Chapter 2. There are many different kind of school task that is given by the teachers to the students every day. Some of this are: assignments, projects, portfolio’s and etc. There is some time that the teacher in all subject given you a task, just thinking about the many things that a student must do they might explode their mind. That is what you called non-integrated school task where a given task is not unified but scattered or not together. Workload on student give them a great stress, and pressure. Non-integrated school work can greatly affect the student learning performance. They can’t focus on what they need to do because the work given by the teacher is simultaneously and not integrated. The student is exhausted from this workload and can’t think properly. It is important for the teacher to have a clear view of the intended learning outcomes and the corresponding learning activities which could be the most appropriate, so that they assign an appropriate type and number of projects, exercises and assignments (EFPL, 2016). What happens to the students’ is always rely on the teacher decision. Thomas Jefferson was a man who believed that all American citizens need to be educated so that they may exercise their rights. He saw public education as essential to a democracy. One proposal he made for public education would guarantee that all children could attend public schools for three years. However, much like other early school reforms, this proposal received much rejection and was never brought into being. High school is a time for students to develop new interests, talents, and hobbies. As well as, prepare them with material they need for college or the workforce. Most schools, Sequoyah High School being amongst one of these schools, are lacking the resources that students need in order to pursue these academic interests. Although Sequoyah High School is a great high school for students in Monroe County, there are several issues that still need to change in order to help better the school system as a whole.
Students are not prepared for the stress coming from the University workload when they leave high school. In high school students are assigned a major project, then it is weeks before they are assigned another. Teachers give students weeks, if not months to prepare for a major assignment. High school teachers also accommodate for tests or projects in other classes. When students get to University, they are assigned many major assignments at the same time in different courses and have very little time to complete them. Because of the Ontario School System, students are not prepared for the stresses of a University workload.
Although the living conditions of children are getting lot better than when we were kids, the children study more time than we did. The pupils have to get up at earlier than 7 o 'clock to make sure they won’t be late for school. Not only have that, these pupils still had to participate in various after school program, and a lot of variety of training during the weekends. The most pressure is homework. As a summer school teacher, I always can hear kids say that the teacher gave them too much work, had to spend two hours a day to compete the homework, and have no time to play. Is it too much pressure for the kids? That is the question for most of the parents. What should the parents as should do to let these children relax and do not have that much pressure? “The typical student, even in high school does not spend more than an hour per day on homework” (Loveless NP). However, there is an ongoing dispute between critics on whether a lot of homework has more negative effects than positive effects, and vice versa. Homework is the greatest tool for student success, whether they realize it or not, homework is the key to success, it may not be to fun, but it has many positive effects. Homework improves academic success, it develops non-school skills, and it helps involve parents.
The Civil Rights Movement was a difficult but necessary time of change in America. In 1963 Daisy Bates, President of the Arkansas chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said “More than any other single event in many years, Little Rock demonstrated the gaping discrepancy between the Declaration of Independence, one of the most precious documents of American history, and the reality of twentieth century America… The impact on Americans and on the world was one of Little Rock’s historical contributions to the over- all crusade for rights and dignity.” Our county was built on equality but to this day we continue the crusade for it, racially, sexually, religiously, etc. It takes courage to change and the Little Rock Nine embodied that.
Instructors, homework, projects, papers that are due, extracurricular organizations are attributes to college compression and often cause students to stress-out. However, college students are not only compression or stressed-out at school by instructors, projects, or organizational activities, but are at times compression by the environment in which they live. Because of schoolwork and social difficulties, students are at times generally inclined to become overwhelmed by their situation and do not efficiently overcome his/her circumstances as needed. On the other hand, compression can be a boost to procrastinators in order for them to get the task done; but as a result, the work is not up to the instructor’s expectations. There are pros and cons of college compression, and students should be aware of each. Compressions also have several positive aspects. The Pros or the advantages of college compression are sometimes effective because it gives the students the adrenaline rush that is needed in order for them to start the assignment and to complete it on time. Additionally, depending on the length of the assignment, the student occasionally is more creative with his/her work and will effectively work faster because of the attention and strength that rises when the body is under compression. Furthermore, students take stress as a replacement for self-discipline because they cannot start working without a time or date compression.
Harris Cooper, a researcher on homework from Duke University, claims that too much homework causes stress. In this I paper will talk about the damaging effects homework has on a child, how homework causes students to dropout of school, and some ideas for an alternative to homework.
Homework offers multiple benefits for real life. One benefit of homework is that it helps the student develop essential skills. In order to help foster an understanding across curriculum areas, integration needs to unify the subject matter in the students’ minds through making connections between subject areas and exploring how these relate to their everyday lives. Integration of content is important and potentially very effective because the brain processes information through connections. If teachers help their students create connections between subject-area material, then they will potentially increase the amount of long-term knowledge retained by the students (Beane, 1997). Integration is also important due to the fact that there is a growing emphasis on application of knowledge rather than rote memorization and due to the fact that knowledge is not fixed (Beane, 1997). Integration allows students to look at things from different angles and to explore the grey areas that may be a part of the various concepts.
In addition, academic work can make a student also be stressed out. Many student worries are about earning a high score in test, quiz, also classwork. My experience in earning a grade has been stressful, because certain teachers make learning hard even if the work is a simple step. Sometimes a student need to take six to seven classes per semester and the professors can assign new assignments for each classes. The students need to submit all the assignments before the deadline and as the deadline closes in pressure keeps building up. It can monumental task to complete two to three assignments a day or sometimes up to seven per week. Thus, the students will not have enough time to concentrate on the assignments as they also need to do other things such as attending classes, getting involved in co-curricular activities and part time job. Thus, the students will be stressed because of lack of time to finish the assignments. Some assignments are group assignments that need to be done with other students. If every group member cannot give their full commitment to do the assignments together, the students will be stressed too. So a lot of assignments can be one of the causes of stress among university students. And then there are exams and midterms which can be very stressful on it 's own as the results of those exams will reflect on a student 's future career
A big cause of academic pressure relates to students having poor time management. Students have to take into consideration the course load verse the time available as a stressful factor in academic pressure. My perception of course load positively correlates with exam stress and academic pressure. Problems with this stressor can also lead to all different kinds of side effects including depression which can contribute or interfere with effective study habits and as a result weaken academic achievement even more. Problems associated with this stressor can even lead or affect a student’s future. The competition for grades, and maintaining good grades and academic achievement not only can affect student’s career choices but can even create financial problems as a result of paying for tuition and expenses anyway even after not performing well academically. Weather you perform well or not, academically performance can affect students who are planning to apply for admission to graduate school while they struggle to excel. The same is true for those who need or are seeking scholarship funding or have no other choice
