally she is the author of several books including her most recent Free for All: Fixing School Food in America. This book centers on America’s recent interest in whether or not our school lunches are healthy. This issue has been put into the spotlight recently through shows such as Jamie Oliver’s School Food Revolution and in the news because recent changes in the Nation School Lunch Program’s dietary guidelines. Poppendieck’s book looks at the in depth reasons into why school lunches have turned into what they are today, what challenges need to be faced in order to fix school lunches, and ultimately how our the system should be fixed. She accomplishes this by interviewing her current college students about their previous school lunch experiences, working in a school cafeteria, interviewing current school employees, and looking at the history and policies of the National School Lunch Program.
Schools are spending too much money with this program that could be spent on other benefits for schools. Rather than using the money to get students new technology or property it 's wasted on a lunch program that students do not enjoy nor want to purchase. In the Article, “School Lunch Food is Not Fresh, Students Say” Journalist Audrey Levine interviews high school students about they feel about their school lunches. “It’s way too expensive now, but I’m still buying,” said senior Stephanie Huang. “And I don’t think more people are bringing lunch because
For the majority of high school students having the option to go home for lunch or to go somewhere to eat would be the ultimate dream. High school students do not think about the dangers and worry that open campus lunch would cause for staff and parents. They do not think about the small sum of students who would spend that time doing drugs or making messes at local businesses. There would also be an amount of students who would not return, or they may be late returning to school due to traffic at fast food places. Faculty would also have the fret of an increase of car accidents caused from the limited time students would have to go wherever and get back before their next class. On the other hand, students would learn responsibilities and time management. Parents would be forced to give their children money to eat out. Along with the money on their school lunch accounts, or they would be apart of the free lunch school program. Schools cannot have open campus lunches
Every student in all grades were able to leave during the time a scheduled class did not occupy. (Saslow, Linda. “Schools split on “open campus” NYtimes.com). Open campus lunch is the allowance of high school students to leave off the premises to a local restaurant for the duration of lunch. School districts in America have opposed open campus lunch benefits due to common knowledge and concern for potential student endangerment. A reason why schools should change educational environment would be to accommodate what students’ need to create comfortable working conditions. Old school methods included the repetitive process of helping students through daily material every day of the week with one break. Off campus school lunch was an unknown factor to high schools back
This year the administration has split the lunch schedules by what teacher you have instead of grade level. With this being said this splits up half of the grade levels for ‘A lunch’ and ‘B lunch’ which is where the problem begins.
Limited, restricted, and restrained. Are you having enough time to fully demolish your food in lunch? Do you have a problem enjoying lunch knowing you have to rush? Longer lunches for everyone will be extremely beneficial in many ways. I’m assuming that most of you will argue that expanding lunch isn't harmful. You'll probably agree that longer many periods expose pros. However they're cons included such as a decrease in time to get for filled with education. Although that's horrible students need a break some times. Administrators need to extend lunch to one hour.
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where

First, longer school lunches will cause classes to be shorter, resulting in less learning time. The students will not gain information quickly, and would have less time to ask teachers questions. Teachers would have to stay at school longer. Teachers already have to stay after school to grade assignments, and bring work home as well. They will have to plan lessons and grade. If they do this, they will be extremely tired and will not be attentive in class. If they are tired, they could fall asleep in class, and might not teach the best that they can. Students already having less learning time will get terrible teaching and information, and then they will not be smart. Non-intelligent students might not get into university or college, and would have to work without a degree, earning little money. Longer lunches will have an impact on teachers, and students' futures. The school district should not agree to have longer lunches, as it will be awful for students.
With the implementation of the “Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act” schools are not serving as many lunches and participation is decreasing. According to the Government Accountability Office (GOA), “Nationwide, student participation declined by 1.2 million students(or 3.7 percent) from school year 2010-2011 through school year 2012-2013, after having increased steadily for many years”(sec. 1). The school lunches became more distasteful and bland; the combinations of foods did not make sense, and the portion sizes decreased significantly. In order to support the cafeteria
Assurance for students and others concerned regarding the breakfast program mostly relies around the time consuming aspect of the program. An article in American Teacher stated that in many schools teachers expressed concerns about the logistics of the program, inc...
For this reason, it is financially damaging every time a student misses a meal swipe they can’t afford losing. They have enough trouble paying for college as it is so students have to get the most out of every meal swipe. At Ball State, there are 4 types of meal plans; You can choose a plan that offers three meals every day (21 meal plan), or you can select a plan that provides only 10, 14, or 18 meals a week with varying amounts of Dining Plus dollars. Students are also given a certain amount of money for each meal, and specific times they are able to use their meal swipe. From 7am-10:30am (breakfast), students can use up to $4.65, from 10:30am to 4:30pm (lunch), students can use $8.20, and from 4:30pm-12:am (dinner), students are given $8.20. Each meal that is not used is a waste of money for that student. For example, if I had classes back to back from 10:00 to 5:00, I wouldn’t be able to eat lunch and the money from my lunch meal swipe wouldn’t roll over to my dinner meal swipe. This system is unfair for students with busy
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
The cafeteria is wasting a lot of food due to the fact that it doesn't look appealing. Neither the students nor the staff is not eating the food presented. Other students and I are looking for a good lunch. Serving only one meat as an entree is not acceptable. More than one entree would benefit everyone. Another problem is that the combination of entrees and vegetables do not combine together.
You will also save money by not spending money on the lunch because you will not need as big a lunch because you won’t need as much energy. The school will be happy and not have to pay as much to the teachers hours. Teachers also could have more time to be more active .If they like to bike, jog, or hike rather than just sitting there all
