Gemini-Scout is a remote-controlled robot that does search-and-rescue work in underground mines. The robot is less than two feet tall and has wheels which enable it to go up and down stairs and make tight turns. Gemini may be small, but it is strong and can easily carry food, water, and other supplies. It was midday when Mission Control got the alert that there was a trapped miner. The report had said that a miner was trapped under some rocks that had fallen tumbling onto the miner. Mission Control immediately got Gemini-Scout prepared for the mission in the mine. He came to a fork of tunnels. He was able to hear the miner but he couldn’t see him. Beep boop bop went the robot in a questioning tone. “C’mon Gemini. Let’s enable your thermal camera and see where he’s at.” said Adam. So, Gemini enabled his thermal camera and was able to see very few thermal heatings. He had sight on the trapped miner and was slowly making his way there. Until, all of a sudden, the camera started glitching out and Gemini was no longer able to see the trapped miner. “We’ve lost thermal heatings on the miner! I repeat, thermal heatings have been lost!” cried Adam. Mission Control immediately picked up the response and said, “Backup is being sent. I repeat, backup is being sent!” Adam was relieved that the miner and Gemini would get out of the mine safe and unharmed. Finally thought Adam relieved to hear an ambulance and police sirens. “Thank god!” said Adam. The backup took the same route that Gemini-Scout did. The entire time this occurred, Gemini sat there in the middle of the tunnel. The backup saw Gemini sitting there and two of the members of the rescue team carried Gemini. “There. You got him?” asked one member to another. “Yeah. He’s secure.” replied the other
