Tattoos in the Workplace The work place has always had a strict policy on tattoos and how they have even affected people from getting jobs. This is called Tattoo Discrimination and it has started to become and greater issue in the work place because more people are getting tattoos. On stapaw.com a webpage made in 2012, help provide attention to this dilemma of Tattoo Discrimination. The webpage states that, “In America, the percentage of people with tattoos is 42% for adults. Percentage of people with tattoos in Canada: 38% of adults. Percentage of people with tattoos in Ireland: 36% of adults. Percentage of people with tattoos in UK: 29% of adults.”(stapaws.com). They should change the rules of having to cover them up. There shouldn’t be discrimination to a person with them and them having a lower percentage of getting a job because they have visible tattoos. The workplace should make the dress code policy less strict and should allow for people with tattoos to have the same changes of getting the job as much as everyone else. Also on stapaw.com they list off 10 reasons why tattoos and piercings should be covered in the workplace. Four of those reasons related directly to this essay explaining the workplace’s reasons why they believe tattoos shouldn’t be allowed in the workplace. Reason number one is that they are unprofessional. The reason they think tattoos to be unprofessional is all based on things that are based on a persons characteristics not the tattoos themselves. The problem with this argument is that all the stuff to back this argument that people with tattoos and why tattoos are unprofessional is all because they comes from a stereotypes that people with tattoos are rebellious. So this argument would be false because in todays age lots of people who may have the right characteristics to fill the job requirement may have a lesser chance of getting the job just based on the fact that they have tattoo
