Knute Rockne - Coach and Legend of Notre Dame
Knute Kenneth Rockne was born on March 4, 1888 in Voss, Norway. He first moved to Chicago at the age of 5. Nobody liked him there, and he was in many fights. Before football or even baseball, Knute discovered skiing. He loved it, and went skiing every chance he got during the winter. Knute was a natural athlete, and excelled in all of the sports he tried. He excelled in track, making a name for himself later on.
Although he was always one of the shortest guys around, Knute was one of the toughest. The only protective gear he ever wore was adhesive tape that he stuck to his ears to prevent them from being torn off. Knute often said "Show me a good and gracious loser and I'll show you a failure."
Knute discovered the great game of football at the age of 7. He played in games against other teams his age. The team he played on was called the
Tricky Tigers. All of the teams were "sandlot" teams. Knute could not get enough of the sport. He praticed every chance he got. In fact, the other boys thought him crazy for practicing so much. This obsession almost got him an education.
Knute never made the starting team until he was a senior, so he played on the scrubs team.
At the same time, Knute tried playing many other sports. His school attendance slipped and his grades became mediocre. Persistence paid off, and after 3 years on the scrubs, Knute finally made it to the starting football team.
After this successful senior football season, it was time for him to leave high school. It was a wonder that he got into Notre Dame with his high school record.
At the age of 22, Rockne decided that he wanted to fulfill a dream. That dream was to become a pharmacist and to eventually own his own drug store. Two of Knute's friends gained acceptance to a small college in South Bend, Indiana called Notre Dame. Knute decided to try to get into this same school, although his high school grades were dismal. He was accepted, but his parents were not fond of the idea of him going to a Catholic school, as they themselves were practicing Lutherans. However, they did not forbid him to go. Interestingly,
Notre Dame was not Rockney's first college choice. For years he had saved and planned to go to the University of Illinois. Knute had not even planned on playing football in college. That decision would have resulted i...

...! Practice makes perfect and perfect practice makes a winning team."
One of his most innovative ideas was the Notre Dame Shift'. This was when the entire backfield would move all to oneside of the ball before the ball was snapped. This really screwed up the defenders and it worked a lot for ND.
"Knute was the most innovative and charismic coaches of his era."
The Cleavland Press called him "the Buffalo Bill of his generation." In his last game as coach he defied his doctors orders and went to the field. The players looked on in horror when the man they thought might die in front of them told them to win or watch him die. Rockne ended his career with the greatest all time % of .881: 105 wins,12 losses, 5 ties, 6 national championships and 5 undefeated seasons. Rokne tragically died in a plane crash a the age of 43.
Studebaker named a car after him and the U.S. government named a ship after him.
Will Rogers put it best when he said, " It takes a big calamity to shock a country all at once, but Knute, you did it. You died one of our national heroes.
Notre Dame was your address, but every gridiron in america was your home."(needs to be proofread)
467). In other words, two criminals that commit the same crime should get the same punishment, regardless of their personal backgrounds. Extralegal factors should not in any way influence the decisions made concerning sentencing. Schmalleger provides an example of how cases in an otherwise neutral law can unintentionally have unequal application for sentencing decisions. It was discovered that there was a disproportionate amount of African Americans convicted to longer for possession and use of crack cocaine compared to those who were Caucasian (Schmalleger p. 468). Congress and President Obama addressed this issue by passing the Sentencing Fairness Act of 2010 which changed the relative punishments for the quantities of each (Schmalleger
Montresor made an audacious decision in Edgar Allan Poe’s story, “The Cask of Amontillado” to commit a murder encased with envy. In the story, Montresor reminisces to his audience (fifty years after the felony), bragging about how he got away with this crime. Throughout the story, readers learn more about Montresor’s past; that he has been affronted by Fortunato about the squander of his family’s wealth. Montresor feeling a lack of virility; resorted to murder to feel influential again, without hesitation to his deed. His actions and choice of words throughout the story accede to the proof that Montresor’s jealousy of the aristocracy ultimately leads to him committing murder.
At the beginning of the story, Montresor tells us that he has vowed vengeance on Fortunato. Montresor also states "I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done wrong." (Poe 673). This means that not only will he get his vengeance, but Fortunato will know that Montresor is his demise. Poe has not only shown that Montresor is a killer, but a killer with a set of rules that he will follow until Fortunato's death. I believe this is the most important part of the story. It creates an interest, sets the plot, and provides an insight into Montresor's twisted mind.
eastern Queens. He pulled into the television world when he was a child, although he did not
Osteoporosis affects the functioning of the skeletal system creating many complications. It causes the bones to be weak and hence they can break easily making functions such as movements hard and very risky. According to Havard Health Publishing, (2012), “Individuals with osteoporosis are at higher risk for breaking bones. The most common osteoporosis-related fractures occur in the wrist, hip, and spine. Hip fractures can be difficult to heal. This can lead to complications and other health problems, and often contribute to premature death.”
“Alright guys, let’s do this” coach said. We had a few receivers and we sub out every play because the receivers bring in the play to the quarterback, so I had a few plays until I actually go in. On the plays that I am not in I have time to think about all the plays and what I do on those plays. Finally, I got to go in.
Edgar Allan Poe is a well known author, who writes stories full of mysteries. Edgar Allan Poe creates mystic images in the minds of his audience through imagery. Edgar Allan Poe uses imagery to bring his stories to life and really get the point across to his audience. Imagery is what really makes a story intriguing, and that is exactly what Poe does in “The Cask of Amontillado”. This story can be somewhat confusing. Paying attention to the details is key to seeing the story come to life through imagery and Poe’s genius work. Imagery is found all throughout “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe's strong words that create a mental picture inside of the reader's mind.
Montresor, one of the protagonist, his name means “my treasure” in French and his secret murder plan to kill Fortunato was his perfect treasure. Fortunato, the second protagonist, his name means “fortunate” in Italian and that’s an ironic name for someone who is going to be murdered and killed in the catacombs. When Poe concludes with “a huge human foot d’or, in a field azure; the foot crushes a serpent rampant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel” (176), allows the reader to see how Poe uses the image of a serpent as a symbol of revenge. Fortunato, it’s obviously the snake and Montresor is the foot that it’s going to crash and kill him. Following this quote, Poe concludes with “Nemo me impune lacessit” (176), a Latin sentence that means “no one provokes me without impunity” (176). The Montresor’s family had that sentence as their logo, and Montresor felt that his family was insulted by Fortunato and that’s why he wants
My dream is to make a difference in someone's life in the health field one day. For this job shadow I shadowed a registered nurse. It was the best experience I've had. I learned that its not easy but its rewarding in the end. Helping people stay alive or taking care of them can really make a difference in your life as well.
Osteoporosis is a disease of the bone. It is formed from a decrease of bone strength and bone mass. Due the reduction of bone density, it makes bones thinner and more fragile. Resulting from osteoporosis your bones become extremely weak and put you at a higher risk of bone fractures. Osteoporosis is often known as the “silent thief” because it can happen without feeling any symptoms until the bone is actually broken. It causes bones to become weak and brittle --- so brittle that a fall or even mild stresses like bending over or coughing can cause a fracture.
Osteoporosis is most commonly caused by aging according to experts, but it can happen at any time in a person’s life. Most common risk factor for this disease is to be female postmenopausal. This reason being is because females lose
Have you ever wondered why many elderly people walk slower and frequently complain about their aching bodies? While there may be many different medical reasons for these symptoms, one of the most common is Osteoporosis. Although I have yet to reach my twenties, I am not a stranger to this bone disease. I see the effects of Osteoporosis take a toll on my great-grandmother and great-grandfather. Their conditions have ignited my curiosity, making me eager to research and learn more about the disease from its causes, symptoms, effects, and treatments.
to pursue a career in the medical field. Pharmacy fascinates me because of the process of using medicine to cure illness and injuries.
Continuing my education to learn different ways to help my community. Specializing as a pharmacist is one of my goals as well. I would love to work in research, clinical, nuclear, military or even veterinary pharmacy. Researching all there is to know about a medication, how they work on the body and how the body works on the medication would be a great opportunity. To be able to find a cure to a disease or help in the making of a medication for a particular disease. To have an idea, make it a hypothesis, examine various protein structures, make experiments, produce results, provide countless clinical trials, and be able to make a dream come true. To help out soldiers in their time of need, collaborate with physicians and other health care providers to promote the wellness of patients and prevent
I USED TO LOOK AT THE SENIOR BOYS PLAYING ‘THAT ROUGH’ GAME rugby and just wonder at the courage that they possessed. Never in my mind did I see myself as a rugby player. It is true I was bigger than many of the people on the team but that did not mean I had half the courage. That was way back in my first years at Budo high school. Then one day, a rugger by the name of Yustus reached out to me. “KESA”, he called out my nickname. “You should try out rugby with us one of these days”, he added.
