Student development and learning is critical for the future. The growing demands and importance of the skills necessary for our students to effectively function as future leaders of our society guides us to extend support from the community and parents. According to Shatkin and
Gershburg (2007) the purpose of school-community relations have important factors that can benefit one another (Shatkin & Gershburg, 2007, p. 589). As a teacher leader, the role of the community and parents for student development and learning will be utilized by encouraging them to become active participants in the lives of the students. I will train parents how to actively engage students while they read to them. Also, I would share to parents how they can interact with their children at home. Parents would earn incentives by reading the highest total of books to classes. The trainings will be throughout the school year once a month. Teachers would know in advance the designated days and time for the readings so their schedules won’t be interrupted. According to
Comer (2005) parent participation is important and highly appreciated in today’s society (Comer,
2005, p. 39). As a teacher leader, I’m obligated to include parents in their children’s education so they will be reminded how valuable they are to all students’ development and learning.
As a teacher leader, I want school-community relationships amongst educators, students, community members and parents. Schools and school districts can’t only expect for community members and parents to give their monetary resources and time to help students. As a teacher leader, I want us to help each other. What can educators and students do for the community and parents? Bludau (2006) defines community service as helping others in the community in

Service learning involves service projects that is beneficial to all participants through their experiences (Bludau, 2006, p. 23). The service project which involves students entertaining senior citizens will teach students responsibility and how to show what they are learning. Also, many students may decide what careers they may want to pursue in the

...e have to lead teachers, but we must also lead students, parents, and community members. Part of exercising the firs practice will be constantly bringing back to my teachers, students, parents, and community members our shared value of educating students. The last practice, encouraging the heart, is also something that I apply in my setting daily. Most stakeholders in the educational process contribute so much to the process and it is imparitive to continue to recognize the work that they do. With continued reflection, it is clear that great educational leaders do, in fact, model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.
She sites from a 2004 MetLife survey, (Gibb, 2005, p.44) that 90% of new teachers agree that involving parents in their children’s education is a priority, however only 25% described their experience working with parents as “very satisfying”. In fact 31% of the teachers cited involving and communicating with parents as the biggest challenge they face. The vast majority of teachers in the survey felt too many parents treat schools and teachers as adversaries.
As a school administrator it is important to be a motivator for the teachers that
It is my belief that anyone with a desire to change the world would be fortunate to work in education. By sharing my vision with others, and building upon my skills while seeking constant growth, I strive to take an approach to leadership that fosters an effective, nurturing educational environment for the entire school community. By creating this type of environment, as well as through embracing and enhancing my leadership strengths, it is my goal to contribute to society by inspiring people to become better not only as teachers and students, but as compassionate human beings.
...nd that these teacher leaders had similar teaching strategies and techniques that were focused on student learning, student motivation, and student engagement. These teachers provided quality instruction through careful planning and considered each student’s learning style. Lessons and instruction was integrated across the curriculum. The teachers incorporated technology to expose students to a variety of concepts and tools for learning development, which allowed an equitable learning opportunity for all. Although learning was a focus for effective teaching, I have found that teacher leaders have sound structural framework in management, organization, and discipline. It is easy to see that teacher leaders are successful in effective teaching, maintaining focus of students, and student monitoring progress, because of clear goals and high expectations of all students
Successful teachers develop the whole child by making integrated efforts to promote their student’s academic, social and emotional learning. Children need to be aware of themselves and others; make responsible decisions, and be ethical and respectful of the people around them.
In conclusion, us teachers must find ways to reach the minds of every individual by allowing them to express themselves and understand every lesson taught. My goal as a teacher is to provide to in each and every student with the necessary skills and knowledge so they could succeed on their own. I want to leave a memory of myself as a teacher who was not afraid to roll up the sleeves to help another student in any way and influenced others to do the right thing. My colleagues recall me a teacher who regularly participates and who was active to contribute assistance to the school community.
...them to succeed in the classroom. Although the look of the classroom has changed over the years, one thing still remains: teachers are the number one factor in a student’s educational experience.
Parental involvement promotes the social growth of a child. Children whose parents are involved in their education have many advantages. They have better grades, test scores, long-term academic achievement, attitudes and behavior than those with disinterested mothers and fathers (Gestwicki, 2001). Parents becoming involved in their child's schooling creates extra sources of social constraint to influence the child's behavior (McNeal, 2001). For example, parents talking to their children and becoming involved in the school conveys a message to the child of education being important. Parents should be talking with your children's teacher and letting her know about your family. The more she knows about your child, the better she will be able to connect with your child.
Education is a very important aspect in the life of a child. The level of success a student has in the classroom is greatly influenced by their teachers. Students, as well as their parents, depend on the teachers to guide them through their education. But who guides a teacher to perform successfully in the classroom? Principals and teachers play an important role in schools. A good relationship among school leaders and teachers is necessary and play an important role in making improvements in the school. Leadership refers to the “process in which one person successfully exerts influence over others to reach desired objectives”. (Okoji, 2015) Good leadership involves honesty, vision, confidence and commitment. It is the ability to inspire a
In the reading it brings up how most parents are only contacted by the school when it is something bad. This is not how it should be. Teachers should be sending home good news notes to the parents praising the students for their hard work in the class. Schools also need to be welcoming to the families and provide workshops to assist in the parent’s knowledge to allow them to help their children with their schoolwork. Having the parents involved and aware of the things that are going on in the classroom and the school are great ways to build that relationship and to enhance the student’s academic achievement and
Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
Another important social contribution made by teachers to society is the aspect of leadership and guidance (Singh and Samiti). Teachers are perhaps, the best examples of guiders and leaders in a community. As such, teachers demonstrate to the society how a dynamic leader should behave and act (Collay 32). Apart from being...
