Students Should Not Have Closed Campus Lunches

Lunch is one of the most important meals that nobody should skip. This meal re-energizes your body and fuels you up. Throughout the United States millions of students eat their lunch at school everyday. Besides eating , lunch serves as a break from the routine of attending classes for students. Modern schools have accepted the idea of an open campus lunch whereas some schools have not. Freedom and responsibility play a huge role in the lives of high school students. Concerning this subject , students should not have that privilege because it opens an area of danger such as car accidents, tardiness.
When parents send their children to school, they expect them to be protected but if students leave campus , they will not be under the protection of school anymore. Since students have a predefined amount of time , they would rush and the rate of car crashes could increase during the lunch hour. In a recent article on teen driving it was stated , “ Car crashes are the number one cause of death among teens in the United States. Of course kids like diversity and they want more food choices , but an open campus lunch has its own disadvantages. Imagine having an open campus during lunch hour and about forty minutes to go grab lunch , the first thought that comes to mind would most likely be a fast food restaurant such as McDonald's because it takes little time to get ready and it is much cheaper. Allison Aubrey writes that, “ Every day about 1 in 3 kids in the U.S. is chowing down on fries , burgers , pizza , or other fast-food favorites and despite all the promptings to eat more healthfully, this rate of fast-food consumption has not budged in the past 15 years . ” (Aubrey). This quote shows that kids are obsessed with fast food and an open campus lunch would increase this rate and it would hurt their wallets as well
