Recommended: Relationship between school and the community

Student development and learning is critical for the future. The growing demands and importance of the skills necessary for our students to effectively function as future leaders of our society guides us to extend support from the community and parents. According to Shatkin and
Gershburg (2007) the purpose of school-community relations have important factors that can benefit one another (Shatkin & Gershburg, 2007, p. 589). As a teacher leader, the role of the community and parents for student development and learning will be utilized by encouraging them to become active participants in the lives of the students. As a teacher leader, the support of the community and parents will cause students to experience a well-balanced education. …show more content…

I will train parents how to actively engage students while they read to them. Also, I would share to parents how they can interact with their children at home. Parents would earn incentives by reading the highest total of books to classes. The trainings will be throughout the school year once a month. Teachers would know in advance the designated days and time for the readings so their schedules won’t be interrupted. According to
Comer (2005) parent participation is important and highly appreciated in today’s society (Comer,
2005, p. 39). As a teacher leader, I’m obligated to include parents in their children’s education so they will be reminded how valuable they are to all students’ development and learning.

As a teacher leader, I want school-community relationships amongst educators, students, community members and parents. Schools and school districts can’t only expect for community members and parents to give their monetary resources and time to help students. As a teacher leader, I want us to help each other.
