In today’s world, where demand for the skilled workforce has increased considerably, it has become critical for everyone to sharpen soft skills along with technical knowledge and expertise. With the changing demands, expectation of business enterprise with workforce is also changing. And to meet the ever increasing demand and expectation of business enterprise, the workforce has left with no choice but to be equipped with sound knowledge of soft skills in combination with hard skills before entering the job market. There is infinite growth in well-paying job opportunities due to liberalization, privatization, and globalization. However, an infinite number of fresh graduates are produced every year, but there is a lack of employable graduates since the focus is always on technical knowledge and expertise. Therefore, before going further in the discussion it is necessary to understand the difference between the two. Hard skills refer to an individual’s IQ i.e. Intelligence Quotient. These skills are easy to teach, recognize, and measure by taking test or examination. Hard skills are the specific skills that are used on specific jobs. Some examples of hard skills are technical expertise, degrees, certifications, job titles and so on.
The word soft skill is a socio-psychological term referring EQ i.e. Emotional Intelligence Quotient of a person. These skills are also known as interpersonal skills, life skills, people skills, employable skills and behavioral skills. Soft skills include the set of personality talents, self-management skills, communication skills, work attitude, emotional intelligence skills and so on. The study suggests that hard skills contribute only 15% to one’s success while remaining 85% success is ensured by soft skills.
WHY ARE SOFT SKILLS A NEED FOR
There are literally hundreds of desirable traits in the workplace. Of these, one of the arguably most important is to be well-rounded in the workplace. Many skills can assist an individual in being a well-rounded employee. Oral communication skills, written communication skills, teamwork, technical skills, leadership skills, adaptation skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills and analytic abilities are some of the key factors to a well-rounded employee. While these skills all seem to be of equal ability to the well-rounded employee, the scope of this paper will only delve into a few of the skills preceding. Technical skills, oral communication skills and leadership skills will all be detailed in this review in an attempt to help you (the reader) become a well-rounded employee.
As I have noted, I truly believe that the numerous job skills that are needed to be successful include dedication, communication, and adaptation. First of all, you must be devoted to your career if you want exemplary results. Equally important, being able to articulate your ideas, and intellectually communicate said ideas will ensure a successful time at you occupation. Last but not least, in order to be successful in your employment, you must be flexible to the obstacles that are inevitable. I urge you to strive to obtain these essential job skills because they are worthwhile.
Then there is Intra-personal intelligence. Typical skills associated with this is the abillity to identify ones own needs on a deeper emotional level, identify personal motivations, and use these to dictate ones own life. These people can do most jobs with few restrictions and with little difficulty.
What qualifies a person to be categorized as a "hard worker". He/She would have to be willing to do the work, and not only do it, but do it right. According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses.
