All students have to take at least one mandatory extracurricular activity. Students could be greatly benefited by that in more ways than one. Some studies show that the average American teenager spends 75%-90% of their time using a cell phone or some other electronic device than spending time with actual human beings. A large number of parents would probably agree to that as well. American teenagers are able to interact behind their phones; however, they aren't building effective face-to-face relationships. Doing extracurricular activities, whether it is yearbook or basketball, may help us to grow up to be better people and to develop more meaningful connections with others. I agree that having to do at least one mandatory school-based extracurricular activity is an extremely good idea.

In certain types of extracurricular activities (e.g., sports) students will be able to gain some physical activity while doing it. Some examples of some extracurricular sports include but are not limited to cheering, basketball, softball, volleyball, swimming, etc. They all include some level of physical activity. Even though some of the extracurricular activities offered may not involve a whole lot of physical activity, it is still good for the kids who decide that they are going to take an extracurricular that involves physical activity. I believe that physical activity is a good thing and it can lead to fit and healthy students. So, all of the students doing sports would be able to get some type of physical activity. I believe that in middle school, it is a necessity for kids to be involved in extracurricular sports to learn knew skills that they can apply on and off the field. Due to budget cuts, more and more schools have had to cut extracurricular sports. I know that I want sports to come back and so do many kids in middle school. Sports will benefit your health and many other aspects that help you become successful.
My first reason is schools should not get rid of sports because private and club sports are too expensive for most families. Schools should keep the sports programs. It helps increase kids test scores and improve academics the sport programs can make a kid confident in themselves about everything so the kid can get a better score and better grades. Students will not even join clubs or sports teams because they are so worried about studying and devoting all of their time to school work. Joining a sports team would only take about three hours a day at most and that is too much of the students time when they should have at least that to spare. Joining a club would take way less time, but it is still too demanding for a student to commit. They are so worried that they will not get good grades if they do not spend every minute they have doing school work or studying.
Students have different learning needs and requirements. My placement school acknowledges this difference and allow students to participate in extracurricular activities they are interested in. This school had a wide range of dance, sports and STEM programs that students can participate in. It is important that schools provide programs for students that allows them to develop skills, knowledge and experience in subjects they are interested in. This not only motivates the students, but gives them something to look forward to.
Many parents and teachers agree with this side but there are other parents, students, and teachers who disagree. I am choosing to disagree because there are many reasons why there should be no extracurricular activity. The first reason why I chose to disagree is because the students would struggle with this requirement for many different reasons. One struggle is that most students already have after school activities. Being a student myself I know this struggle because I go to gymnastics four days out of the five days of the school week.

Some activity clubs we provide include, dancing, running, jump roping, basketball and soccer clubs, just to name a few. These clubs encourage kids to stay active.
