Minors should be able to get tattoos and piercings without parental consent. Minors have their own mentality, body and thoughts. If a minor wants to decorate their body, then they should have that right to do so, regardless of any other opinions. Minors should be able to make their own decisions with their bodies to learn consequences and lessons or they can show off and be proud of it. Parents should be supportive of their children expressing themselves, but of course, support them safely.
If a minor doesn’t receive permission from their parent to get a tattoo piercing they could easily sneak off and get one in an unprofessional state, which could cause infections, hepatitis B & C, and other blood borne pathogens. Hepatitis could be caused from infected needles and what not. When getting a tattoo or piercing the place needs to be sterile and sanitary. Many precautions need to be taken for a tattoo. If minors around 16 can make adult decisions like moving out or living on their own than a choice about a tattoo shouldn’t shock the parent. Their body, their choice. Many older people say that it’ll lead down a bad road or people who have them are bad people, but tattoos and piercings don’t define their personality. Body art can determine whether the minor learns from it or doesn’t regret their choice (debate.org).
Tattoos are a way to express a person’s feelings. Minors can find a way through tattoos and piercings, people protest everything nowadays. A teens dislikes and like could be expressed through body art. The first amendment is freedom of expression, as it should be. A 16 year old getting a tattoos or piercing shouldn’t be a big deal, some of them are doing way worse.
