Writing is an important and valuable skill within the field of public relations. It is important for public relations people to be able to develop honest and accurate content on behalf of their clients, companies, or the organizations they work for. I would say that writing is probably the paramount skill that could help you reach success in the field of public relations. When you use imprecise grammar, spelling, or vocabulary you make a bad impression for yourself as your writing comes out incoherent, flawed, or unconvincing. Even the smallest of mistakes could cause your writing to be viewed as unprofessional such as the failing to use capitalization, abandoning the rules of writing, using abbreviations, misusing vocabulary, or even forgetting punctuation. Writing helps public relations professionals execute tasks such as, pitching to the media, networking and developing relationships, and communicating to name a few.
As we learned in chapter one of, The Only Grammar Book You`ll Ever Need, grammar has specific rules sometimes and this can become extremely hard to follow as there are numerous rules and exceptions as well. After reading this chapter, however, I was able to depict the most commonly misused words in writing and I realized many of those words I had been misusing myself. Whether it is how I want to put it or not being able to use correct vocabulary to disperse my thoughts to my audience. Another weakness I have is the organization of my paper. I write as I think and sometimes my thoughts may be all over the place. After I have completed a paper, I go back and reread it a couple of times and realize that what I said at times makes no sense because my information is scattered around. The weakness I portray are very difficult for me to think of. I know that I have quite a few but to change them is something that I have not full conquered yet. A weakness I know I have is sentence structure. I am not very good at putting sentences together and making them strong and well developed. Another weakness that is obvious is word choice. I don't always know the exact wording to use in different parts of a paper, this makes it hard to understand sometimes not very well written.
Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
Writing deficiencies, I have plenty. My biggest problem is figuring out how to write what I am thinking. I have never been proficient at this task. It looks good to me when I read it, but when I turn the paper over to someone else; they do not find the point I was trying to convey. Typically, I have to verbally express the meaning of the paper to them. This is the area in which I would like to excel in this class.
My first writing weakness was deciding what to write about. I had to read the essay topic over and over again to understand what it was asking for. I would worry that I wouldn’t understand the topic correctly. While writing the essay I was scared to get out of topic and write about something else I wasn’t supposed to write about. Another thing that would happen to me was that suddenly my mind would go blank and wouldn’t be able to think about what else I could write about. The essay I liked writing the most this semester was the second essay. I enjoyed making my own planet and how my alien had a quest with all the commercials I saw on the TV. The hardest essay I wrote this semester was the fourth and last essay. I got confused when I was writing the body paragraphs. This writing weakness impacted my life by showing me that I have trouble thinking about how I could write my essays. I think I should start reading books and maybe I could get a few ideas out of those books.
Another weakness is writer’s block. I’m not quite sure that this can be counted as a weakness but I believe in my case it should be. When I experience writer’s block I believe it wastes too much time that can be used to correct my work. I tend to have to do something else unrelated to ease my mind and feel a bit more light and able to come up with more ideas. Honestly, I believe this weakness is worse than the previous weakness I mentioned because of the time that it consumes.

Being a good writer is a very unique skill, but so is being able to show it off to the world. Journalists do that every day; they get to write about events happening all around us and share it with the world. Anything from world crises to stocks is their job to report. There are so many different kinds of journalists that deal with many different things. Anywhere from sportscasters to reporters are considered journalists. This job ranges from so many options to write about. People show off their writing skills everyday whether it is through a newspaper or a television screen. Journalism is a great profession to go into if you like to write because there are many types of writing opportunities; working conditions are easy and good, and extensive training is needed.
I have honestly identified speaking, mathematics, positive visualization and optimism, seeking support from others, and self esteem and confidence as my weaknesses (Bethel University, 2014). The common theme that I have found with my weaknesses involves my shy and quiet personality (Bethel University, 2014). I have a weakness when it comes to the geometry side of mathematics. No matter how many times that I take measurements for a project, I always have to make multiple trips to the store to buy more materials (Bethel University, 2014).
