WHY TUTORS ARE IMPORTANT.
Tutoring is a crucial aspect of the learning process. Unlike a general classroom setting, a tutor provides personalized experience that is adjusted to a student’s need. Tutors can help in several ways; by making difficult concepts easy and interesting to understand; and by providing insightful analysis for a student looking for enlightenment and new perspective in a particular subject area.
Students have different learning and assimilation abilities. A tutor can aid in a student’s learning by providing relevant and student-specific aid which would accelerate learning, reduce frustration and enable the student to be abreast with topics covered in the classroom. Overall, this would help the student have reduced
stress level and get higher grades In addition, a tutor can help a student in other ways. For example, for a student lacking proper study skills, a tutor can develop an appropriate study strategy. Also, for a student lacking academic discipline e.g. forgetting to do assignments. A tutor can assist in making a to-do list to serve as a reminder for tasks to be completed, and also help in developing proper time management schedule for the student. Furthermore, A tutor can also assist a student with special needs like learning strategies to perform better in a school quiz and overcome obstacles in comprehension. Finally, a tutor can also help students that are considered gifted or talented. The tutor can guide a gifted student to study subjects in their area of ability on a deeper level. For example, a science student that does very well in mathematics at school may work with a tutor to pursue calculation practices beyond what is being taught in his or her current grade level, thus enabling the student achieve his or her highest potential and make great impact in their field. In conclusion, tutors are the pillars of the learning process and their role cannot be over emphasized.

I am writing to you today to persuade you to become a peer tutor during your senior year of high school. Peer tutoring certainly is something unique to do. So many of my friends told me to be a service learner but I chose to be a peer tutor and I do not regret this decision. While in service learning you are just delivering stuff around the building, in peer tutoring you actually get the chance to help fellow underclassmen. I think this is one of the best ways to give back to your community. Another reason why I enjoy being a peer tutor is that I get to choose which class I want to tutor in. Mentoring can be defined in different ways, but there is a general definition. People sometimes group tutors and mentors in the same category, when in all actuality they are two different things. Mentoring is to “support, encourage skills, and help with personal growth” (What Is Mentoring?). Tutors are typically when regarding school or certain skills, such as singing. Mentors are known as the experienced and knowledgeable person, while the mentee is the person seeking the help or gaining the help. Mentors can be used for virtually anything since they are there for encouragement and support. It is important for children to have at least one mentor in their entire life, even if it is for a short period of time such as a semester during the school year or throughout the entire year.
An educator understudy relationship is imperative for learners. Since, they spend around 5 to 7 hours a day with an instructor for just about 10 months. We ask ourselves what is viewed as a decent educator. For the individuals who have experienced tutoring, if lucky had a most loved instructor. A positive relationship between the understudy and the educator is hard to build up, however can be found for both people at either end. The qualities for a positive relationship can change to set a learning knowledge agreeable and welcoming the understudies to learn. Often there are people who make it difficult for others to speak their minds, but when each member participates equally, the discussion flows freely. In the end, each member leaves the tutorial with a renewed understanding of the text and (perhaps) a new friend to discuss course materials and readings. As a first year student, I find courses easier to manage when tutorials give me a chance to discuss course materials and readings. It also forces me to read the material and ask questions I had difficulty asking in the lecture. Homework offers multiple benefits for real life. One benefit of homework is that it helps the student develop essential skills. While homework may seem like a tedious task, it can help a student comprehend the material. Homework is necessary for more than just a grade; it is an assignment that teaches you valuable life skills. According to “Do students have too much homework?”, homework should lead students to be better at taking what they know and applying it to a certain task. Students tend to portray homework as something that they have to get done without knowing the value that lies behind it. Homework enables the student to recall a certain problem and apply it to another distinctive situation. According to “Do students have too much homework?”, applying knowledge is the most important. Learning is definitely important but what students do with the facts that they learned is essential as well. Applying knowledge allows the students to take a simple fact and relate it to a grander scheme of things. Relating what they know will enhance their creativity and let them see behind the lines of how everything connects.
I want to be a Helper to the community I once loved and adored. I want to help bring R1 out of the dark and born anew again. I hope you all give me that chance once again to become a staff member on one of the best servers I have played on at the time.
Helping students acquire and integrate new knowledge is another important aspect of learning. When students are learning new information, they must be guided in relating new knowledge to what they already know, organizing that information, and then making it part of their long-term memory. When the students acquiring new skills and processes, they must learn a model or the steps, then shape the skill or process to make it efficient and effective for them, and finally, internalize or practice the skill or process so they can perform it easily.
This tutor can be an adult such as a parent or teacher, or can be a peer who the learner has worked collaboratively with, and have understood the instructions provided and have internalized the information to change his/her performance. (McLeod, 2014).
Improving students’ grades could be an effect of after-school tutoring, but it is absolutely not the only goal and focus. “Tutoring can lead students to concentrate on immediate performance to the exclusion of underlying learning issues” (Mendelsohn). Peer tutoring works better and is more effective when students of different ability levels work together. In addition, it is perceived with eyes as a beneficial way for students to learn from each other in the classroom or lab setting. While one student may excel or do superior in reading, another student may be excellent or do exceptionally well in English, these two students working together can help and assist each other to understand and comprehend difficult concepts, ideas, or theory, while expanding their own knowledge of the subject. It is a great idea for the students. In addition, it was proven that no instructor was present nor did the instructor facilitate in any of the peer tutoring sessions, not even in the lab. Furthermore, peer tutoring is suitable for all students unless the student has procedural issues that will make it too difficult to apply or relate to this type of studying. Private tutoring is considered a daily routine for majority of the students in Singapore, as studies have shown that 67% of Singaporeans have had enrolled their children for private tuition.(Blackbox, 2012) As such, Singapore has become well known for their kids who are always spending most of their time studying. Parents willingly fork out a lot just to ensure that their children receive supplementary lessons apart from the education that are taught in schools. They reasoned out that it will not only allow the students to keep up and understand with what is being taught in school, but also outperform their peers and also doing well academically.
The textbook definition of peer tutoring is "a system of instruction in which learners help each other and learn (themselves) by teaching," (Goodlad and Hirst 13). Key to this definition is the word peer, meaning someone with the same or a nearly equal status as the person being tutored, who, as such, is not a professional instructor. Peer tutoring has played an important part in education and has probably existed in some incarnation since the beginning of civilization. But the first recorded use of an organized, systematic peer tutorial learning project in the Western World didn't come about until the late 1700's.
During the spring of 1993, I started tutoring mathematics and chemistry for the Minority Student Services Math & Science Learning Center at the University of Arizona. Through comprehensive tutor training, I further developed my interpersonal skills and knowledge of the concepts and procedures gained from previous course work to help students in their classes. Not only was this a valuable learning experience for the students I tutored, but it was also a worthwhile learning experience for me. In particular, I found working with students from different cultural backgrounds very broadening and personally rewarding.
