Value of the Employee
Most people liked to be valued by people that they care about. The same works with employee/employer relationships. “Employees who feel valued and appreciated by their leaders are infinitely more likely to go above and beyond for the company and hold themselves accountable for their part of a project. Most importantly, they will be happier in their roles. If leaders disregard the importance of connecting with employees, they lose the benefit of a dedicated, long-term team.” (forbes) The important thing that needs to be looked at is how the leader can still connect to the employee and while still maintaining a position of authority.
#1: Failing to Respond to Employee Emails
As we know leaders are busy managing multiple people and tasks. Employees use email as way of communication as to get the answers they need in a simple and effect manner as well as a way for tracking purposes for future reference. Due to the nature of the business I am in, it is pennant to be able to have constant communication with our manager/ leader because there are situations that arise that need attention within a certain time period. My current team has recently been going through management changes. Before, my old manager left the company there were many discussions by my peers on the way “Leslie” used to communicate. Since “Leslie” was always in meetings and/or working on various projects she was rarely at her desk so, we would resort to communicate by email or instant messaging hoping for a quick response. “Leslie” would rarely answer emails or instant message in a timely fashion therefore making us to make the best decision we thought possible even if it was the right one. More than a third of employees say they are handling the stress in one of the worst way possible by working harder.” (cbsnews) Companies are now working towards work/life balance in order for their employees the freedom to balance their home life and still be able to keep producing a productive product for their work.
Conclusion
For true leader to be successful these leaders should be mindful to avoid any of the above “pitfalls”. By avoiding these “pitfalls” makes for a leader that will have a positive and productive team that will not only want to ensure the success of the team but the organization as a whole.
