Goal setting is one of the most important tasks that anyone will complete because it helps measure your progress for your life. There three types of goals, short, intermediate and long term. Short term want to be obtained anywhere from 1 day to 3 months, intermediate goals reach from 3 to 6 months and long term goals are set for 6 months and beyond long term is anything that wants to be accomplished.

When I create a goal I always write down whether the goal is actually SMART, if I find that the goal is not “SMART” than I add all of the attributes of a SMART goal to it. These goals benefit my life because it keeps me organized on what I exactly what to accomplish I life. It’s Measurable because I will know when it has been accomplished. It’s Attainable because it’s achievable. It’s something that’s not too hard or unreasonable. To pick up the phone and make a phone call to the people who care about you is really easy to do. I know I am able going to be able to accomplish it especially because this is something that I want to do. Building a relationship with my siblings is a top priority for me. Therefore, creating goals helps establish what direction I am trying to go in, and also allows me to figure out how to solve a problem. Another example is if I fail a test, I will try to examine the errors within my work; however, I will then create a goal for myself to make sure I do better on the test the next time. Finding the errors and creating goals to fix the errors makes me an independent learner. I am taking the charge that I want to do better; therefore, I am going to create a goal that helps me succeed. In other words, specific stands for the who, what, where, why, and when of the goal. Measurable is explained by asking how much, how often, and how many. Attainable asks if the goal achievable. Relevant is defined as how it applies to your ultimate vision. Finally, time-bound is a time-restraint you establish to complete the specific goal. Furthermore, there is a section for intention or in other words, the long-term goal (Tatt, 2012). By filling out this worksheet I was able to first state my intention and then break it down further into smaller specific goals that would eventually lead up to the final picture. By choosing just one specific goal at a time and achieving that success, it becomes much easier to complete your overall dream.
Goal setting is key in motivation; goals need to be clear, sharp, and realistic. To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.
