I am going to die before I finish this! A lot of people have trouble writing papers and often think that saying. But, there are certain things one must follow to write a proper paper. There are steps to make writing a paper much easier. The writing process and basic structure of an essay help create a proper paper for school such as an Investigative Research Paper. Without doing the proper process to do a paper, one may find themselves having difficulties writing the paper. The writing process described by the Survival textbook and prescribed by Wisconsin Lutheran High School is a good go to for writing papers. Survival actually recommends it. This writing process is a step by step process while at the same time a recursive process. Survival’s …show more content…
The planning phase includes different steps. Those steps would include: discovering a subject, narrowing the subject to a topic, researching the topic, writing a thesis, and developing an outline. Additionally, there is the writing phase. The writing phase will be the first writing to be revised, corrected, and retyped. This format is called a draft, and any other version would also be called a draft. The other names for these drafts are second draft, revised draft, and final draft. The writing process has a step by process which is drafting, revising, receiving back, and rewriting. However, one should know that when using a computer, it is easy to just fix little things and continuing editing it, which really is not a new draft. According to Survival, “For the sake of definition, therefore, you can say that a draft is produced each time you actually print a new version of your paper or retype it or write it over with pen or pencil.” First draft procedures are simple. First one needs to acquire a quiet place to sit, rather it be …show more content…
I did plan out my Investigative Research Paper. Planning was the first thing I did after picking my topic. First let me explain why and how I picked my topic. To pick my topic I decided to look up popular research topics. Once I came across a certain topic, which was cyberbullying I immediately wanted to do that topic. The reason for this because of a movie I had seen about a girl who was bullied and tried to commit suicide. After picking my topic I started making my notes on the different websites I had searched “Is cyberbullying worse than face to face bullying.” I made an outline draft type of note page along with some note cards. This made writing the paper go more smoothly and it made it better for my time management. With there being what exactly I would talk about on note cards, all I had to do was put them into sentences. I did follow the basic structure of an essay. My introduction came first and included the opening sentences and thesis statement. For my opening sentence I used a quote and in my thesis I described what I was going to write about in my paper. Next, I did my body paragraphs. They explained my topics that I have in my thesis. After that came my conclusion which started out with my restatement thesis and did summarize my body paragraphs. In my paper there are interviews that I conducted with friends or family that had been bullied in
First you need to decide what form your paper is going to take, then decide what the topic will be about. I decided to do a rhetorical analysis of a song, which I knew very well. Then thought what I could do with the lyrics to make it into a paper that people would
Writing a college paper, document, or thesis will always revolve around a theme or a set of questions that need to be answered. How that paper is developed depends on the process used by the author as there are many different ways to approach a written assignment. The article by Catherine Savini, “Looking for Trouble: Finding your way into a writing assignment”, essentially tells us that in order to write an informational paper we must first look for the problem, detail questions related to the problem, and then try to provide some type of answer for the questions.
When approaching your paper, you must consider what your writing situation is. That will help you identify who your readers will be and why they would read your paper. Once you understand that you can start generating ideas and topics that you would like to write about. To generate ideas about your paper you can brainstorm, free write, and cluster ideas as they come to you. Then, when you have your ideas written down you can refine your topic and start to develop a research question. At that same time, you can start to read, evaluate, and collect the information you have found. It is also a good time to take notes or highlight what you think is important and begin to take a position. Next, you can start organizing your argument, sources,
The process of writing papers can be very frustrating. You must first get your ideas together. Getting your ideas together can be one of the hardest parts of writing because you could possibly not know what di...
This year in College Writing one has been very interesting. I understand now that there is a lot more that goes into writing a paper than I first thought. I especially realize this when I look back at one of my first papers which was the descriptive essay titled, "The Hidden Truth."

Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Anne Lamott, Shirley Rose, and Kathleen Yancey all drew attention to major points through their writing pieces that support and dispute my writing process. Through their pieces they have found a way to inspire, inform, and entertain me all at the same time while passing along great information that
First of all I sit down where I can really concentrate on my topic, and I make outlines. I
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
Writing papers has been one of my biggest fears as a student. High school English class prepared me for the editing of my essays, for example, grammatical errors, spelling, font errors, and things that were under the category of fixing my paper. I realized that the writing process requires more than just editing, you have to understand that the paper is like a human body, it cannot function if every single part is not effective. I can certainly say that I have improved as a writer a great deal and this portfolio and the final revised drafts of my work certainly can argue for that. English 101 was certainly different from my other English classes; we actually focused on different parts of the writing process in each class instead of wasting our time discussing the same components of the process over and over again. As I reflect on my experiences throughout the semester of English 101 I am aware that I have met very important requirements of writing that I feel were very valuable for me as a student and my writing has improved progressively.

In conclusion, my experiences with formal writing and research papers led me from one failed attempt to the next. These experiences made room for detached feeling towards writing. I then realized the root of my writers block was my issue with Research papers. I have final gained my confidence back and ready to complete this hurdle, making me one step closer to my degree.
Habits of the Creative Minds is a simple textbook with a particular twist. I began reading the book thinking it was going to be a basic textbook, but the author,Richard E. Miller and Ann Jurecic, changed the tone of the book and put it into a metaphor. This metaphor was about the reader in your writing, or for anyone reading should feel like Alice in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The reader should be reading, and figuratively fall into the reading, by this the authors means the reader should not want to put that book down. They should be engulfed in the book and read from cover to cover. The attention must be maintained and the best way to do this is by making the writing unique. The authors of this book puts
When writing this paper make sure you have the introduction, thesis statement, support paragraphs and conclusion. The introduction is the very first paragraph. Your introduction should at least accomplish two things it should declare your argument and it should place your argument within the larger on going conservation about your topic. “Summarizing what other scholars have said about their topic ad then they will declare what they are adding to the conservation” (Anonymous, What is An Academic Paper?, 2014, p. 5).
In the past, I used to start writing an essay without writing an outline. I even did not brainstorm before I began to write. As a result, my essays were undoubtedly messy and disorganized. For instance, after I finished writing my Paper 2, I asked my professor for suggestions. He advised me to rearrange the order of paragraphs since my essay was disorganized and disordered. At that moment, I finally realized that if I did not plan out what I was going to write, my essay would be less likely to be logical because outline is like a base and foundation of an article. Hence, I started writing an outline from then on. For example, I nowadays would like to write my thesis statement down first. After that, I will briefly write down what I will talk about in body paragraphs. After using pre-writing skills and techniques, I notice that my essays are much more organized; and thus, my essays are no...
