Essay Being a perfectionist is something that has affected me my entire life. No matter what I work on, whether it be a written essay or video project, I could spend endless amounts of days and weeks polishing it. However, with this comes tons of stress that I can never get rid of. After struggling to decide whether perfection was worth the stress, a single project helped me change my mindset and realize the stress was an indication that I didn 't need to be perfect. Ever since I was five, I liked playing “director” by telling my parents when to flash the lights or start the music whenever I put on little concerts for my family. I created the idea that I would record my process of making the movie. My process would essentially be my product, but I didn’t know what the message I wanted to convey was if I went through with this idea. I talked to the Media teacher about this, and he and I quickly realized that I didn’t need to know everything yet. He said, “Everything you touch turns to gold,” meaning he knew I put a lot of effort into the projects I did in every class. He said on all of my projects, I set the bar so high for what the expectations are by everyone, including me. That causes me to stress out, but he said that if I looked at it the right way, I can actually relax. My Media Arts teacher thought that whatever I was going to produce would end up being brilliant. This change of thought process was hard to accept at first. Being a perfectionist, I used to think of all the negative things in my ideas even before I started working on them. I’ve always stressed myself out this way, along with many other possible ways, and I think that has to do with my reputation of being able to produce consistently impressive material. However, I know I’m not perfect. As long as I remember that, whatever I do will turn out okay, it actually relieves some of my stress to make it perfect. I 've been committed to my academic education since I was very young. I 've done my best even since elementary school, which ended up resulting in the principal bumping me up a grade, now making me one of the youngest students in my classes. I 've worked hard for my current 4.0 GPA as of the end of the this first semester, and I am proud of being a straight A student for nearly all of my time in middle school and high school so far. That being said, I also have an interest in the arts. I 've been acting since I was eight years old, and the first theatrical production I was cast in was "A Christmas Carol" at the Guthrie Theater. I continued to be a part of the Guthrie 's annual production of this play for five consecutive years from 2008 to 2012 until I turned thirteen. During this time, I 've continued to act at various venues such as the Mixed Blood Theatre, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, Children 's Theatre Company, and Stages Theatre Company. The participant’s BDI scores reflected moderate depression severity in the depressed group (mean = 29.62, SD = 9.27), and no depression in the control group (mean = 3.26, SD = 3.83). To measure for the level of perfectionism of an individual the performance perfectionism scale which is a 32-item questionnaire that measures outcome expectancy for performance associated with perfectionism was used. The PPS indexes how individuals expect their perfectionism to influence their performance. To make a graph from the measurements two dimensions are used in this study include, the outcome expectancy for performance (positive or negative), and the source of the high standards for performance (self-generated or prescribed by others). Four subtypes of perfectionism are quantified in the PPS: Positive Self-Oriented Performance Perfectionism, Negative Self-Oriented Performance Perfectionism, Positive Socially Prescribed Performance Perfectionism, and Negative Socially Prescribed Performance Perfectionism. Another test was conducted to measure the depression symptoms which was called Beck depression inventory II. This test includes 21-items questionnaire and the coefficient alphas were .93 and .94 for the Cognitive and Non-Cognitive subscales, respectively. Often supernatural beings or fictitious characters were used to explain popular ideas concerning phenomena's of nature or the history of people. Perfectionism is a common cause of low self-esteem. It is critical of every effort and convinces you that nothing is ever good enough. It can also cause you to drive yourself to the point of chronic stress, exhaustion, and burnout. Every time perfectionism counsels counsels you that you "should", "have to", or "must", you tend to push yourself forward out of anxiety, rather than from natural desire and inclination. He explain that “perfectionism and indecisive decision making are results of someone struggling with procrastination” ( ). As procrastination becomes a more common act, it can also bring about the action of perfectionism. Perfectionism is said to be the “refusal to accept any standard short of perfection” ( ). This conduct is paired with procrastination negatively as it causes one to postpone tasks because they feel pressured to meet their high standards ( ). For instance, a bride may push aside planning her wedding because she is so overwhelmed with wanting it to be perfect. She gets too caught up in overanalyzing the tiny details, such as focusing on napkin patterns or music choices which initially just wastes time. The bride may think she’s creating the perfect wedding, but in reality, she’s procrastinating; spending way too much time on maybe one aspect of the big picture. Later, when it is almost too late, she realizes that time has not only slipped away, but the rest of her wedding needs to be planned out. There is no need to spend inappropriate amounts of time on a task that does not require that degree of accuracy or completeness. The perfectionists think that in truth only exists extremes but there is no middle ground. For them percentage of success as a rate of 95% or higher is a failure because they have to be 100% perfect. Normal perfectionists are the normal form of perfectionism so they can concentrate on the good ways to gather perfectionism. They have quite normal expectations from themselves. Latter one wants more performance than they can do so they become unsatisfied because they think that they can not do better as anyone else.
