After participating in the learning opportunities throughout this semester, I believe I have grown as a potential supervisor in numerous ways. Upon reflecting on the readings, discussions, and activities throughout the course, my original answers to the four essential course questions would reflect the additional insight that I’ve gained relating to supervision.
What are the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor? My original response to this question recognized that supervisors have the responsibility of ensuring that duties are performed properly, that the safety of personnel is protected, and that expectations are communicated to employees. However, I now understand what managing the proficiency of employees entails in more depth.

How does a supervisor act as a teacher of teachers? My original answer stated that a supervisor acts as a teacher of teachers by observing their practice, evaluating student achievement, and providing feedback to teachers. The readings we did in our Glickman text provided me with more insight. In order to effectively support teachers in improving their instruction, supervisors must be aware of their own default supervisory style, and be capable of changing elements of their style based on the commitment, expertise, and needs of each individual teacher (Glickman, 2002, p. 44). Being a teacher of teachers includes getting to know each teacher, establishing a positive rapport with them, and planning the supervisory approach and course of action based on each teacher’s needs. How do supervisors use data to improve teaching and learning? I previously understood that data must be utilized to evaluate instruction, and improve teaching and learning. As now it can be concluded that to make a supervision session effective it is essential to have a deep understanding of these facts and theories. Supervision is an opportunity where supervisees are able to review and reflect on their work in order to do it better. Introduction What does it mean to be an effective supervisor? Before taking this class, I thought that if a supervisor is able get their employees to work effectively, and efficiently, then the person is an effective supervisor. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.

It is imperative for supervisors to focus on what is required in order for his/her employees to accomplish their job. They must be supportive of their employees and provide continual feedback on their job performance .Supervisor need to include their employees when making changes that effect they way they perform their jobs or finding new way to do things that were problematic. Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as a kid sanctioned me to perpetually become aware that I was different from my neighbors. Through some social interactions with my friends in elementary schools, I quickly descried that my appearances, such as my hair, eyes, and nose was different from my peers. For my final placement in early childhood, I was placed in a preschool classroom where my role was to showcase my skills as an educator. I took on my placement supervisor’s responsibilities and managed many of the classroom activities, circles, and meals. On the first day, I met with my placement supervisor and we went over expectations, classroom responsibilities, and curriculum planning. Her role was to supervise me at placement and be there for support but allow me to lead the classroom with the other educator. The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility.
