What Makes My Life Push

I believe in push because in my life push has been everything. It happens when my dad gets mad and rides me for doing things. It happens when coaches do not let you give up. It happens when my mom talks to me about helping others. Push does not have to be hurtful. It can and, for me, has been helpful. When I was 13, I was at my lake house. I was down at the shore fishing. My dad went into our shed. He screamed my name. I thought, “Oh no. What did I do now?” I walked in and saw the huge disappointed in my dad’s eyes. Then I saw the huge mess of fishing lures and line. As he was yelling at me to clean it up, I was hot headed and wanted to yell back. As I was cleaning it up, I realized he was trying to turn me into a young man. That if I listened he would put me on the path of being a man that would have the tools for life, in the right place. My team was losing by 2 touchdowns. At the end of the third quarter, we all ran over to Coach Ken. We were all crying because it was the game we needed to win to go into championship. We thought we were going to lose. He circled us up and said this game is not over. He pushed the idea that this game had just began. We needed to get our butts out there and get a win. I was tired and had a hurt hand, but he pulled me off to the side and just said, “Thomas, I need your help. I need you to believe and play like we can win!” We went to overtime and won that game.
