One of the possible research topics I plan to undertake involves analyzing the impact that mentoring can have on the graduation success rate of African American males, particularly when the mentor is a Black male and the relationship takes place in the south. In my opinion, these relationships can have a profound impact on a student’s ability to persist towards graduating from college. Though my research, I want to hear the stories of Black males who have benefited from successful mentoring relationships with other Black men. I believe that establishing a strong mentoring relationship with Black males at a young age can greatly improve their chance of academic success. Furthermore, I believe that mentoring is a strong early intervention mechanism to prevent Black males from dropping out of high school and deterring them from pursuing degrees in higher education. At the same time, I would like my research interest to focus on African American males in the south, but I would like my scope to focus on mentoring relationships between black men; both structured and unstructured.
I am fond of leadership because of my experience with the empowering feeling that being a leader provides. Such opportunities to lead have pushed me to become a proponent of the development of leadership skills among youth through additional volunteerism with... ... middle of paper ... ... ting because opportunities capitulate more opportunities and challenges are simply opportunities to grow! With this in mind, I face college with a confident demeanor, and I prepare to learn new things and achieve success in a world that I have yet to experience, but cannot wait to do so.

The internship can additionally, help me grow as an individual by being in a new environment and having the opportunity to adapt to it on my own.
There are many reasons why I want to join the peer advising team here at San Diego State. I have a passion for helping other people in any sense of the word. If I can give someone some type of information or help that they are seeking than I feel as if I have a purpose and I am accomplished in doing my duty as a human being. My freshman year I was very confused as to what major i wanted to be in and Psychology interested me, so I attended the peer advising office seeking help. The girl that met with me was very friendly and was knowledgeable about the major at SDSU and laid it all out for me. I then later that day declared a psychology major. There are many student like myself who have no idea what they want to major in and don
There are so many reasons why I want to be a link crew leader. First of all, if I was a link crew leader, it means that I will be able to help the incoming freshmen. I remember going to the orientation in 9th grade. I was so scared, but the link crew leaders told me that I would be okay. The encouragement and the positivity that they showed me help me a lot and I really want to do the same for the upcoming freshmen. Next, becoming a link crew leader will also help me grow as a person. It will help me become more confident in myself and become a better leader especially after assisting students to transition from 8th grade to 9th grade. It will also help me grow better at communicating Overall; it will be a great experience for the upcoming
After joining however I quickly realized the difference I could make in someone’s life by simply donating a few hours of my time. The school children I mentor 2-3 times a week are one of the greatest delights. Many of them do not receive any one on one time with another individual except for when I am tutoring them. These children have such great potential if only their parents and other adults around them would take the time to see it. It fills me with great satisfaction knowing that I am making a difference in those who one day may be leading this
Goldman (1995) discusses how leaders with high emotional intelligence are able to assess, identify, and predict others emotions while being able to effectively manage their own feelings as they interact with others. Leaders who have high emotional intelligence have the abilities to motivate oneself and persist during difficult situations, they are able to control impulses or emotions, they are capable of regulating their moods, they are able to think during difficult situations as well as empathize with others. This type of leader is able to not only recognize their own emotions, but also recognize the emotions and well-being of people around them. The author describes the importance of listening to others, being self-aware, using self-regulation,
I should be a Moderator, because I have a great experience at staff, with communicating with players, helping and giving the right information to the player so they can understand better. Also I want to help the other Staff members when they are either sleep, doing other activities, doing homework, at work, moderating on another server. I also should be Helper, because I am a friendly guy who is strict with the rules and is cool with the players, who wants to give back to the community of OpCraft and fulfill the duty I am going to fulfill. I also want to give back by helping the other Moderator get rid of the hackers and make the community a better place for players to play on.
Well I think what motivates me the most is my drive to want to help new students feel involved on campus. When I first arrived here, I didn't really know anyone and I was really nervous about the new environment I was in. But every time I would see my RA he was always really nice to me and made me feel welcome. Also the events that he would throw on our floor would create a way for me to get out of my comfort zone and go and meet new people. So like my RA, I want to help students feel more comfortable when they're making the transition to college and maybe help them feel more confident to participate in social events. From being an RA, I hope to gain some experience when it comes to leadership and also some experience with planning events and being creative. Skills that I would bring to the job would be my sensitivity and experience with
My first reasons would be the socials aspect. I have confidence that my capability to encourage others through faith as well as support will be valuable to others and help me be the best resident leader I can be. I want to work toward becoming the resident leader that others count on. In doing so, I feel I’ll be fully prepared to take on any greater responsibilities which might be present throughout the year. I want to help the students seek to become servant leaders, compassionate peace makers, and Christ centered. The second reasons is the professional aspect. It will give me the opportunity to grow as a leader and teach me skills that will help me advance in my secondary education career. I also believe being a resident leader is one of the best opportunities I can receive on this campus because it will help me become more connected to the students at a deeper level and get to know the resident life staff members better.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
Helping others to learn has been an important activity throughout my life. Whether the person was a friend or a peer, I always took pleasure in assisting others to learn an idea or a concept. Tutoring is a learning method that requires a knowledgeable person who can explain a concept to a less-experienced person. I want to become a peer tutor for the LEAP Scholars Program because I desire to assist incoming students in their first college courses in an effective and helpful manner. With my academic record, experiences with tutoring, and unique skill set and traits, I strongly believe that I will be an excellent tutor.
