Having no job makes it easier to find time for schoolwork and It makes it a lot easier to get things done during the day. My boyfriend Trey and I are living in the basement of his retired parent's house since we move to Washington state about a year ago. I've started to get somewhat of a pattern going during the day. I wake up, run any errands, do all my chores, and get any craft projects done and then I sit down to do schoolwork before bedtime. My chore responsibilities are only limited to a few things since my boyfriend's mother Katje does most of the cooking and cleaning. I take about a good two to three hours every other week cleaning our studio sized living area. Every few days I'll do our laundry and clean the upstairs bathroom. Our hedgehog's cage gets cleaned once a week and the cats litter box gets cleaned daily. …show more content…
My boyfriend's mother is the one to make dinner every night unless my boyfriend's parents are gone and we are babysitting his niece and nephew, then I would do the cooking. Trey's mother is also in charge of going grocery shopping and sometimes I go with her on the days that my schoolwork is caught up. I only use the calendar on my phone for important dates such as Dr. appointments and when I need to turn in an assignment or if I need to attend a webinar. I set an alarm on my phone for an hour before I have to attend a webinar just to make sure I do not miss it. I like to do my schoolwork in the evening when all chores and activities are done for the day. First, I sit down in a quiet area, which is difficult to do with such a small living area, and get out my laptop and textbook. Then I get a cup of pencils, pens, and highlighters where I can easily reach them and a glass of water. Next, I put in my headphones and turn on pandora , I then turn on the study station which consists of mostly classical music and I get to
My mother was never one to check my agenda or keep my schedule for me; instead, I learned to time manage my life. Between school work, taking care of my dogs, and helping around the house, I managed it all with time to spare for fun and relaxation. I am incredibly thankful for this lesson, as I believe it will be my “one-up” on my college peers.
having a job seems very beneficial and worthwhile to me. I was public schooled all the way up
“Education is not the preparation for life; education is life itself.” - John Dewey. Every year, as we enter a new grade, new challenges approach us. Eighth grade is no exception., and will be very different from 7th grade. As I enter my eighth grade school year, I will be bombarded with a variety of new experiences and challenges such as buddies, academics, and being prepared for high school. One of the most important tasks that is thrust onto me is buddies.
Living with my parents wasn’t ideal for me in high school, but quite frankly, it saved me a lot of time and money. My parents, Andrew and Sherrie Lejcher allowed me to live at home free of charge. Each month they paid the utility bill, allowed me to eat their food and picked up anything that I needed upon my request free of charge. While going to high school and living at home, I didn’t need to worry about putting together a budget since everything was being paid for by my parents. Since everything was paid for by my parents, I had the freedom to go out and spend money. My friends and I would often go to movies, out of town parties and restaurants such as Perkins, Buffalo Wild Wings or even China Star. When I lived at my parents, I had limited responsibilities around the house and were fairly easy to complete in a timely fashion. Each weekend I had the duties of cleaning up dog feces, vacuuming the basement, cleaning the bathrooms and making sure my room was in line. Although the list of chores were easy, they had to be done right each and every time, otherwise my father would get upset and make me complete hard labor such as stacking wood, weeding out the garden and stacking cement blocks in hope of building an effective retaining wall. I went to Pine Island High School here in Minnesota and the teachers there rarely gave out assignments over the
Just like Rosie, my father was pulled out of school when he was five years old and was sent to work in the cotton fields in Mississippi to help bring in money. There he worked the fields from early in the morning until sunset where he would remove each piece of cotton by hand and place it in his sack, which was larger than him. His fingers became very sore from the hard, sharp burrs of the plant. It was hard work, but he did what he was told to do. Back then, going to school was not as important as having all the family members work to bring in money, therefore, he never
But many low-income students not only have a full-time course schedule, they also have jobs where they work more than 30 hours per week. Approximately one-quarter of college students’ work while attending school and have both a full course-load and a full-time job (Carnevale, Smith, & Melton, 2015). Working helps students with the living costs as well as tuition and can help students learn skill sets that many employers prefer. However, there are problems with having full-time work while going to college.
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.
William Golding was born on September 19,1911 in St Columb Minor, England. His mom fought for equal rights for women and his dad was a school master. William Golding tried to write his first book when he was just twelve years old, but he failed. That did not stop him and went on to attend Oxford University and studied English literature. William Golding even published a book a year before he was to graduate, but of course was looked over by many critics. He became a teacher like his father, but then decided to join the Royal Navy and spent six years fighting in World War II. He went back to writing and teaching after World War II ended and nine years later he published his most famous piece of work, Lord of the Flies.
Gemini-Scout is a remote-controlled robot that does search-and-rescue work in underground mines. The robot is less than two feet tall and has wheels which enable it to go up and down stairs and make tight turns. Gemini may be small, but it is strong and can easily carry food, water, and other supplies.
students in his research. Which is followed by Mounsey,Vandehey, and Diekhoff (2013), when they found that there is no major differentiation between working and non-working students, in grade point average(Mounsey,Vandehey, and Diekhoff 2013, pg. 12). Granted with 74.5% of students working while attending school (pg. 3). Which nearly half,48.9%, of these students found it hard to meet deadlines(Schwarts, McGuire, & Satterstrom ,2011, pg. 4). That seems to be around a consensus as the American Council on Education. (2006) found that 78% of students work (pg. 6). While stating, of that 83.5% where working part time, 25 hours or less(pg. 6). As I was preparing to leave the army one of my major concerns was if working would automatically put me at a disadvantage in school. All the reading on this topic shows that even in the early 2000's, well over half of all students have some type of job. Furthering this, since the early 2000's is Orszag, J, Orstag, & Whitmore(2001) stating that, 16 to 24 year old's have shown a rise in working by 8% going from 49% to 57% (para. 1). Students then on average worked 25 hours a week, with students at a 4 year college working less hours on average(para. 2). In the research, it was found that students who worked 10 or fewer hours a week, tended to have higher GPA's than their peers (para. 5). Which that is be the idea behind the golden 10-15 hours; that is enough to make students prioritize their lives while giving them a vast majority of their time still free. However, Fletcher (2011) found that 20% of students where working full time, 30+ hours a week, and that they were 10% less likely to receive their degrees (para. 2). Even more, she concludes in the same way as previous sources; that worki...
I independently complete all these chores; I think I should get to go to a game. It may be very time consuming to purchase tickets for the game, then travel to the location of the game, watch the game, then travel home. Even though it is also time consuming to do these chores on a daily basis, so you should be able to give up some of your time like I do every day or weekend.
Also, a good friend of mine named Sierra Eklund has to pay for her own apartments and she still maintains decent grades in school and works almost every day. The United States we live in has many who work hard not only in their job, but also in various hobbies as well. Such as the American novelist, Andy Weir who wrote the book “The Martian.” Andy weir ended up as one of the top sellers in action and adventure fiction on
It is very common that many high school students hold part time jobs while going to school. When these teens work, they are able to learn and experience life lessons from ethical and moral work. Knowing that school is aways and should be a priority, students should work while in high school because working helps students be more responsible with their lives, help them practice time managment, and also helps students see and experience the real world.
Whether you are a mother, a father, a daughter, or anybody with a family at home, you have to set aside what I call "me-time"-time all by yourself that you can get as much work done with out any interruptions. You need time to yourself for studying and working on your course load without distractions. Turn off your TV, turn off your radio, lock yourself in your room, and study. Because my daughter is my number one priority, I find the best time to study in between my work routes while my daughter is at school. I get 5 hours to myself to focus on school and just put my best into school work. The house is generally quiet, except for when my dogs are hyper and loud. Buying them more toys has made them play with each other instead of begging me to play, which stresses me out less. By doing my coursework during the day, it leaves my role as a mother to not interfere with school. I start my day getting ready. I prepare breakfast for my daughter and myself, energizing us for the day. Preparing breakfast used to be stressful for me, I would open the fridge and try to figure out what to make. Now, making breakfast is simple because I plan it out the night before. When I get home from work, my daughter does her homework. I normally don't need to...
