The case study presents a complicated dilemma involving a supervisor and two employees. Hubert Johnson the department head of a particular company has been faced with unpleasant task of choosing between two well qualified employees, Neil and Harriet for a supervisory position. The current business that all three people work at has begun to fail and a reduction in workforce put into effect, it has become a priority for Hubert Johnson to pick a person that he believes best fits the job. The issue here is that Hubert prefers Neil over Harriet for the supervisory position. As stated in the case study, Harriet has been with the company for 15 years, she has always been cooperative, loyal, and trustworthy but no fit for a supervisory position, on the other hand Neil is energetic, ambitious …show more content…

Giving Neil and Harriet the same appraisal score has made the task of choosing a qualified person a very difficult dilemma. Not choosing the right person for the job can actually put the company in even more jeopardy of closing down. According to the study case, the company is obligated to give the job to the person who has been there the longest, but the according to Hubert’s opinion Harriet who is the senior employee is not qualified for the job. I think logically Hubert needs to pick Neil since he is the efficient worker of the two, with his characteristics and capabilities he will be able to work hard and keep the company from shutting down while they are in their unpleasant period of transition. Hubert will need to rely on his moral compass to determine what is best for the future of the company. Hubert needs to do what is best for the future of the company which doesn’t necessarily mean firing anyone. If he wanted to solidify his choice for the supervisor position, he could conduct an interview specifically for that position so that then he could get a more concrete decision documented on
