The New York Soda Ban is a step in the wrong direction and efforts should be put towards making life better, rather than focusing on a movement that will have little to no effect. Realize that I am not stating the soda should be drank, because even I know that soda is harmful towards the body and is one of the leading causes of obesity. However, I believe that the soda ban will have little effect and that time and money should be applied somewhere where the act would have an effect of making life better. The reason I do not believe this ban will do as much good as stated, is because the ban is flawed. This brings me to my first point, which is, one cup of boysenberry juice has 256 grams of sugar, equaling to 225 calories. One cup of Cola only
Vending machines should be allowed is because it provides snacks , candy , and drinks . I think vending machines should be allowed in school is because if you are hungry you can go up and by one . Also if you didn’t have breakfast you could get something to eat from there. Last it could help the students in school .
The New York soda ban would not prove to be effective because it is will bring about a rebellious reaction in some people, it does not include supermarkets, vending machine and convenience stores and refills which means people can go around it and educating people should be the first step towards improvement in their lifestyle.
This article is talking about a mayor banning beverages larger than 16 oz. at restaurants, sports arenas and movie theaters. The reason this mayor wants to ban large sodas is because he is afraid for all of New York’s health. That’s a good thing because a lot of us don’t know what we drink and eat most of the time. We just eat our food we don’t even bother to look what’s really in side such as calories, fats and oils in our food. This Mayor is doing New York a huge favor by banning large sodas. He’s helping everyone in New York about their health but people of New York doesn’t see that. There are people who are trying to not let him pass this law because some of them probably drink 16 oz. every day of once a week or twice a week or even more.
Overall you have read lots of bad facts about soda but you've only scratched the surface, there are still plenty more facts to discover. In my opinion we need to cut back on soft drinks and have more drinks with more nutritional value. While more americans become obese while cola companies get paid millions for it, we shouldn’t be taken advantage of. Even diet soda does the complete opposite, it gives you even more health problems. In conclusion, This is all my opinion on why soda is bad for you and why you should consider cutting back for your family and your
Imagine: you’re chewing your fresh new piece of green mint bubble gum. But then your teacher tells everyone in the class they aren’t allowed to chew gum because one person is being too distracting with their gum. Everyone has probably had gum at least once in their life. So why shouldn’t students be allowed to chew gum in school? Kids should be allowed to chew gum in school because it helps kids focus and deal with stress.
In the past couple years people all around the nation, whether it's in New York City or an 8th Grade classroom in Michigan, people have been pressed with the question, whether the New York Soda Ban, is a good thing, improving health, or if there is a larger issue. Is this decision showing evidence of the Government interfering with our basic civil liberties?
The obesity epidemic is one of the most pressing issues at this point in both American society and U.S. public policy initiatives. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 35.9% of U.S. adults over the age of twenty are obese (CDC, 2013). The CDC further notes that 69.2% of U.S. adults twenty years of age and over are overweight (this percentage includes those who are obese). The obesity problem is not exclusive to the adults in the U.S. The CDC notes that 18.4% of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 are currently obese (CDC, 2013). These statistics illustrate the severity of the obesity epidemic in this country, but what can be done to address or even correct this problem? Many people have proposed solutions, but few are as radical as the proposal from Michael Bloomberg (the New York City Mayor) in 2012.
The article, Soda Consumption Does Not Equal Obesity, states that soda is not the only reason people are obese. When people are more active, they are less likely to have an obesity-related illness. Being active plays an important role because people are constantly burning fat, which makes it less likely for them to be overweight or obese. Economists from Emory University declare that soft drinks do not have a big impact on weight. The reason is that when untaxed, soft drinks only represent 7% of a soda drinker’s calorie intake.
Schools throughout the US have banned the sale of soft drinks on their premises. ii. The. Economic: People can afford to buy more soft drinks under current economic situation. Recessions do not seem to affect sales of CSD.
Finally, banning soda will hurt the economy. Coca cola on its own has made 11.5 billion dollars in sales last year. Banning this will influence the economy in a bad way and the economy is already in bad spot. If you think the money can be put to other more natural drinks that can then keep the economy stable, what about those who work for the soda companies? There are many people that work for these companies. Taking their jobs would be even worse. The company creates jobs and benefits the economy which is why we shouldn’t ban their
From my research on the effectiveness of the soda tax policy, I found three different arguments. The first argument supported the increased tax on sugar-sweetened beverages. These articles were written from a medical perspective, so they focused on the health benefits that could be achieved from the implementation of the tax. They believe that these excise taxes are beneficiary for both the consumers and the state as it will increase sales tax revenue, while decreasing sugary beverage consumption, which will then improve public health and fight obesity. The second group reasoned that the net effect of the excise taxes on sweetened beverages is next to zero. Their studies show that an increase in taxed beverages will decrease a consumer’s demand, which will lead them to cost-efficient substitutes that may be equally as bad for their health, therefore, there will be no gain the health department.
You should think do you agree with only nutritious school. The many things that nutritious drinks do to help you grow and it potentially would keep you healthier. I know that you might not like to drink nutritious drinks but it would help you. Some people can not have nutritious drinks because they are allergic. Nutritious drinks should be allowed at school but not non-nutritious drinks because of the bad things in does to your body.
Have you ever thought how much soda you consume and how bad it can be for you? Many people will drink soda instead of water, simply because it tastes better. The government should limit the intake of sugary beverages because it can lead to many different problems such as heart disease, obesity, and overall it is an unhealthy life-style. “The average person consumes almost 100lbs of sugar a year, with the single biggest source being soda.” A sugary beverage occasionally would be ok, but drinking it every day would cause problems for you overtime. People drink, more soda than they do water. People should be consuming at least eight 8-ounce glasses a day. Mostly no one will drink that amount of water a day. In today’s society, it can be easy to grab a soda for one dollar and carry on. They may taste better but they are not better for your health. “Sugary drinks include soda, fruit punch, lemonade, and other “aides” sweetened powdered drinks, and sports energy drinks.”
