Roles in the group have changed so much for me and so much for my group members throughout the semester. I thought that when we started going through the stages in our group, the role that we got was going to be the role we will have for the rest of the school semester. But that wasn’t true at all since I found myself changing roles more than once. I found myself fluctuating from being the initiator-contributor, elaborator, and energizer in the group task roles. It was very obvious when I would change from one group task to to another because the characteristics for every role are different and you start acting very different. I believe that we worked so much better in the first group project we had because we all started slacking in this project and didn 't get to work on the project in a timely manner. I know time management is hard, and we where able to find a way through it in the first project, but in this second group project the slackers in the group started to show and failed to meet my group expectations. In this group project there was an uneven distribution of workload and certain individual behaviors that brought out group moral down affecting our success. There was no time for all of us to meet up at once and get the work done that really affected the communication climate because of the lack of support and engagement by group members. Our group’s climate has always been good since we started to be a group in the begging of the class but a we got into our second project it started to get tense in our group climate. I have to admit Daniel is a very hard worker and he was the one to get most of the work done and I felt as if we were unfair to him by noting in a a lot of work not this project. He would always attend group meeting since we started this group since he wanted to screed in the class. The very first in class activity we did was the Myers Briggs personality test that helped me see what type of person I am and in what ways I communicate better. Some other reflection assignments that made me learn about myself, for example were the work style assessment, argument style assessment, and classroom norms. The work style assessment made me learn about myself and in how I manage work and I have used what I found ever since at work and in my groups. The group style assessment that we did in class and at home helped me se how I deal with argument and my conflict style. A very informative and fun in class activity that we had was the classroom norms that mad bus learn that we expect of others in our classroom and ho we should act in our classrooms which have been very helpful. I became aware of many behaviors that I want aware of before that impacted my groups success. As a student, practice is crucial to learn group therapy techniques. In order to achieve these practices, I attended 2 support groups of the same topic. Observation and attendance constructs an idea of how group therapy works. Attending this group was important because of the profoundness of its meaning and experiences I have witnessed.

I would really like to work together again but there are some aspects I would like to be changed which will improve to make our group even more successful. First, making plan of actions and creating deadlines, so everyone will be a little bit more responsible. Second, change cultural issue to being late to every meeting, as waiting to others can be disturbing and irritating. The last thing is suggestion to be more open and not being shy to display thoughts and opinions openly, which might make solutions proposed more creative. Every group member had her/his own place, duty and ready to display help if something was wrong or misunderstood. First, the key to a fair and successful group work is communication. Although Natalie only contribute to the bare minimum in the group project such as participating minimally in discussion, writing, and planning, Greg and his group members failed to provide any thorough confrontation and communication, the result became damaging to the team work for the project. For Greg and his team members, their flaw was acknowledging to confront Natalie with her poor performance. Secondly, since there was no clear information provided about why Natalie performed poorly in the project, we can only assume that she did “the best she could”. The group couldn't seem to find time for us to meet and plan our presentation, the first and only time all group members were present to work on the presentation was on the morning of the presentation. We worked on it and at the time I believed we had agreed on our final product, I personally felt all the slides needed at this point was editing and final touches to make it visually appealing for the audience. I went online to the google presentation we were using as a group to prepare our presentation and was surprised to see a different layout, additional slides, and contents which were different from what we as a group had worked on and approved as the final work we were going to present. When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. In order to evaluate my role within the group it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed.
At First, we are working well on roles. For example, in our five people group that three boys are the “Maintenance roles” which defined as “a group’s social atmosphere” (98). To be more specific, they will contact group members before group meetings to make sure that everyone finish their own parts. They are more socialize and always contact. On the other hand, two girls were more like “task roles” and “they help accomplish a group’s task.” (98). We always check our group work deadline. I work well in group situations. I always try to encourage all members to participate and contribute. It is interesting to note that in most situations, I tend to be one of the group leaders. I do have a strong personality. Yet I try not to come across as controlling or bossy.
This is a support group for Verrado members who are fighting breast cancer, or for those who are breast cancer survivors. Everyone in this group has been through this on some level, whether she/he was/is going through Chemo, radiation, mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, or lumpectomy.
Our group has worked together pretty well during the entirety of the semester. We are fortunate to have the ability to work well together and compromise, without arguing. The red group is always open for new ideas and ways that we can improve. Emily has definitely been our leader through the whole project, however we all took on different leadership styles. Emily has been a democratic leader from day one, she takes charge but she let’s us do our own thing.
It is easy to see that there are many ways in which teachers can use the different roles that emerge in a classroom environment to the benefit of learning. The teacher has to bear in mind the importance of assessing those roles and reflecting upon their influence on group dynamics and the ways in which they can be used to enhance learning.
I’m tired, a little stressed and disappointed with some of the group members this week. This has been the most challenging time in group so far. Everything is usually fine, but something is off this week. Although, we have group chats, our group cohesion is off. After, deciding to do the outline one way, we ended up doing it another way. That was cool until individuals brought the confusion. One person thought this way, the other thought that way. It was a mess. Our group dynamics were all over the place. The impact this had on me was very negative. With your help Mrs. Evans, we eventually decided to keep the outline simple. The other group members picked their duties, while mine were assigned to me. It did not bother me that I was assigned duties. Actually, my absence from the meeting helped to decide what I was to do. When it comes to the norming and forming of this group, I find myself at a loss for words. The norming process is off. There is less cohesion than usual; we have not been as effect this week. Also, relationships do not seem to be strengthening. This makes me angry because it affects us all. Unlike the norming stage, the forming stage is pretty solid. All of us are comfortable (in my opinion) giving our opinions, and we understand what is required of us. There is no need to form rules they are already in place. In my opinion, some of the members did not follow the rules. I for one broke a rule.
In order to gain some purpose while working in a group, I know it can be challenging task to do because every group member is required to agree and cooperate. I am privileged to become a part of a group and completed our task successfully. Our group consists of 5 members and we experienced the stages of group development along with which different roles being considered. In reflection on my learning experience in the group class, I have gained clarity on what sorts of competencies of facilitating group therapy, as well as in what areas social workers and students tend to feel most strong in my practice. Regarding my specific gains in competencies, I feel that I learned the most and was most likely to gain specific group facilitating competencies at the weekly class.
