Gone Fishing!
It was an exciting day for me and I didn’t even know what was going to happen. My grandpa came to my house and then he told my brother Luke and I that he was going to take us on a fishing trip to Canada with his friend. We were so excited when he told us I told Grandpa, “This will be the best summer vacation ever!” After he told us we went and got gear like fishing poles, rain suites and food. When we got to the house the morning we were leaving, he showed us a picture of the cabin we would be staying in for the week. It took us a while to pack the car we all packed some of the same foods.
The trip to Canada was about two days long by car. On the way there we stayed in a hotel overnight. When we got to the hotel we took our luggage to our rooms. We went down stairs and we found the swimming pool, we went swimming and then we went to bed. The next morning we got up and packed and we were bock on the road. It was kind of fun because we had to cross the border into Canada. We had to show them our passports and our birth certificates to get across. On the way to go to our cabin we saw a bear cross the road in front of us. Then when we got to the cabin we
When we got on the other side of the lake we got the fishing poles, minnows and gas. We had to take the gas to put in the boat motor. It was a one mile walk to get to the other lake. When we got to the lake we put the fishing tackle in the boat and then we went and started fishing for lake trout. We had to put two hundred feet of string down with a minnow on it. We had the minnow on a hook called a cow bell, it had bright neon color beads on it so the fish were able to see it in that dark water. We each were allowed to catch and keep 3 fish. I caught 2, Luke caught 3, Grandpa caught 3 and Grandpa’s friend caught 3. Then we started back to the cabin to have the fish
With a coastline of over 202 000 km and over a fourth of the world’s freshwater resources, it is no wonder why Canada’s fishing industry is a huge part of its economy.1 Canada exports more than 75% of its fish to over 130 countries worldwide. Many of the 7 million people who reside on the coast depend on the ocean’s resources. In total, Canada’s entire fishing industry is worth around 5$ billion dollars a year, being one of the world’s most valuable. However, the coasts have not been treated by respect; overfishing, over consumption, and wasteful practices has deteriorated, not only the industry, but the ecosystems and fish populations. This is a huge global issue; the worldwide collapse of fisheries has been project for 2048. Slowly, as the trends continue, we will inevitably see many fish species start to disappear. In fact, the ill-treatment of species on the Canadian border has already devastated a large specie, the cod.
It was the middle of October, and it was finally time for my long awaited moose hunt. I have waited ever since I was a little girl for this opportunity, and it was finally here. So, my father and I packed up our stuff and left the warmth of Phoenix. We were leaving the "Valley of the Sun" and headed for a place called Wyoming. After two days and fourteen long hours of driving, we made it to our hunting unit.
You know the feeling when everything’s perfect, and suddenly your heart just stops? The 1 hour 48 minute drive to Lake Ontario was just like any other. Movie playing, siblings arguing, music blasting. My family hosts our annual 4th of July party up by Cape Vincent. With the warm air filled with the scent of the grill, and the sounds of laughter and music, that weekend was turning out to be just like the rest. Or at least that’s what we thought. 1311 Failing Shores Lane was never quiet during any of the previous events, but for some reason a dead silence draped over the lot.
I love camping and spending time outside, but this summer I had a completely new experience when I visited the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Before leaving, I had very little knowledge of the Boundary Waters. After getting advice from friends and purchasing some special equipment, I realized that camping there was going to be much more complicated than I had thought.
“Come on, “ my counselor Emily screamed from shore. The quick rapids made it very difficult to dig our paddles into the river. My cabin was stopping to eat lunch on our Tuesday canoeing trip. On Saturday, we had traveled down to Brownstown, Indiana for a week full of friends, fun, and God. My church stayed at a retreat center called Pyoca. Every year on Tuesday, we would go on a canoeing or rafting trip depending on the water levels. Emily, Annabelle, my canoeing partner, and I sat along the sand bank waiting for other canoes to come in. Many other groups slowly went by, while we patiently waited for other groups to come in. I was so hungry, I couldn’t wait. Canoeing had zapped all of my energy, and had made me really hungry. I began to quickly wade out into the river, so I could help the other canoes come in faster. Someone screamed, “Be careful” from the bank. Nate Epple, a counselor of
The ride to cedar point took a long time because we had to go all the way to Sandusky, Ohio, it took about 3-4 hours. During the ride it was kind of noisy and we had to wake up at 3am to be able to go, and i was very tired, so i tried to fall asleep and i did, but i woke up to the bus hitting a big bump and my face smacking the seat. After that i decided to stay awake throughout the rest of the bus ride there. Once we got into Ohio we drove a little bit and stopped
Vacations aren't always perfect there is always something that goes wrong. At least in my experiences. A perfect vacation to me is when we are all together as a family, which honestly doesn't happen that much. Having a 20 year old brother an 18 year old in post secondary school can make things complicated. Or having a vacation with no,ILLNESS, which can be very, very hard to do!! And I know I’m not the only one who has experienced this on a vacation!
We went to New Mexico for a week to build a playground. The trip was long and hot but it was worth it. The playground was going to be built at a Manuelito Najavo Childrens Home in Gallup, New Mexico. In the middle of their dorms. We arrived at a cottage and starting unpacking, choosing rooms, and all that. Dinner came, we all took showers and went to bed.
I used to love fish. Ever since I was a toddler I loved everything fish themed! ‘Rainbow Fish’, by Marcus Pfister, was one of my favorite children’s books and I even had a lot of Rainbow fish themed stuffed animals and toys. “Mom, can you read me Rainbow Fish again?” I said while I layed on my stomach with my face down on the pillow. “Ok Sweetie.”, My mom said with a smile on her face, probably for the 5th time that night. One of my favorite movies as a child was Finding Nemo. I had to have sat down on the couch at least once a week to watch Finding Nemo, and take in the beauty of the ocean and all the cute little animated fishies. I had an ocean themed bathroom. I was too careless as a child to really care about the decor, as I picked my tooth
Life is unexpected, full of twists and turns. It can take you anywhere, as long as you are patient, and are willing to make the journey. There will be roadblocks along the way, some will be simple, and others, not so much. However, every problem can be solved, one way or another. Take this situation, for example. Imagine a crewman decided to go on a fishing trip to relax. They are miles away from the nearest body of land, and then they get injured. You are at the coast guard station, when an alarm goes off, notifying everyone of this crewman’s injury. You have a helicopter and offer to rescue the crewman. However, you only have enough fuel to carry you a certain amount of miles. You need to wisely plan what time you are going to start because you don’t want to run out of gas. If I was in this situation, I would closely look at
Temporarily Closed, that’s all I needed to hear from my mom to learn that we weren't going to Mackinac Island. The Arnold Ferry Service, our usual ferry line to get to the island, were closed after the owner backed out on the company while taking the money he got for himself by making unnecessary budget and worker cuts. There was another ferry line that my family had NEVER taken the 17 years going to the island, so we decided to give it a shot. I was bummed but the worst of my problems were yet to come.
I am writing you from a place at the very top of the mitten also known as Michigan, this is a very busy well toured beautiful place called Mackinaw Island. There is so much to do and I did not know were to start! I have taken so magnificent pictures that i cannot wait to share with you. It is a lot different from home. Canada: home of the most picturesque landscapes and land of multicultural societies. Canada has everything and more. From the massive multicultural society in Toronto, housing nearly every nationality to the great mountainous terrain where the Canadian borders meet the Arctic Circle. Soon I am to travel there and get the opportunity to see these characteristics for myself. I am therefore curious as to what I will experience and learn from this journey. This assignment consist of my expectations for the journey and my view on being a foreigner in a different country. The assignment uses the future tense.
I finished grabbing his lifejacket, toys and the snacks out of the car. I caught up to him just before the dock.
The entire family got together and it was always a last minute thing but no matter what was going on we all decide we would go up to County Park Lake to have family time. There would be my grandma and my Aunts and Uncles and their kids when we pulled up to the parking lot. Under the shade trees the women would be sitting trying to stay cool and the older men of the family stand around a grill they would be sitting up the charcoal pyramid to lite to start grilling the food while the kids where at the tot lot playing the equipment you could hear the laughter of the kids playing . Also the mean talking about which is the best way to grill. The women would be laughing at the guys arguing over which way was bett...
