Tyson Foods’s vision is to be the global innovative leader of food experiences. Tyson also commits time and money to incorporate their mission of making sustainability the top objective. We believe that a company that strives to be the industry leader, while holding onto sustainability as a prime objective is worth researching. Tyson Foods will also be an intriguing topic as their competitors are well known, trusted brands like Sara Lee, Cargill Inc., Hillshire Farms and many more.
State Farm was founded by farmer, George Jacob "G.J." Mecherle in Bloomington, Illinois. Mercherle didn’t think it was fair that families and other farmers that lived in rural communities paid the same auto insurance rates as those that lived in Chicago. He wanted to establish an “honest insurance company that provided rates related to the risk” (State Farm, About Us). In 1922, after the company opened its doors, a new claim was made which established State Farm’s promise “to be there when the unexpected happens” (State Farm, About Us). According to the State Farm website, the company handles nearly 35,000 claims per day.
Company In-n-out is one of the most popular fast food companies on the west coast, with 313 locations in California, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Oregon. Opened 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, its first location located in in Baldwin Park, California became a popular establishment with a simple yet effective menu option. Today, In-n-out keeps the same menu which consists of burgers, fries, and milkshakes. In-n-out mission statement is “Quality you can taste” Their main focus is the quality of the food and keeping it fresh with only the highest quality ingredients.
The organization that will discussed is the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). TDCJ manages the state's prison system, parole, and state jail systems. This agency is the largest state agency in Texas and they provide training, funding and community supervision. My organization, Trader Joe’s, is not an international business. Their stores are all located in the United States; therefore, I chose Whole Foods, who is a main competitor of Trader Joe’s for this assignment.
In only reading this statement, Safeway’s reason for being seems to be both centered on their customers and in making money for their investors. The core value of satisfying customers, gaining their loyalty, is supported by the values of “superior-quality,” uniqueness and innovation (Safeway, n.d.). Price is not mentioned in this statement. The terms used instead point to a strategy of differentiation. The experience of being the center of attention brings people back into Safeway. They find better items in a different atmosphere.

I was raised in a Christian household and have been taught the same principles Pepperdine teaches its students all my life. My uncle is pastor and has built his own church in Texas. My entire family believes in upholding and spreading Christian values in everything we do. For my analysis, I chose to write about Starbucks Coffee Company and its mission statement. Starbucks’ mission statement reads, “To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.” We all know that Starbucks has enjoyed a huge amount of growth over the past 10+ years, and it is clear that they are seeing that success because they are putting their mission into action. Reading the mission statement, it’s easy to identify Starbucks’ areas of focus: the human spirit, coffee, and community. The company’s “About Us” web pages align with its mission statement.
