State Farm was founded by farmer, George Jacob "G.J." Mecherle in Bloomington,
Illinois. Mercherle didn’t think it was fair that families and other farmers that lived in rural communities paid the same auto insurance rates as those that lived in Chicago. He wanted to establish an “honest insurance company that provided rates related to the risk” (State Farm, About Us). In 1922, after the company opened their doors, a new claim was made which established State Farm’s promise “to be there when the unexpected happens” (State Farm, About Us). According to the State Farm website, the company handles nearly 35,000 claims per day. They still use Mercherle’s original vision which is to operate fairly and do the right thing for their customers. By continuing with this vision, State Farm now offers nearly 100 products and services. It is currently ranked number 41 on the Fortune 500 list of largest companies. This company not only focuses on being there for their customers but they are also involved and support communities through “sponsorships, safety programs, education leadership, and service-learning”. Their mission is to be a good neighbor for customers and communities by building a foundation of shared values.

Farm Bureau is the world’s largest general farm organization, and the voice of agriculture. Most people would think however that Farm Bureau can’t be that big, but Farm Bureau actually has over six million member families across the country and in Puerto Rico. Statistics show that three out of every four people involved in a farm organization actually belong to Farm Bureau. One of the main reasons so many people want to be a part of Farm Bureau is because Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization, meaning the members are the voice.
On March 10, 1937, Joseph Lewis and Jack Green started Progressive Mutual Insurance Company. They wanted to provide vehicle owners with security and protection and they thought an insurance company was a good investment for a couple of lawyers who were just getting started. Since its beginning, Progressive has taken an innovative approach to auto insurance. They offered drive-in claims service before any other auto insurance company and in another industry first, they allowed customers to pay their premiums in installments. An appealing option for those who could not afford annual payments. Progressive wanted and still wants to make auto insurance accessible and easy so more people could protect their vehicles.
Health Maintenance Organizations, or HMO’s, are a very important part of the American health care system. Also referred to as managed care programs, HMO's are combinations of doctors and insurance companies that are formed into one organization. This organization provides treatment to its members at fixed costs and decides on what treatment, if any, will be given based on the patient's or doctor's current health plan. Sometimes, no treatment is given at all. HMO's main concerns are to control costs and supposedly provide the best possible treatment to their patients. But it seems to the naked eye that instead their main goal is to get more people enrolled so that they can maintain or raise current premiums paid by consumers using their service. For HMO's, profit comes first- not patients' lives.

A mission statement is a powerful message that companies or organizations set to be the focus and reason behind why or how they manage things. They are used to help their potential members, employees, or buyers understand their passion. It is of great importance that the mission statement is upheld or it becomes ineffective. These statements are written differently, but they are used for the common objective. The mission statement at Spring Hill College is a well written statement that uses effective style, has a clear focus, and can be interpreted by a varying audience.

With as common as fatal car crashes are, it is no wonder that new drivers are not confident while driving. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, “A total of 2,524 teenagers ages 13-19 died in motor vehicle crashes in 2013,” (“Teenagers”). Allowing teenagers to start driving at
“Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for American teenagers, accounting for about a third of all deaths in that age group” (Crisp). In actual numbers, motor vehicle crashes kill more than 5,000 teenagers every year (Gregory). These statistics are frightening and have led more than 50 percent of adults to support higher required ages for drivers’ licenses (Gregory). Teenagers, though, say this would be unfair and would make their lives difficult. Meeting the needs of Indiana teenagers while still keeping them and other drivers safe can be accomplished by a more restrictive graduated licensing law.
Teens only make up seventeen percent of the population today, but almost twenty percent of fatal crashes are due to teenagers behind the wheel. Growing numbers suggest changing the driving age to eighteen and some even believe that changing it to twenty-one may save even more lives. With a sixteen year old behind the wheel, accidents are even more likely to occur when compared to a seventeen year old (Boulard). With so much new technology in today’s society there are more distractions on the road than ever before; therefore the legal driving age should be raised to save more lives. If we do not act quickly, then more lives will be lost.

Teenagers don’t want to be inconvenient with having to wait to respond to their friends about the latest party or school event that’s coming up. Driving is just as good of time as any to text their best friends about the upcoming weekend or update their Facebook status in the mind of a young adult. Even though most teens know they shouldn’t text and drive many are guilty of doing it several times a day. An overwhelming 75% of teens even admit to text messaging while driving (“Distracted Driving,” 2016). Young drivers are more likely to get into an accident due to lack of experience than that of any other driver on the road. Add in texting to the mix it is a recipe for disaster. About 54% of teenage motor vehicle crash deaths occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday – with Saturday being the deadliest day of the week for teens (Hosansky, 2012). Teenage motor vehicle fatalities are at the highest in the summer months.
Although studies by Dr.Masten and his colleagues show, “75 percent of the fatal crashes we thought we were saving actually just occurred two years later,” (paragraph 4). This was stated when the minimum driving age was sixteen and this effected the number if fatal crashes in eighteen-year olds. Dr. Masten suspects that teenagers are waiting to get their license and skipping the restrictions, (paragraph 7).
