Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Leadership is leading a group of people or company to reach a result or further and the organization. A leader is supposed to be an example of how all employees are expected to act and what they should be striving for. Good leaders also don’t use their position within a company to take advantage of the company and its employees. A good leader is supposed to be able to perform their job with high standards, efficiency, and honor. However, for every good leader, there are bad leaders and the worse the leader the more detrimental he or she becomes to employees and the company they run. Even before the medicine price increase, his business practices had come under scrutiny. He had acknowledged and has had criminal investigations and other claims of wrongdoing made against him. He has run into problems at both a hedge fund he once controlled and has also had other problems at a company called Retrophin another pharmaceutical company he ran and from which he was replaced and later sued by. He also lacked some of the essential qualities of a good leader those being empathy, humility, experience, and general interest in truly leading a company altogether. Martin Shkreli is the epitome of a bad leader. Firstly, he had a major lack of experience in both leadership and the basis of the company he was running. Most successful CEOs have a deep experience and truly understand the products that they are selling. However, Martin Shkreli had no such experience his major qualifications was a business degree and only major experience was running hedge funds which he had got in trouble with the law. Martin lack of experience and knowledge in the field medicine as well running business overall was a strong indicator of his poor leadership. As a leader, especially of a company that that supposed to be treating life-threatening diseases if you start to hold money or your job higher than human lives than in my opinion you are simply unfit to lead. Martin Shkreli has shown to be both an uncaring leader and an ignorant leader. He the type of leader who is uncaring or unkind. The type of leader that ignores or discounts the wants, needs, and wishes of most members of the group or organization. He also the type of leader that disregards problems or irregularities within a company. Shkreli ignores the well-being and overall stability of the company due to lack of either focus or care. Having an extreme lack of experience in his field also doesn 't help either, not being able to run a company, changing the price of the life-saving drug over 50-fold and using some the worse PR maneuvering to try to fix the problem are still only the tip of the iceberg for Shkreli. Although raising the price of an HIV drug to astronomical prices is bad it 's technically not illegal but eventually, he went into the corruption territory as well. Shkreli was arrested by the FBI on securities fraud charges. The charges were filed after an investigation into his tenure at MSMB Capital Management and Retrophin. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. While he is clearly a very wise investor, Warren Buffett is also a successful leader. Leadership is something that is heavily prevalent in the workforce and in the world today. Being a leader, in my opinion, takes someone (or a group of people) who is willing and able to lead a few or many people. Not every leader though is successful or leads in a positive way. There definitely exists both good and bad leadership. Many leaders fail while many achieve extraordinary milestones. But everyone, not just leaders, have their pitfalls and rough patches in life. I know that I myself have some weaknesses as a leader, and that is what I want to take some time to reflect on.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
Leadership and management are two fundamental concepts which are involved in the effective management of organizations. Leadership in my opinion is a complex concept, which includes association of human qualities and the result of their activities. To be a great leader means not only following own visions, but also work towards company’s goals.
