When it comes to my schoolwork, I tend to be extremely conscientious, diligent, and ambitious. A few of my academic strengths are my organizational skills and ability to think critically. A weakness that I have is test taking; while taking tests I become nervous, and forget the information. I become upset with myself if I earn a C on a test or in a class. Then I consider what I could have done differently to receive a higher grade and apply it to future assignments. I react this way when it comes to my studies, because my dad used to get upset with us if we received anything below a B in specific subjects. For example, if we got a C in math my dad would say, “You don’t know how to count? I guess I will stop giving you money since you cannot count it.” He would also reward us for being able to count and getting good grades. This dream gave me motivation to do everything possible to achieve my dreams to become an elementary school teacher. Even though I have been through a great ordeal, it has caused me to become a stronger person. The obstacles I have faced throughout my life have given me motivation, and taught me reliability, and responsibility. One experience that caused me to be the student that I am today is second grade. I loved second grade; the experiences that I went through that year is one of the major reasons for me wanting to become a teacher. When I think about my dream to become an elementary school teacher, it brings me back to when I was in the second grade. I desire to impart the experiences that I experienced throughout my K-12 experience. In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
It’s funny how quickly time flies by it seems like just yesterday I was complaining about writing the first part of this assignment. Looking back at it now, the reasons why I want to become a teacher remain the same. I want to inspire, shape, encourage, and mentor my students. I want to make the kind of impact on each and every single one of them that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Whether it be simply believing in them, and telling them that I know they are capable of accomplishing anything they want to, or helping them through a tough time. My desire to become a teacher has increased tremendously the past 16 weeks, and I am so eager and excited to finish my education to begin my teaching career.
Becoming a teacher was not something I always knew I wanted. As I approached an age where I really started considering what I would like to do for a career I only knew that I did not want to work in an office behind a desk all day. I wanted a job that would be interactive, challenging and exciting. I also knew I wanted a job that would be important and would somehow contribute to the world in an important way. I thought being a teacher; particularly a teacher in the primary levels would fulfill those hopes and goals assuming I dedicate myself to becoming an effective teacher who has a positive influence on the lives of my students.
To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of some whom I consider to be the best teachers in the world. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. Mrs. Hollyfield inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher.
I ended up contacting 3 of my family members, and I told them to be brutality honest with me. I also told them whatever they said to me would not hurt my feelings. The four people I contacted where my brother, mom and dad. My dad said that my strengths where that I’m independent and I like to work on my own, that I was very determined to be successful, and that I am very driven to be the best at everything. She said my weaknesses where time management since I sometimes put off homework till last minute, that processes where hard for me to follow because I like to do things my way, he also said that I am very needy for approval after I have completed something. My mom said that I am a hard worker and feel the need to compete tasks fast, that I am a very loyal friend, and I am very determined to succeed in life. She said for my weaknesses that I can sometimes be selfish when it comes to work because I care about me succeeding more then others, she also said that me being a loyal friend is also a weakness because I care about them as much as I care about myself, and finally she said that I can sometimes get distracted easily. A strength of convergent and active experimentation in regards to disciplinary perspective would be that I have leadership skills that will allow me to successfully keep my information organized and clear. Another strength would be my ability to give detailed information during lectures and be able to promptly answer any questions. A weakness would include strict policies and schedule. To ensure that I have successfully been productive for my students I would want to be as productive as possible during lectures. In order for students to maintain a good course grade they would benefit from having similar, if not the same, learning style as myself. Being a successful student and achieving continued academic success is fundamental in order to complete an associate degree and become a successful professional. College is challenging, but it can be a rewarding growth experience and easier when setting up goals. Having educational and career goals helps students keep the focus and motivation. Besides, having knowledge of different learning styles can help students learn about themselves and increase efficiency while studying. Writing skills learned in college are also a powerful tool for both academic and career success. The campus is a great place to find tools to succeed and achieve continued academic success. It is also important to keep academic honesty as a good habit and as a value of integrity throughout college and later on in the professional environment.

Becoming a teacher has been the ultimate aspiration for myself since the first day I walked into kindergarten. As a very timid student, it was a difficult task transitioning from being with my mother everyday, to being part of a classroom environment full of strangers. However, my kindergarten teacher helped me through this transition smoothly, and adequately. I very quickly learned to love school. Soon after, I knew I would aspire to become a teacher. I would spend countless hours at home with a blackboard, acting as a teacher to my imaginary students throughout my elementary school years.
Ever since I started school my parents would always tell me when I would bring my report card with three’s home that it was never good enough and that they wanted to see fours and fives, even though my school did not give higher than a four. I remember one day I came home from 2nd grade with a student achievement award and my grandparents were very happy and proud. Afterward, I felt better and smarter until later when I went to show it to my dad he said “… that is not good enough you should have gotten the student of the month award.” It made me really depressed because instead of thinking he was pushing me to improve, he really thought I was not intelligent. I did not realize he was saying it so it could push me to get the student of the month award. The following month after I tried to get the award by doing all my homework, paying more attention in class and participating more often, I got the award and achieved my goal to make my family proud. I realized that the more I do to better my education the more I go to the next
I always feel the obligation in doing my best in many things in life. Accompanied by this outlook, I am pleased to say that I have had a good amount of success in my academic achievements. However, not every subject in school has not been easy for me. Math and Science have created many difficulties and challenges for me.
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
I am so excited about one day teaching our children. My goal is to be a positive influence on a child and I cannot imagine anything more important to do with my life than helping children. A quote from Herbert Kohl sums up my feelings of becoming an educator: “I believe the impulse to teach is fundamentally altruistic and represents a desire to share what you value and to empower others. I am not talking about the job of teaching so much as the calling to teach. Most teachers I know have felt that calling at some time in their lives.” My dream is to someday soon fulfill my calling.
Teaching has always been a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl. I have had multiple teachers who have impacted my life in many ways, but the one teacher who has inspired me to pursue a career in the education field as a teacher would be my math teacher that I have this year. She inspires me every day and is truly my role model. I look up to her on a daily basis, and I aspire to become a teacher because of her and how she has changed my life for the better have always appreciated the hard work that teachers do on a daily basis, and I always have appreciated the fact that they take time out of their day to teach their students valuable skills that the students may utilize in the future. I aspire to become a teacher in the future and hopefully make a difference in students’ lives. Teachers are more than just people who educate students, they are people who continue to make a difference in my life and teach me the value of hard work every day. I know that I really want to pursue a career in the education field as a teacher because I want to help people and share my love of learning with my future students. I also want to become a teacher because I would like to give back to the amazing teachers that I have this year and take what they have taught me and instill that in my future classroom. I realize that teaching is a lot of hard work, but I am willing to give one hundred percent effort on a daily basis so that students can receive a great education that they deserve.
