As the former president of Harvard University, Derek Bok wrote “The most obvious purpose of college education is to help students acquire information and knowledge by acquainting them with facts, theories, generalizations, principles, and the like. This purpose scarcely requires justification.” America needs educated citizens to help maintain the level of intelligence we have in society. The first participant, however did mention so early issues with placement and communication with education professionals. I feel several factors contribute to these issues, one being that the child is older, and has been in the school system longer. Also, the family has moved several times because of placement assignments (military) and thus, the child has had more experiences with different school systems and educational professionals. Lastly, the participant lives out of state and may have felt more comfortable expressing issues openly rather than the other participants who live in the same community as myself, and may have not felt as comfortable discussing negative
Education is fundamental in today’s society. It has become a sought after medium for attaining success. Many careers have set specific educational requirements for a person to even be considered for employment. The education that one receives can be achieved through different types of institutes. Many parents face the conundrum of sending their children to the right institution that will aid in their child’s future success. The choices seem to be in abundance but many people find themselves limited to a short list of obtainable institutions. The parents have a great deal of things that need to be thought through. This may require factors that have to be considered. Some of the factors include the following: curriculum, class sizes, cost and school’s quality but these are some questions that stand out. Does the type of school really help performance? Are there factors that hinder one type of institution from thriving? These decisions are crucial and, for the most part, will determine the type of institution the child will receive his or hers knowledge from.
It is important for school counselors to serve parents and also protect the needs of the child. A liberal arts education is a term used to sum up a broad learning style. There is more to taking classes in college rather than your majors courses. The importance of a liberal arts education is coming more and more profound in today's society. Coming from a college preparatory high school a these courses rarely were spoken of. When I starting my classes and realized they were liberal arts courses I noticed a lot more was happening in class. I noticed the lessons I was being taught had complexity and was not set on my criminal justice degree. Prior to attending college I had no stance on whether a liberal arts education in schools. After my brief three weeks I have a firm idea on the role this form of education should have on college students. The liberal arts education should be taken such as elective courses are taken. This states that they are required to obtain a degree, yet they are not the main focus of one's studies.
When we talk about education, we remember our teachers of elementary, middle and high school because they left their mark on our lives, and are who we truly taught things that even we , and we have to our knowledge, is that the main purpose of my philosophy educational. The basis of my educational philosophy pragmatism. The goal of education for pragmatists is the socialization of the individual and the transmission of cultural ideas of man to new generations. In this way, new generations have no need to repeat it step by step, the experiences of their ancestors (Riestra, 1970). The school must be active in developing critical thinking in the learner. This should not be a passive entity in the process of their education, you must learn to learn . The school must prepare students for this interaction with their environment that is always changing.

Hornby and Lafaele found that empowering parents during the education process was more impactful than allowing teachers and administrators to do it alone (Hornby & Lafaele, 2011) Reaching parents and teachers can be challenging for a Professional School Counselor, but there are many methods that are available to assist. According to the ASCA National Standard, actions such as setting up small group conferences, facilitating guidance curriculum, creating responsive services, making individual student planning, and using system support groups are effective ways in engaging teachers. I believe that one of the best ways to continuously empower teachers is through consultation. This constant line of communication builds trust and establishes a strong leadership rapport between the counselor and stakeholder.
IEP stands for Individualized Education Program. An IEP is a written document required for each child who is eligible to receive special education services. It is provided to a student who has been determined first to have a disability, and second, to need special education services because of that disability. An IEP is very important and should never be overlooked by anyone. The purpose of an IEP is to make sure that only students whose educational performance is affected by a disability receive special services. An individual program plan is designed to make sure that students get the kind of educational experience that they deserve; an experience that results in success. The end goals for students who are on an IEP are to be involved in
Have you heard the old adage, “It takes a village to raise a child?” Even in today’s busy world where villages are almost nonexistent and neighborhoods aren’t as closely knit as they once were, this saying holds true. The same principle applies to your child’s education—it takes more than a good school to educate children, just as takes more than a good home to make children well adjusted. It takes community, teachers, and it takes YOU!
