Why Do Extracurricular Activities Should Be Mandatory

When it comes to things that are mandatory, I don't think having to do an extracurricular activity should be one of those things for many reasons. There are too many problems that come with having another mandatory thing to do. Most 8th graders are already busy as it is and taking time away from what we have to do for our main classes, could be a large detriment on us. Some kids already have an after school activity that they do, but not for school and if they have time for that, that's great but if we are required to do an after school activity for the school, then that person may have to drop that activity that they actually enjoy just to make time for the required one from the school. I don't think making kids do an after school activity is a good idea.

The older you get, the more work you get and the more your teachers push you to do better and excel. Having another thing to do at the end of the day is very time consuming and it's hard to get homework and study for things when you don't have the time. I'm sure for most schools, money plays a big role in how much of something we are allowed to have at school, how many field trips we go on, and many more things. It already costs a lot to pay for the electricity, water, internet, and technology we have at school and making the kids do an after school activity, could take even more money out of the schools pocket. Even if schools were required to do an extra activity, it would probably be low budget for some schools because of the costs. The schools would have to buy equipment, pay for bus costs for field trips, pay the teachers, and much more.
