Sixth grade was… well, very interesting. I didn’t know what to expect coming into the year. I had heard some rumors about Mrs. Smith and I was a little nervous. I knew that I had Nick Smith in most of my classes and he had been my friend since we were four years old so I wasn’t really nervous.
One thing that I fondly remember from sixth grade is the folklore plays. Even though my book wasn’t picked, Nick Smith’s book was and it was great. Our play was called Goofy Goobers. My character was called Harry Garry. I was not a lead character in the play. My group consisted of Nick Smith, Jason Merrill, Will Stanek, Michael Priddy, Max Toscano, and Gabe Foster, and I. When the night of the plays came around, I wasn’t nervous because I had memorized all of my lines. It was an experience that I will

never forget. Another great experience in sixth grade this year was getting the student of the month for February.
It was a great time because all of the students of the month went to the office at lunch and had pizza. We even had the opportunity to bring a friend so I brought my friend Jason. We had pizza and ice cream and had a good time. My parents were very proud of me. It was a great day that I will never forget.
A third great experience from sixth grade was the sixth grade fun night. Everyone in sixth grade stayed after school and did fun things like play dodgeball, basketball, and capture the flag. There was also pizza! At the end, everyone had a dance party and we did a dance battle. Each team danced and in the end, the blue team (my team) won. Everyone on the blue team received a candy cane for their victory.
A fourth great experience in sixth grade was going to the movie theater to see the movie Wonder. We had all read the book and we went to see the movie. It was a really good book and a good movie. A lot of people cried but I didn’t. I can’t believe our teachers let us take half a day off of school to go watch a movie. It was a great time and a great movie. I had a lot of
fun. I had a great year in sixth grade this year. The year was full of funny moments and great times including our folklore plays, winning student of the month, the sixth grade fun night, and going to see the movie Wonder. In conclusion, Mrs. Smith, Mr. King, Mr. O’Dell, and all of my other teachers have been very kind and supportive. I can’t wait to get to seventh grade, but it will be hard to leave such nice teachers. RIP IN THE CHAT
“Education is not the preparation for life; education is life itself.” - John Dewey. Every year, as we enter a new grade, new challenges approach us. Eighth grade is no exception., and will be very different from 7th grade. As I enter my eighth grade school year, I will be bombarded with a variety of new experiences and challenges such as buddies, academics, and being prepared for high school. One of the most important tasks that is thrust onto me is buddies.
In early September the students of Sherwood Middle School and parents were shocked. When it was announced by the the district that Sherwood Middle School would be getting a new vice principal. The school board announced that Sherwood Middle School’s vice principal for the last two years, Mr. Kevin McIntosh. Would be leaving and would be replaced by a young man named Marc Jolley.
Imagine if East Jordan high school offered several elective and AP classes to students. Imagine how it could benefit the students of East Jordan Public schools. It would offer much more to students. East Jordan high school use to have many elective classes like: Forensics, Environmental sciences, Creative writing, honors biology, and advance writing, but now the high school does not offer enough elective and AP classes. East Jordan high school must add more classes because they help with schedules, college, and preparedness.
After, we played some fun activities like rolling down hills, which was this game where people crossed arms and then tried to have every body's arms straight. We also spotted deer. The deer were trying to hide from us when we saw them. They sprinted off faster than a cheetah when we saw them. We were able to have our lunch and then we played more fun games after that. My class went and walked all over Leroy oaks getting to see all of the nature. One guy who worked there taught us about acorns. He was hilarious, sarcastic, and was like go ahead and jump in the poison ivy. Next, we went inside a museum and did a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt was about raccoons and all the other creatures in the museum. I was not the biggest fan it but it went pretty quickly. All I had to do was look at some posters and in some drawers. Mrs. Palpant had a station where you had two rugs and you had to get across with six people on the mats and not touch the ground. It was hard to succeed because there are six people. I was always the person that had to move one of the mats up. The rugs were not very big only about two and a half by two. But, up next we were going to go in the water. I was ready to
Buena High School located in Sierra, Vista, AZ has an uncertain future, until the vice presidents of the school finally shed some light on the top mysterious project. Mr. Duce states “.... Air conditioning obviously needs to be better regulated, we’re getting a second gym. A lot of high schools in the state have two gyms, and probably across the country. They’re making an addition to the performance theatre area. We’re getting LED lighting throughout, which is going to be more cost-effective and hopefully last longer than what we have now. I think the improvements for the school are going to be significant, even though you may not be able to see them.”
It was a warm April day and all of the students were let out of school for the day. I went home to finish packing with the help of my parents making sure that I had everything and I wasn 't forgetting. I was excited for a week now to go on the trip to Washington D.C. with the whole 8th grade class for a week.
It was an exciting day for me and I didn’t even know what was going to happen. My grandpa came to my house and then he told my brother Luke and I that he was going to take us on a fishing trip to Canada with his friend. We were so excited when he told us I told Grandpa, “This will be the best summer vacation ever!” After he told us we went and got gear like fishing poles, rain suites and food. When we got to the house the morning we were leaving, he showed us a picture of the cabin we would be staying in for the week. It took us a while to pack the car we all packed some of the same foods.
After moving from Culver City and into Westmont, my brother and I wanted to continue our studies at our elementary in Culver City so we commuted on three buses and the train at 5:30 in the morning. It was not easy, but it became the norm that continued onto middle school. After my brother and I graduated, we attended Venice High School; however, I would not last longer there. My math teacher wanted me out of the classroom, a class where I was the only Hispanic student, and instead wanted me to retake a math course. After unsuccessful attempts to convince school administrators and the teacher to allow me to stay in the classroom I decided to leave and attended my homeschool, Washington Preparatory High School (WPHS). I was clueless of the type of school WPHS was, but I soon would know.
My freshman year of high school everything was so new to me. I was at a new school, with new people, in a new environment. I wasn’t prepared for high school in even the slightest bit. My school did not do a good job at preparing me for the real world. What they don’t tell you when you finish eighth grade, is that you’re going to have to read a book over the summer. So, here I was first day of freshman year and the teacher goes, “Alright class time to take out your summer reading books. We are going to do a lot with them over the next few weeks so make sure you bring them every class!” My heart dropped. Summer reading assignment? I quickly turned to my left and ask the person sitting next to me if they had any idea what the teacher was talking about. With an attitude, like I was distracting her, she quickly told me we were supposed to pick a fiction book to read at the beginning of the summer. I thought my life was over. As soon as I got home from school that day I researched for easy fiction books to read for a ninth grader. “Percy Jackson: The
We went to Chicago because my sister had been saving money to buy her own look a like American Girl doll. So went spent most of our time in that store browsing through the different outfits and accessories, though we did get to have lunch in the cafe. I also noticed while at the store that my childhood is officially ruined. It is ruined because American Girl retired my favorite dolls and even got rid of the books I had read as a kid. After all of our browsing, we walked all the way to the giant bean. My grandma had never been there so we absolutely had to go there. Then on our way back we stopped at a few stores, much to my displeasure. Finally we stopped at a candy shop and a cupcake shop to get a few treats before we finally went home. Also as an extra surprise my grandma decided that when we got home we would go see the movie Allegiant. The movie was okay if you think about it as just a normal movie and not a book to movie adaptation because it was nothing like the
When it was time for the field trip everyone was already in the classroom talking and waiting for the teacher to tell us that we can head down to the bus lot and go to the play, “Ok everyone grab your backpacks and sack lunches and let's go see a play!”
Having no job makes it easier to find time for schoolwork and It makes it a lot easier to get things done during the day. My boyfriend Trey and I are living in the basement of his retired parent's house since we move to Washington state about a year ago. I've started to get somewhat of a pattern going during the day. I wake up, run any errands, do all my chores, and get any craft projects done and then I sit down to do schoolwork before bedtime. My chore responsibilities are only limited to a few things since my boyfriend's mother Katje does most of the cooking and cleaning. I take about a good two to three hours every other week cleaning our studio sized living area. Every few days I'll do our laundry and clean the upstairs bathroom. Our hedgehog's cage gets cleaned once a week and the cats litter box gets cleaned daily.
A precious memory of mine was when I was in sixth grade. My dad decided to take my siblings and me to Yosemite National Park for the day. We spent most of the day outside looking at nature. We climbed over rocks trying to be careful not to fall into the river. We played in the snow that was on the ground.
One memory that comes to mind belongs to a day of no particular importance. It was late in the fall in Merced, California on the playground of my old elementary school; an overcast day with the wind blowing strong. I stood on the blacktop, pulling my hoodie over my ears. The wind was causing miniature tornados; we called them “dirt devils”, to swarm around me. I stood there, watching the leaves kick up and then settle. My friends called me over to the wooden playground surrounded by a sea of mulch chips. The bridge squeaked furiously under our weight. An unannounced game of tag started and we found ourselves weaving in and out of the wooden fortress and the trees that surrounded it. My shoe became untied and I took a time out to tie it with a method that no one uses here. We heard an adult voice; it was time to go in. We lined up single file, supposedly in alphabetical order but no one ever does. I liked that, I never liked being in the back. While waiting for everyone to line up, I looked up at the trees that line the walkway.
It was the second semester of fourth grade year. My parents had recently bought a new house in a nice quite neighborhood. I was ecstatic I always wanted to move to a new house. I was tired of my old home since I had already explored every corner, nook, and cranny. The moment I realized I would have to leave my old friends behind was one of the most devastating moments of my life. I didn’t want to switch schools and make new friends. Yet at the same time was an interesting new experience.
