This reflection has been written to explore my own attitude regarding learning and how it affects my personal development in the health and social care setting. I will introduce my preferred learning style. I will analyse difficulties which can occur with learning and present personal strategies to overcome them. I will be implementing different theories to underpin my strategies and to analyse their reliability.

The following provided example will be used to analyse Banduras’ Social Learning Theory (1963) and how it relates to my personal learning and development of understanding skills in health and social care. As a student nurse, I learned to give subcutaneous injections. The procedures were clear. However, one time I was busy and I forgot to double check the patients’ name. The result was that I gave Ms. Schmid, Ms. Schmidt’s injection. The names are equal, except one letter. This caused confusion and by not following the right procedures, I made that mistake. My inappropriate behaviour could have led to fatal health consequences for the patient. The good news was the dose and the medication were too low to affect the patients’ health. All four principles describe exactly my learning progress. The biggest evidence that this theory really works is that I didn’t forget my mistake (Motivation) after that long time (25 years). Learning is depending on different factors. My own willingness but also the environment can influence the effectiveness of my learning. I will use Vygotsky’s social learning theory (1978) who usually get used to explain child’s development, to underpin my conclusion. I will use my completed course leader training program as an example. Vygotsky theory has 3 main themes. Why I think Vygotsky sociocultural, theory work best in childcare development is that children work best in small group; there are many opportunities to incorporate individual work as well. The individual work can also be used as assessments. A child working alone will show the teacher what she actually knows, and how much their development has improved. It exposes students to different ways of thinking and higher standards, which in turn lead to greater accomplishments. One of the examples used in Buddy Boys was when Henry was trying to understand why the poor man in the ghetto killed someone over ten dollars. For the poor man this is a learned behavior and in the ghetto, ten dollars is a “fortune.” He saw it as a mean to survive and that’s the only way he knew how too. This situation is connected to social learning theory because the poor man was raised this way. The only thing the poor man knew how to do was to survive by him because he was born and raised that way.
In this essay I will be discussing the importance of understanding learning styles for student nurses. I will also be focusing on the learning cycle and learning style using the Honey and Mumford 80 questionnaire. I look into the details of how learning style helps students to understand the importance of recognising one’s learning style preference. Lev Vygotsky stages of development were not defined by age or biology, the basis behind his theory was unerstanding social and cultural experiences of a child, and how they affect the the child's development. A philosophy of Vygotsky’s theory was the zone of proximal development (ZPD), this is the difference between what a child is able to solve on its own based on the stage of cognitive development, and what a child can learn with the help or experience of another person. Vygotsky believes the skill of knowledge comes from mastering new social situations where learning is shared with others. He also believed that experiences should be shared in social settings, and placed a large emphasis on the quality of group work within the cognitive development process. Within group work, children's language is encouraged to develop, through conversation, questioning and sharing cognitive content with their peers. Vygotsky believed that "social interaction enables the child to develop the intellectual skills needed for logical reasoning and thought." (Grossman, S. 2008) Through language and communication, children learn to evaluate the world and change their actions accordingly.

In my teaching practice, as a Health and Social Care Teacher, I try to identify and meet individual learner needs, boost their morale and encourage them using all the necessary available and on target resources. Values and attitudes were influencing the way our students were learning at all times; therefore, they are considered an important part of the curriculum, hence the purpose of teaching and learning resources is mostly to provide a source of learning experience for our students.
When you step back and look at the big picture of life, you will notice that the concept of learning plays an essential role in it. What you learn and how you learn is your key to life success and it can open a multitude of doors for you along the way. Learning, however, is routine and much like other activities that are routine such as brushing your teeth or eating meals, you begin to think less and less about what you are doing or how you have been doing it. I never actually put too much thought into how I learned or the origins of my learning experience, but after reflecting on the ideas I have been able to clearly identify the manners in which I have learned and how I can transform my learning experience
