For my project, I have selected the project is the College Democrats Club, this club was chosen because of how active they are in the area, both inside and outside of Creighton. This club has regular meetings of at least once a week along with additional meetings with state representatives and other local political figures. Their goal is to provide students with an outlet to become knowledgeable and informed voters who are able to educate and create and environment based off of democratic values. Due to their activity in the communities they will be a prime community to map and will be able to provide the information for this project needed with great ease. I feel this is an appropriate community because of its ease of accessibility, agreed …show more content…
political views, and the new experience a political would be able to offer. This community was chosen because of how easily accessibly it would be.
They meet regularly and have consistent communication amongst its students and its leaders. These weekly meetings occur on Wednesdays, every week at 6. During this time, they call in different people from the community to communicate. Going to these meetings regularly helps to access the community on a deeper level. I joined this community during Skutt shutdown, which allowed me full access to the communities meeting times and all other additional information. The community meets in Eppley 210, their first meeting was held in in 212, yet this was a temporary set up and therefore I did not record any information regarding the set up and lay out of the community. After interviewing the executive team, I was able to understand their view from the front of the community, the interview consisted of a short 5 questions asking about lay out of space, use of technology and any observations they had about the communities use of the space. I chose this route of questions because I feel they gave the executive a chance to look at the group a little more analytically and describe their approach to creating the space they desire. I felt it important to ask about technology because of the feel of how technology can impact some groups interactions. During the latest meeting, they even used technology to allow us to call our senators about the new Obama Care Repeal Act going through the senate right
now. To capture how the language of the group I videotaped, after permission the interview with all the executives. During the interview, you will hear the executives bantering back and forth with each other while also agreeing and adding to each other’s points, this basically gave me a glimpse into the world of the club that is not as visible during a regular meeting. During the meetings, there is a lot of discourse, yet it is early in the year so many are too shy to speak up or add to the discussion. To further add to my collection of information on this club, I plan on recording a snippet of discussion during a meeting to further be able to analyze the groups way of language and communication. I have so many questions and concerns about this project, but it mostly comes down to if I will have enough time to complete this project. I have already been to two of the club’s meetings, allowing for a good inside look into the community’s language, use of space and other key components of this project, yet I still worry I do not have enough information and may want or need a fourth interaction with the group and I am concerned that will happen. I am currently staying on top of it the best that I can. Additionally, I am concerned about doing this project right, I feel less concerned about this one, because I know first drafts will pick through a lot of the major problems and in turn make my paper as good as can be. This is rather comforting, yet I would like to be able to get it right on the first try as best as possible, as I am unsure of many things I am doing still.
I believe the purpose of the Team serve more of a collaborative effort to view all the different elements that might have been identified in the session or what was missed in the session that had not been brought out or discovered. I believe that the reflected team was effective because each individual on the team has conceptualize the session from many different shared perspective based on their individual concepts. The individual concepts are explored and collaborated, creating a wide angle lens of the session pointing out different elements about the client. The reflecting team aim is to take exploratory exploration of the session to get a useful understanding that relates to the different elements
Humans are social beings, and thus they need to keep communicating from time to time. These communications makes it easier for communities to engage in a given discipline to address an impeding challenge. Nevertheless, coordinating a large group of individuals proves to be a daunting task with many having mixed responses and motivations. In response to this, committees are set up to address a particular issue arising in the community.
In an organization, goals affect the effectiveness of individuals, teams, and organizations. Teams exist within the organization, and individual and organizational goals influence the definition and achievement of team goals. Hermann (1991) argues that explicit goals and objectives are prerequisites for group collaboration. In the team must clearly define the team's goals, so that team member’s personal goals and team goals consistent, this is the team existence and development of the premise. This requires better personal, team, and organizational goals, and enhances the cohesion of team members. First, we must strive to cultivate the spirit of mutual trust between team members,
The small in-class groups were composed of social work graduate students taking Advanced Groups class. Our in-class small groups represented formed groups because we came together “through some outside influence or intervention.... for a particular purpose” (Toseland & Rivas, 2012, p. 13). The purpose of our groups which “identifies the reasons for bringing members together” (Toseland & Rivas, 2012, p. 13) was to accomplish a task assigned to us by our professor. I participated in several task groups, where “the overriding purpose is to accomplish a goal that is neither intrinsically nor immediately linked to the needs of the members of the group” (Toseland & Rivas, 2012, p. 13).
To have a successful team you will need in place of an effective group. The main ingredients for an organization is to have a successful team. To accomplish a successful team it comes with a lot of planning, innovating and having a positive attitude. Many people have been place in groups and haven’t comply with the rules and instructions. That is what makes a team ineffective. Managers experience difficulties when handle a self-directed and high performing team. Having the right idea and the wrong plan causes a team to be dysfunctional. Knowing what you want to do is the whole purpose of the team. Managers experience lack of communication and showing little effort in the participation of a team. As a team leader the main aspect is to make
The second semester with my team has shown growth and development individually and as a team. We have all shown development in certain areas, and have come together to produce high quality results. My team members have shown more dependability and focus on finishing assignments and wanting to be the best group.
Conflict is unavoidable at times, and has to be dealt with sooner or later. Especially while working as a team, a difference in opinion is normal. Every person is entitled to have his/her own opinion, and one should respect each other’s believes as well. However, most of the times, when one works in a team; everyone needs to reach an agreement. This is where conflict usually arises. Some people tend to hold strong opinions and beliefs, and aren’t flexible about them. A good team leader should have the skills to deal with conflicts that arise in teams, and should work constructively in managing them; while achieving their team goals.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
The meeting was held on Saturday at 6pm at the Welborne United Methodist Church, 920 Maybeaury Drive Richmond VA 23229 at Patterson Avenue, which is 5.1 miles away from my house. The meeting was titled “Living in the Solution.” I utilized the Metro Richmond Narcotics Anonymous website http://metrorichna.org/drupal/. I chose this meeting because it was near my home and the timing was convenient. I knew that I wanted to attend a meeting during the April 23rd weekend. When I realized that “Living Solutions” was in a neighborhood that I was familiar with, I felt more comfortable about attending. I also wanted to go to a meeting before the sunset, so at 4pm I decided to go the 6pm meeting.
Having a good leadership for a team allows the whole team to work efficiently and in a well-organized way. Further, leadership is an important function of management which helps to maximize efficiency and to achieve organizational goals. Since I am a leader for this week, I asked several questions to my group members in order to get specific feedback for my performances. First, my team members said that I am deeply engaging with them and can be reached all the time. I replied all the emails and text messages as soon as I can so that I could figure out all the problems and time conflicts that our team faced to. Also, my group members respond to my leadership as effectively and efficiently. I set up several goals at the beginning of our group discussion, and then allocate different works to each member depended on its interest and ability. Besides that, I also set up the time limit for the group in order to have enough time for me to make the final check and corrections. Therefore, we have a good plan for the whole project and finish it perfectly. However, it is my responsibility to make sure the entire team complete the project on time; I might push my group
During our group activity we discussed how to write a proper objective and what we can do to improve our rough drafts. The hardest part of this challenge for the group members were determining how to correctly develop an objective for their proposal. The easiest part of this challenge for the group was figuring out where we messed up on in our rough draft to our proposal.
Community planning and discussions platforms are open, multipurpose occasions enduring a few hours. A three-stage arrangement is intended to secure data, produce thoughts and make communication between vested parties with at least development arranging. The configuration joins intelligent shows, an open community, workshops and casual organising. Key fixings are a hand-out promoting the occasion, a method for conveying it, a venue and a facilitator (Blake, and Diamond, et al. 2008). The above mentioned polices are currently in practice for enhancing community engagement and also helps in encouraging the ethnic groups from participating in the community
In the team project this semester, I intend to contribute to the success of the team in designing, building, and operating a method for dispensing the rings into the boxes and writing functional code for the robot. I am intrigued by the design of a ring dispensing method. In the robot competition last semester, I noticed a certain flaw in most of the robots which dispensed rings. The flaw was that they all used a servo to deliver the ring. If the robot did not properly line up with the box the ring would not land inside of the box. In order to solve this problem, I devised a way for the rings to be dispensed without the need of a servo. By not using a servo, the ring dispensing has to be triggered by the robot lining up with the box
The group I attended was Weight Watchers, its purpose is to provide support and resources to members looking to lead healthier lives and lose weight. It is a health based self-help group, facilitated by a member who has had success on the Weight Watcher’s program (Kurtz, 2004). All meetings are open and information regarding times and locations can be easily found on their website. Weight Watchers offers individuals to attend the first meeting for free. After which, participation is on a paid basis and varies depending on the plan purchased. In addition, Weight Watchers also supports an online forum, as well as a telephone application, to support members that “are not able or willing to travel to the sites they meet” (Kurtz, 2004)
Roles in the group have changed so much for me and so much for my group members throughout the semester. I thought that when we started going through the stages in our group, the role that we got was going to be the role we will have for the rest of the school semester. But that wasn’t true at all since I found myself changing roles more than once. I found myself fluctuating from being the initiator-contributor, elaborator, and energizer in the group task roles. It was very obvious when I would change from one group task to to another because the characteristics for every role are different and you start acting very different. Some maintenance group roles that I have experienced throughout my time in my group was to be the encourager-supporter,
