Even good leaders have weaknesses and have room for improvement. One weakness that I need to work on is making sure my employees know that even though I have many qualities of an interactive leader I am still the supervisor. Lines can be blurry when using this leadership approach. Employees could misunderstand this style of leadership and when hard conversations are needed the employee can become confused and upset. I need to make sure that even though I am a friendly and open leader that my employees still understand that there is a line. I need to make sure not to go beyond that line and always keep our relationships professional. There needs to be a balance according to Rosener (1990). Another weakness is not being viewed as a strong …show more content…
By creating a teamwork atmosphere I have weekly meetings to go over with my employee’s projects that we are working on. At this time I delegate some tasks to each employee. Although they are very receptive to these new tasks I need to make sure they are not feeling overwhelmed or mistreated. They could very easily feel like I am just a superior who delegates out all her work and consequently not feel appreciated. I need to make sure that when giving out new work to the employees that I am taking some of those tasks as well. I also need to make sure that I know my employee’s work load and I am not burdening them with too much …show more content…
This theory states that employee’s perceptions of how they are treated whether it is fair on not impacts their job performance (Daft, 2013). If an employee is paid what the average employee is paid doing the same job then the employee will feel they are treated fairly and will perform better. If an employee is paid under the average then they tend to care less about performing at top level (Daft, 2013). I would suggest that annually an audit is performed verifying that employees are being paid an acceptable rate compared to the average. If employees are paid under than an increase should be given. This would ensure that employees are happy and that they stay with the company long term and the company will be rewarded with employees who are knowledgeable and educated in their
One may wonder exactly what it is that qualities a strong leader possesses. A strong leader is determined, and strong willed. They must be of good judgment, and without bias. They cannot easily be persuaded, and they are firm, yet at the same time, a good lead must also empathize with his subordinates, and have the best interest at heart for said subordinates, at all times. However, with that being said, a good leader cannot be afraid to discipline his subordinates when necessary. Unmistakably, being a leader is a very difficult feat – one which not everyone can accomplish. A leader must be an authority, a friend and a counsellor, all at once. They must be responsible, and always take into account the disadvantages of a situation. Not everyone is suitable to be a leader, whereas, just about anybody can be a good role model.
Though there are many good qualities in a leader, Catherine Meliniotis sums it all up in her article written for Advance Healthcare Network. For example, she discusses how it is always imperative to begin with good communication, continue to request feedback from staff, patients and families, encourage staff to provide their own ideas and suggestions, and ask your staff if you are focusing on the right concerns. Meliniotis also encourages emphasis on interpersonal skills, being adaptable, and showing empathy. In particular, it is essential
It takes a long time to become an effective and respected leader but can evaporate very quickly with one misstep. It needs to be nurtured and cultivated every day. My personal leadership style is to observe and correct. As a junior member, one of my Chief told me, “I don’t care how long it takes you to do a job as long as you do it right the first time because if it is wrong you will be the one fixing it.” That resonated with me because it allowed me to take risks and learn from my mistakes making me a better technician. I firmly believe one of the best learning tools is failure. His statement let me know it was all right to fail but if you do you will be learning from it. Identifying weaknesses within my leadership abilities and striving to correct them will result in being consistently looked upon a leader within our
“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others” (Welch). Leadership is inspiring others to learn more, do more, and become more. Ineffective fail to possess certain characteristics which effective leaders do. Willingness to help others, selflessness, and strictness; these are the qualities of a both good and effective leader. Without these qualities, leadership would fail and being a leader would mean nothing.
Understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses is essential to becoming and being a good leader. “Purposeful leaders understand who they are” (Mayfield, 2013). The author of this paper has had previous opportunities to lead, and will reflect on her experiences using the assigned inventory. She will evaluate her skill set and discuss ways she can be an advocate for change with the hospital and community in which she is employed. Lastly, she will identify one personal goal for her leadership growth and explore different avenues for obtaining that goal.
When taking the two different personality tests, I received the same result for both. I am considered to have an ISFJ (Introvert, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging) personality type. These personality tests I believe help believe get more in depth with the type of person they are but also help them to see there are other people in the world that are like them. A few known people that are similar to my personality type are mother Teresa, and Barbra Bush. Along with learning about others like me, I was able to realize more into my strengths and weaknesses.
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. By knowing that things do not always work out as planned has helped me change the tactics of how I perform my tasks. I do not always expect to have a smooth flow of opportunities or accomplish goals, but
Paul declares in 1st Corinthians that to each of God’s children a spiritual gift has been given. Over the years of my walk with the Lord I have concluded that I possess the noticeable gift of speaking in tongues and perhaps the gift of discerning spirits. As we have been learning about our proclivities towards certain strengths, I have been thinking about different ways mine are useful in and for the Church. Analytical is in my top 5 and it greatly assists my ability to learn and discern during the teaching of the Word. As Gallup puts it on their website, I have a “prove it” mentality. Therefore, habitually, I scrutinize everything the speaker says and cross-reference it against my bank of theological knowledge. However, I realize that I
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
One of the characteristics they mentioned is to be involved and speak up when needed. This is where I could have the greatest opportunity for improvement. I am able to become involved, however, I am not that great at speaking up. They also state, “feel free to criticize because thoughtful feedback helps a leader make good decisions” (Grossman & Valiga, 2017, p. 97). I am not good at criticizing because I frequently think, what if they take it the wrong way and become angry? In order for a leader to make good decisions, they are going to need to receive feedback from someone at some point. I do not believe that the leader is always going to be right. I enjoy hearing feedback from others, so I have to learn to give feedback
The best ways to communicate to your employees are to make sure the environment and place is right for the communication. The leader needs to emphasize on the important parts, focus on the body language and keep eye contact. To be able to success in a project there should be a good communication between the employee and leader, project leader cannot just make a decision because they thinks it is the best decision to make. The majority of the employee has to agree with the decision, so that there is no dispute. (Palmer & Walls, 2001)
When it comes to my schoolwork, I tend to be extremely conscientious, diligent, and ambitious. A few of my academic strengths are my organizational skills and ability to think critically. A weakness that I have is test taking; while taking tests I become nervous, and forget the information. I become upset with myself if I earn a C on a test or in a class. Then I consider what I could have done differently to receive a higher grade and apply it to future assignments. I react this way when it comes to my studies, because my dad used to get upset with us if we received anything below a B in specific subjects. For example, if we got a C in math my dad would say, “You don’t know how to count? I guess I will stop giving you money since you cannot count it.” He would also reward us for being able to count and getting good grades. When I was a little girl, he used to put out money and give us 30 seconds to count it, if we counted
According to the equity theory people (employees) subjectively determine the attitude of the consideration received for their efforts and then relate it to the remuneration of other people doing similar work. If this comparison indicates imbalance and injustice, a person believes that his colleague for the same work received a greater award. As a result, it is necessary to motivate the employee to ...
A reason that this country works well is that everyone has diverse abilities which can contribute to everyday life. Some people let those abilities shine at work, in their personal life or both. As people have their strengths, they also have their weaknesses. There is a problem to improve those weaknesses when the weakness is not identified. Once the weak point is identified it needs to be resolved. A plan of action for improvement helps in solving the situation. In this paper, I will identify abilities and skills that I possess that contribute positively in my work environment, in my personal life, and in my learning team. I will also identify personal areas that need improvement, and outline a plan of action for improvement.
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
