The best thing that someone has said to me is, “ Everything is going to be okay. You’ll go so far, but you have to work towards it.” In every life, there are stumbles and mishaps. For example, waiting for the last minute to complete an assignment, get in to work ten minutes late ,or repeating these mistakes over, and over. But there are moments in life where students learn from their mistakes; whether through school or work. From their mistakes, students learn how to better themselves by gaining financial maturity, gaining life skills, and having new experiences while finding out their limits. For these reasons, students should be allowed to work part time.

Getting to work wasn’t always easy, so I had to plan ahead and use my time wisely. On my first day working at a restaurant as the host. One customer told me, harshly, to talk her order. Luckily I keep calm and patient. The next day I was stuck washing dishes. Worst job I have had. However, to keep my job I had to be efficient, hastily, and the determination to complete the dirty job. In the article “The Benefits and Risks of Adolescent Employment,” by Jeylan Mortimer, she states, “Those whose work experiences affirm their capacities as workers (e.g.) having a job that “payswell” and gives them opportunities to advance and develop a stronger sense of self-efficacy over time” (10). What she means is that work experience can help students character. For example, if a student lands a job that gives them too many hours, a low pay, a poor work station, with few breaks in between has the potential to let them develop the patience to endure through a job with a vexing environmental, determination to keep pushing on, and trying to balance their workload with their school work can develop time
In fact, “a determined student, even encountering hardships in his/her life while attending college full time, will succeed” (Culpepper 330). Also, many professionals successfully graduated college while dealing with hardships such as “raising children alone, working in multiple jobs, and caring for sick relatives” (Culpepper 330). They showed commitment by staying focused on what they wanted to achieve in their lives. An overloaded student accomplishes his/her tasks by organizing his/her daily schedule, not allowing more than one activity developing in the same hour. Also, the student has to allow for himself/herself recreational time as a reward, for that will balance his/her overwhelmed lifestyle.
In Alexandra Robbins’ book The Overachievers, she makes the astute claim that high school students today are incredibly overworked, leading to severe detriments to their quality of life. As a student in highschool, I am inclined to agree with this claim, especially since Robbins uses clear evidence and ideas to support her assertion. A schedule of a student becomes very tight as they need to balance everything out in all ways they can. For example, this year due to me taking a College Now class I have needed to compromise my entire schedule, donating another hour of my life into school. Through the past years of high school my classes started at 8:00 AM, however, now my classes start at 7:00 AM. Along with this class I have regents based classes which I manage such as Physics, English, and U.S. History, yet I take Pre-Calc this year. As a student, I always hear other students around the school complaining about the amount of work they have to do, however, they don’t realize that this work is what leads to their future success. For me complaining is not a valid excuse, as I certainly believe that there should be a deadline for everything because we can manage everything as long as we are determined. A person like me, who receives an assignment, which may be due in the next two weeks will manage their time out and complete it in the next two days, thinking that what if I have more things to do. Throughout all the school years that I have attended, there has not been one assignment that I didn’t complete or didn’t hand it in on time. Where I come from and the teachings of my parents, have taught me that family time and family are two significant parts of your life, which no matter what happens
Summary: In the essay, “Part-time Employment Undermines a Student’s Commitment to School” by Laurence Steinberg, it explains how studies show that teenagers that work while attending school are more likely to loose their commitment to school. Steinberg tells the effects on students when they work more than twenty hours a week. His theory was that students are more susceptible to losing their interest in school, while working. They may have to work in the evening time, which can interfere with homework, sleep and diet. Steinberg also elaborated on how these students that work receive money that can make school seem less desirable. Also because they do receive money, they can use their extra money to become associated with drugs and alcohol.
Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.
But many low-income students not only have a full-time course schedule, they also have jobs where they work more than 30 hours per week. Approximately one-quarter of college students’ work while attending school and have both a full course-load and a full-time job (Carnevale, Smith, & Melton, 2015). Working helps students with the living costs as well as tuition and can help students learn skill sets that many employers prefer. However, there are problems with having full-time work while going to college.

It is very common that many high school students hold part time jobs while going to school. When these teens work, they are able to learn and experience life lessons from ethical and moral work. Knowing that school is aways and should be a priority, students should work while in high school because working helps students be more responsible with their lives, help them practice time managment, and also helps students see and experience the real world.

In today’s world, education is more important than ever, and with education comes homework. However, many teachers give too much homework, which makes students extremely stressed. In addition, some are into sports or after school activities, and some have part time jobs they have to work at, which adds additional stress to the already overworked students. Mounds of homework can cause students to be under so much stress that it affects them mentally, physically, and emotionally. Stress can make students sick with colds, stomach aches, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, and/or anxiety disorders (Menninger and Dugan).

I, being employed with a part-time job, truly do believe that there is no wrong in having a part-time job while being a student. I honestly think that it is an awesome, great idea for students to have part-time jobs before they graduate from high school -- if they have the time and resources to do so. Students who are responsible, or learn responsibility, have nothing to loose but all to gain by having a job. There are a few key points that prove students having part-time jobs is an awesome concept which I am going to point out.
Workload on student give them a great stress, and pressure. Non-integrated school work can greatly affect the student learning performance. They can’t focus on what they need to do because the work given by the teacher is simultaneously and not integrated. The student is exhausted from this workload and can’t think properly. It is important for the teacher to have a clear view of the intended learning outcomes and the corresponding learning activities which could be the most appropriate, so that they assign an appropriate type and number of projects, exercises and assignments (EFPL, 2016). What happens to the students’ is always rely on the teacher decision. They must observe their student if what thing are more benefitable for them and what ways they can contribute to the learning process of the student. non-integrated school task can affect the student learning performance based on the past researches.
