Isn’t it funny how everybody wants to be a leader or president or any kind of authority position? Well, I think that being one gives a lot of responsibility to someone, and not anyone is able to carry that kind of burden. People usually dream about having a lot of power and control, but they usually don’t realize that with the big power comes the big responsibility. To begin with, there are a lot of traits that the leader should have in order to be a good one. It is very hard to say which trait is the most important thing to have as a leader. But, in my opinion, integrity is definitelly one. Consequently, it is impossible to be a great leader if you don’t have a quality to be honest and to have strong moral principle. Moreover, great leader establishes the confidence with his clear ideas, emphaty, vision, and someone who is known as a ‘’person to follow’’. Sometimes can be difficult to find the balance between showing confidence and forcefull personality, and being kind and generous. So this could definitely be good formula for confidence trait. People love confidence. It’s in your body language, in your eyes and your personality. It is really hard to not notice firm trust in somebody. Consequently, being confident as a leader will result in other people’s desire to be like you, to have the same trait like you, to do things like you do. Really important …show more content…
Being reliable and responsible is super important in the role of a leader. Moreover, we all know that it’s much easier to blame other instead to hold yourself accountable for a mistake. But, as a leader, you should never blame others for your own mistakes. Consequently, we can see that this is easier said than done. The reason why a lot of leaders blame others is simply because they are in position to do so. Why would you, with that much power, blame yourself instead somebody else? This is the thing that makes great leaders from ‘’fraud’’ ones. It is important to understand that it is not only how accountable you are, but what do you do in order to correct your mistake. This next step after taking responsibility also playes a huge role in being a great
One may wonder exactly what it is that qualities a strong leader possesses. A strong leader is determined, and strong willed. They must be of good judgment, and without bias. They cannot easily be persuaded, and they are firm, yet at the same time, a good lead must also empathize with his subordinates, and have the best interest at heart for said subordinates, at all times. However, with that being said, a good leader cannot be afraid to discipline his subordinates when necessary. Unmistakably, being a leader is a very difficult feat – one which not everyone can accomplish. A leader must be an authority, a friend and a counsellor, all at once. They must be responsible, and always take into account the disadvantages of a situation. Not everyone is suitable to be a leader, whereas, just about anybody can be a good role model.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
In order for a leader to be a leader, he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able to affirmatively influence “on others”. A leader needs to “believe” in himself and have the confidence that whatever you say will excite and what you do can motivate others. You must be optimistic about what you do, to have some relevance to being in existence.
“Leaders come in every size, shape, and disposition-short, tall, neat, sloppy, young, old, male, and female” (Bennis, 2009, p. 33). Unlike Johnson (2011), Bennis (2009) proposes additional components to leadership. First, there must be a vision. A leader has to have a well-defined direction and purpose. They must understand not only the direction they will take, but also the steps to achieve the stated objectives. The vision must be articulat...
In my idea, leaders without self-confidence are not actually leaders. According to David Barrett (2010), “self-confidence is the fundamental basis from which leadership grows”. I am wondering without that conception, how leaders can influence and judge others. I want to believe in myself although I am not perfect but I would like to be confident in my leadership skills and every action I take for achieving common
Traits of a good leader are trustworthiness, respectfulness, honesty, and be stern. When you have leaders that take their role seriously, you can form a backbone to an organization that cannot be broken. You have born leaders and you have trained leaders. Martin Luther King was a natural born leader for the Civil Rights movement. King saw there was something that needed to be changed and he took the steps to change the world.
When faced with roadblocks or difficult decisions as a leader, I know that I must remain confident and retain all the qualities outlined earlier as well as countless others. Only then will I be able to effectively take action and make change in my leadership role.
I believe having confidence is an essential leadership quality to have. It provides for assured decision making and allows others to be confident too. Believing in yourself foremost sets a strong foundation to be an excellent leader. Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy”. This in particular sticks out to me due to the fact that it is so applicable to my life. It helps me realize how having confidence and faith in yourself are keys to being a great leader.
In my view most important character of a good leader is that they must be compassionate. Having a personality of caring about people is important. You can?t be a good leader unless you generally like people. That is how you bring out the best in them. No matter what credential they have and how much experience they have in administration but without being compassionate they can't ever become a responsible and successful leader. For example Hitler is known for his cruelty and he had no feelings for his own race. He failed to understand the feelings of Jews and thus persecuted them. He also failed to know the fact that the strength of his country lies in them, while opposite is Mahatma Gandhi, a major political and spiritual leader of India, followed nonviolent actions, avoiding any bloodshed in the country during their struggle for Independence. Because of his compassionate nature many leaders in today's world has looked him upon. So leader must be compassionate first without being influence by any ulterior motive.
From his article about the importance of responsibility Michael Hyatt states that, “Until you take responsibility, you are a victim. And being a victim is the exact opposite of being a leader. ”(Hyatt, 2012). The statement
A society with the absence of leadership will lead to chaos. Recently, the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died and this has caused his followers to be in disarray. Currently in Palestine the followers are trying to ameliorate life and figure who will replace Arafat. For when there is an absence of leadership it causes followers to panic. The panic of the people leads to the confusion of their everyday life. Leadership implies that a person must posses certain qualities. There are many traits that must be shown to be a good leader. If a leader is noncommittal and callow then a society will fail. However when trying to restore order in a society one person may try to accomplish it by themselves but this rarely works. When working alone or in a small group, three things can happen and lead to more disarray. These things are isolation, too much authority, and control.
Self-confidence is one of the most important qualities that determine a good leader. Self-confidence is the belief in oneself and of one’s powers and abilities. It is the attitude that people possess that allows them to have positive views and to trust their own abilities. Self-confidence is an extremely important attribute to have. Leadership is all about having the confidence to make decisions. If they are afraid to make and commit to their decisions, all of the communication and authority they have will make no difference. They need to guts to motivate others, and if they waver even slightly, their followers will start to doubt them. An example of leaders having self-confidence is the students at school who organized their own clubs. They have the courage to pitch new ideas, and are not afraid to talk to other students about it. Teachers are natural born leaders. Everyday, they have to face hundreds of students to lead them onto the correct path through learning. Without self-confidence, they will not be able to do their job.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
I have a lot of experience in many things from education, customer service so forth and to end with parenting, so I have several styles of influence, power and leadership and all of which I have used, just not in this order. To influence is the capacity of the power of a person’s things in which they may be compelling force or able to produce effects and actions. Power means the ability to act or the capability of doing to accomplish something, as in the lecture power is the ability to marshal resources. Leadership is the function or position to direct or guide a group or groups of people, or as the lecture states the process of inspiring and guiding others to participate. It is my personal opinion that with all these styles a person still needs self-management as discussed in this semester as well. You cannot have someone that may has influence, power and leadership, yet lacks self-awareness. How can they lead a pack? My previous jobs have many individuals that portrayed to be leaders whom pretended to have power that influenced us, however they lacked self-management, and all of the above.
Being in a leadership role pushes a person to be a good role model, make decisions, be fair and reliable, and to have integrity. One of the most important qualities, though, is to have commitment. If you expect your team to work hard and attain success, you will have to lead by example. There is no greater incentive than seeing the person in charge working right alongside everyone else, where the work is being done on every level. By proving your commitment to the overall goals and to your own role, you will not only earn the respect and admiration of your team, but you will also encourage that same hardworking energy among your staff. It’s key to show your commitment not only to the existing goal, but also to your promises. In keeping your word, you want to create a reputation for not just being perseverant, but also be known as a fair leader. Once you have gained the respect of your team, they are more likely to put in the amount of work it will take to reach the ending goal.
