Don’t you love the taste of soft sugar cookies with smooth icing and sweet chocolate chips? Although there are many sweet treats we make over the holiday season, the sugar cookies we make together are by far the best. Making them is my favorite holiday tradition. The first, and most important, part of our holiday season starts with my sister, mom, and me baking the cookies. My sister and I mix together the yummy batter (while arguing a small bit). After we chill the batter, we grab our Christmas cookie cutters and spend awhile cutting out cookies together. While the last batch of cookies is in the oven baking, we clean up the mess we made while making the batter. As the cookies cool down, my mom mixes together the different icing colors for
Madelyn McQueen - Twin Falls Idaho Have you ever wondered how the delicious, classic treat came to be? Well, any event you can think of after the date of 1938, the cookie was bound to be there. Several stories about how the country’s favorite baked good came to be, have been spread and believed by thousands. For example, Ruth Wakefield unexpectedly ran out of nuts for a regular ice-cream cookie recipe and, in desperation, replaced them with chunks chopped out of a bar of Nestle bittersweet chocolate. Another story is said that the vibrations from an industrial mixer caused chocolate stored on a shelf in the Toll House kitchen to fall into a bowl of cookie dough as it was being mixed. Sadly, all of these stories are false, says Carolyn Wyman in her recently published “Great American Chocolate Chip Cookie Book.” In her book, Wyman offers a more believable version of how the cookie came to be. Wyman argues, that Ruth Wakefield, who had a degree in household arts and a reputation for perfectionism, would not have allowed her restaurant, which was famed for its desserts, to run out of such
Cookies and doughnuts are both yummy treats, but they also have their advantages and disadvantages. Cookies for instance can be produces with relative ease in any kitchen using flour, water, sugar and eggs. Doughnuts on the other hand are not usually made at home, hence all of the doughnut shops. This is one disadvantage to doughnuts; they are relatively difficult to produce. Doughnuts are made from the same ingredients as cookies, but they also have east in them to give them a more beadlike quality than unleavened cookies.
In 2006, the classic television show Sesame Street decided to change one of their fan favorite character’s, the Cookie Monster. During this time childhood obesity was a hot topic. The creators of Sesame Street spoke strongly against obesity and saw it as their duty to promote fighting against it by slowly morphing Cookie Monster in to a Veggie Monster. The decision was met with immediate outrage and many felt that changing a beloved American cultural icon was sacrilegious.

When I think about Thanksgiving and Christmas, the first thought that comes to mind is the good food. Every year my family and I prepare many homemade dishes to celebrate the holidays. For Thanksgiving, my family and I will go all out the way in preparing dinner. We will actually start preparing the food two days in advance, so we can make sure that we have everything is prepared. The food is traditional with Thanksgiving, turkey, ham, collard greens, yams, stuffing, egg nog, cranberry sauce and sweet potato pie. For Christmas, my family does not prepare as much food as we do ...
I agree with your choice. Chocolate milk is harmful and should be stopped. Chocolate milk can cause many health problems to the kids in our school and world.
The three chocolate chip cookie brands tested were Chips Ahoy!, Keebler’s Original Soft Batch, and Cub Foods brand. The three brands were rated on a scale from one to three (three being the best, one the worst) on their flavor, chewiness, and appearance. To score a three on flavor the cookie had to taste delicious and melt in your mouth like ice cream outside on a hot summer day. To score a three on chewiness, it had to be very soft like dough and take a long time to finish. Finally, to rate a three on appearance the cookie had to be very appealing to the taste tester and look delicious to eat. The brand of cookies that scored the highest in each category, I crowned the best chocolate chip cookie in America.

Sugar is an extremely important resource in the United States. Americans are addicted to sugar. It is used in an overwhelming number of foods, from soft-drinks to candy bars to snack foods to alcohol. In fact, American citizens consume nearly 300 billion pounds of sugar every year, or roughly 130 pounds per person (Walton). Despite the resource being highly abundant all throughout the world, the price of sugar in the United States is among the highest on earth. The price of sugar is being kept high on behalf of American sugar producers, who used their influence in Washington to pass legislation which allows them to grow their crops without fear of competition from cheap foreign sources. These producers recently ran into trouble when a sugar surplus caused them to default on $834 million that they loaned from the federal government (Wexler). In response, the USDA agreed to purchase 400,000 tons of sugar to keep these businesses afloat. Why is this happening? Is it a new occurrence? What is being done to prevent a bailout from happening in the future?
We spend the day baking cookies, making fudge and preparing a big Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings. The children love to see each other. They spend the day playing games and sharing their new gifts and toys that Santa Claus brought for each of them. They get so eager to decorate, that it is hard to restrain them.Decorating for Christmas is so much fun. My father always draws a new background scenery, for the Nativity scene, that he displays, every year. He, my brother-in-laws and my husband start with the decorations for the outside of the house and the front yard.
The whole family comes together for this special holiday. We have so many traditions of that particular day. When I was a child in the month of December, every morning my father would put Christmas songs in my room. The very first song that he would play is ,“It’s the Most Wonderful time of the Year” this song gives me joy to this present day. I would wake up to this song and find my dad in the living room waiting for a dance, he would spin me what felt like endless. On that afternoon, my mother and I would start making delicious tamales and posole while my dad is making his famous dessert, cheesecake. Then on that cold and dark night my sisters dressed up my dad in a Santa costume and sent him to the roof. I was in disbelief when I saw “Santa” on my roof. My parents would remind me that I was the happiest girl in the world that night. They would say that my eyes were wide and my mouth was open the whole time “he” was up there. It was never about the presents that would await for me in Christmas morning, it was about the whole family being together and having a fun time. Which we did and I still continue to understand that. My father made that special day just for
