The public schools that provide food to all students are not the most delicious dishes ever. Throughout my high school experience I have tasted several foods which are not very delightful, Some cause stomach ache and headache. Therefore, I find myself not eating that food and not considering as my go to meals. Numerous of my fellow classmates would agree with me, and they provide themselves with their own lunches. It would be very generous if the school put some money into the food, we are consuming. Various of the foods are what gives you energy to still be wide awake in class and be very productive. My concern is if other bad foods out there causes heart disease, diabetes and cancer, which are not good for you depending on what you eat, but if the school lunches are worse or the same as others and causes people to be sicker, than it should be solved. In addition to the article “No Lunch Left Behind” by Alice Waters and Katrina Heron it concludes that teens from 2-19 consume high amounts of sugar sweets a year. The money that the school does not use on spending in our school lunches should be used more wisely. The right thing, the school should do is perform a better high quality gymnastic class for all students to stay active and be precisely more healthy. I believe staying active for half an hour isn’t enough, maybe running three times a week for, with a minimum of one hour should be fair enough. Now my main goal for all student is to eat healthy and eat as much vegetables, fruits, and enough water as close to 6-8 bottles of water. Walk onto any college campus or any other type of school campus and you will see many students that are either obese or close to being obese. Many cafeterias serve healthy foods and non-healthy foods. Schools came up with the rule that you can’t check out lunch without a fruit or vegetable. The only problem is that most students end up taking them and end up wasting them by throwing them away. Considering I am a college student, I understand the challenge of eating unhealthy when I am trying to eat healthier. Overall, I know that if I don 't start eating healthier soon I could end up gaining a lot of weight and become obese. Schools are meant to give our children a healthy and nurturing environment, and yet so much of the lunches in schools are fattening; does this stop schools from achieving the aforementioned goal? Childhood obesity in the United Sates continues to be a growing problem despite so any new programs to help combat it, and new research is showing how schools may be playing a large role in childhood obesity. School lunches are showing to be the problem, they encourage poor nutrition in our nation’s students, and simple reform is proving to not be enough to stop the rise in obesity rates.
We all remember that day when President Obama took office, and our school lunches changed forever. First Lady Michelle Obama, felt that too many American kids are overweight, so she thought she needed to make our school lunches healthier, with more fruits and vegetables. One of the major changes she made was how many calories the school cooks were able to give the kids. The new requirements are as follows: up to 650 for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, 700 for sixth through eighth graders and 850 for high scholars. These numbers are consistent with the Mayo Clinic’s recommendations ( Kuczynski-Brown). The main goal of cutting calories and taking away junk food, was to insure that kids are getting served a healthy lunch. At each lunch, schools must still provide a cup of fruit, a cup of vegetables, two servings of grains, two ounces of dairy, and a cup of fluid milk, so that students can get their needed vitamins and nutrients (Anonymous) . They are also wanting more local farmers to be involved, and give more of the food they grow to the school. At the high school I went to, we built a green house, and planted a garden to give us some local grown food. It was part of our Ag Science class. In other words, the food is not delicious and there are not many choices. Also, when children don’t get proper nutrition, they have trouble focusing on school. Most students do not buy lunch because they feel it is unappealing and do not like the food served. Many students go to other kids and ask for food. In addition, many students do not eat breakfast, so they rely on lunch to fuel them for the day.

School lunches have created a chronic problem in a school setting, and since it hasn't been fixed, 6-11 year olds have had a 17% increased chance of becoming obese (Centers for Disease control and Prevention). Most school districts don't even bother changing the food restrictions just so they can please their students. Unhealthy school lunches are a huge problem among children in the United States, it can cause obesity, stress, and many other problems.

It is also a good thing to require because school gym is the only exercise most teens and children get throughout the day. It helps cut the growing rate of diabetes and obesity. Not only are you constantly moving and getting tons of exercise, but sports teams normally offer a good healthy snack after games such as peanut butter crackers and juice boxes or nutrition bars and bottled water. It all makes a huge difference in the development of children and teens. If we take these small steps to change, we can easily redirect the lives of children and teens health. The students should go home and show their parents what good eating habits they have learned in school; however, students cannot go out by themselves and buy their own groceries, the parents have to do their part and help the child get the necessities he/she needs to live a healthy
...festyle habits. Another solution would be to offer more healthful lunch foods. Healthy living doesn’t only involve exercising, it also involves eating right. Finally, schools should give students the option to take a daily P.E. class all school year round. That way, students who feel the need to exercise can take the class and those who would rather take another class can do so. We can also work together to make P.E. more effective by spending more time on exercises rather than certain sports and activities that require little activity. By putting these ideas into play, it will give unhealthy students the opportunity to turn their lives around in a positive way that won’t majorly impact the school budget, negatively impact student’s health and emotions, or cause classes to be cut. Let’s work together to end this serious problem in a way that will benefit everybody.
Buddha once said, "To keep the body in good health is a duty...otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear." Students need a healthy body which leads to having a healthy mind. Once a child is in good health, they will feel better about themself which will make them succeed in everything else they do. A huge debate that is going on all throughout the United States is this- Should schools provide one healthy meal for students to help end the fight of childhood obesity? Schools are beginning to pick up the slack for the lost direction that children should receive at home. Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic all through our country. Both of these compelling stories have many prominent similarities and differences. Poe has developed unstable narrators in both “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Cask of Amontillado,” but the circumstances in each story are distinctively different. While an old man’s hideous eye drives the narrator to madness in “The Tell-Tale Heart,” the thirst for revenge influences the narrator in “The Cask of Amontillado.” Although both stories contain a disturbed narrator, the narrator’s personality, the narrator’s motive for murder, and how the narrator displays their guilt is drastically different.
Active teens require 2000-5000 calories a day(Kids Health). The healthy choices may be available but, are kids really eating the food? According to the statistics on waste, the answer to this question is”No”. The Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act originated in 2010, new updated guidelines implemented in 2012 include the following: increase amounts of fruits and vegetables, calorie limits according to age group, reduction in fats and sodium. All schools were required to implement the changes in 2012-2013. One of the changes implemented because of the enormous amount of waste was “offer versus serve”. In the updated guidelines, this was another requirement. The term “offer versus serve” was coined to reduce waste: students can decline some of the food offered that they do not intend to eat (USDA Food and Nutrition Service n.p.). This confirms the fact that students were not eating the healthy choices that were being served. As a result the calorie intake for a student was now a health risk since they are not getting enough to support their growing bodies. The system that would be put into place is in a points system table and what food you get is so many points of healthiness. The incentive to eat healthier because people are not going to change for no reason is during TA time on fridays the students get to leave to lunch earlier than our usual fifteen minutes to eat which is really short. This is possible because during TA time on friday we usually do not do anything besides sitting and talking. Educational institutions have the potential to, first and foremost, educate and assist the young people of today with making the positive, healthful choices necessary to maintain good health. Schools have a responsibility to provide healthy food choices and not just the cheapest ones (which usually happens to be the unhealthy kind). The majority of schools have contracts with unhealthy food suppliers. Most of the budget usually goes to funding sports. What the school boards do not realize is that eating healthy is a crucial part of staying fit, and if the school districts were to pick healthier food suppliers they would see that local food suppliers would gladly provide them these choices, as it is good business for them.
