Students have different learning needs and requirements. My placement school acknowledges this difference and allow students to participate in extracurricular activities they are interested in. This school had a wide range of dance, sports and STEM programs that students can participate in. It is important that schools provide programs for students that allows them to develop skills, knowledge and experience in subjects they are interested in. This not only motivates the students, but gives them something to look forward to.
At my placement school, all students are expected to participate in social and cultural events, such as swimming carnival or athletics, even VCE students. I feel it is important that students get to participate in these
activities, it helps them relax and allows them to experience school sport events for the last time. Unfortunately, I was not able to observe my mentor teacher use a variety, or creative, way of assessing students. All assessment tasks were done traditionally, formal test and checking class book work. I too believe that teachers should employ a variety of methods of assessing students. Creative assessment, are enjoyable and can also encourage students to think and apply their knowledge and skill in a different way. Furthermore, it can help students to cope with test anxiety, and help them achieve results that truly reflect their knowledge and skills. Gardner’s multiple intelligence supports the idea that students have different abilities and ways of thinking. It can be challenging for teachers, to devise assessment which caters for, and is effective at giving students an equal chance at succeeding in. I do acknowledge that this not possible for VCE, but is suitable for junior secondary. Interestingly, the school has a special program for the year 9, called connect. Connect focuses on community, global issues and personal development. Students are assessed in different ways depending on which topic they are studying. This includes making presentations, participating in an “Amazing Race” or designing their own studies and creating hypothesis and collecting data. This unit allows students to be creative and uses the skills they learn in other subjects, such as collecting and analyzing data from math or presenting information from English.
Prompt: In 500 words or more, describe your collegiate experience thus far. How has this experience and the knowledge you've gained influenced what you plan to study? How have they influenced your decision to apply to St. Edward's?
To help students want to go to school all year long, they can get involved in different activities they enjoy. For example, if a student likes to play sports, then the school should let that student join a sports team. I think letting students join programs and do different activi...
Schools should allow students to participate in club-sponsored events during school hours. While I do not believe that clubs should primarily use class-time to meet, not all club-sponsored events can be completed after school or over the weekend. Therefore students should participate in events during the school day because the events benefit not only the students, but the communities as well. However, parents and teachers may argue that students would miss out on learning in the classroom.
Collin Powell once stated that, "The commander in the field is always right, unless proved otherwise." in this situation I don't stand with our commander of this school on that extracurricular activity should be mandatory. As a student of Elizabeth Davis Middle School, making extracurricular activities mandatory for students to do isn't probable because of some of the challenges the students may face by participating, such as students with responsibilities at home, a student may be uncooperative, and there grades. Students who attend school are there to choose there own path and make decisions on how they see themselves in the distant future, they shouldn't have to choose an extracurricular activity if he or she does not feel like that
I am doing my externship at Abeltin & Migoya LLP. Currently, I am assisting the supervising attorneys with drafting and responding to discovery. The first goal I would like to accomplish during the externship is to develop client interviewing skills. The second goal is to develop and learn good lawyering skills. The third goal is to build more confidence in asking questions and approaching new projects. I discussed all three these goals with my supervising attorney on the first day of my externship.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
activities are a crucial part of school because it shows you are involved into making your school
Massoni (2011) claims that extracurricular activities have a positive influence on student’s academic performance, he states extracurricular activities are associated with better grades and school completion and higher academic achievement (p.2). Many community college extracurricular activities require students to maintain a certain grade point average to participate, which forces students to do well academically if they wish to continue their involvement in particular extracurricular activities. Therefore, student involvement in extracurricular activities requires students to be accountable for their academic
Just about every high school in the United States provides students with the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, volunteering, music, academic or interest clubs, and student government . The question arising is whether low income students are less likely to participate in these extracurricular activities. Understanding the causes and reasons behind the significantly lower amount of extracurricular activity participation among low socioeconomic students incites a systematic approach to a solution. If impoverished students are unequally participating in extracurricular activities compared to high-income students, than they are also deprived of the procured benefits such as leadership experiences and social
Teaching is much more than just work inside of a classroom; it is our job as a teacher to get to know our students, on a personal level, inside and out of school. An excellent way to perform this task is through extracurricular activities within the school corporation. Throughout this expectation, I will demonstrate how my knowledge, and participation, in extracurricular activities has bettered my student relationships, and thus bettered my teaching.
Throughout the development of a child, one way for growth has been through the practice and enrollment in various extracurricular activities. As per defined in the dictionary, extracurricular activities (ECA), are activities outside the normal curriculum of school; the activities are voluntary and can range from social activities to philanthropic activities, like swimming volleyball, etc. Children getting enrolled in these activities raise a lot of controversy. One side of the debate believes that forcing children into extracurricular will be of benefit to them. The benefits arise from assisting in the development of the child, skills to be learned, lessons to be taken in, opportunities, and several more. On the other hand, the other side
My school's principle regards the idea that each student should participate in at least one extracurricular activity. This notion has been a controversial concept around the globe. Lots of people believe that students should have to participate in after school activities, but on the other hand some do not. Some students don't show interest in many things in school, however, they do show interest in things such as drugs and alcohol. In my experience of Student Council an extracurricular actives, I found it enjoyable and fun. I made so many new friends and helped out in my community. Most kids participate in sports, student yearbook staff, and other teacher sponsored clubs which are great after school activities, they also teach kids many
While most evidence in the literature proves that extra curricular activities improve academic performances, Solanco School District has no program supporting or promoting the link between the two. This study will examine the effects of participation in extra curricular activities on student academic performance at Solanco High School. Findings from this study could be examined by Solanco High School and similar school districts to support and promote programs of extra curricular activities at...
The extracurricular activities students join will show colleges or universities who they are. Activities range from sports and the arts to interest clubs and community work, so children have plenty to choose from that will suit their array of interests. Mandatory extracurricular activities will encourage children to explore and try different clubs or sports that promote important development skills through enjoyable experiences. Children develop time-management skills, build self-esteem, and practice goal setting with extracurricular activities.
Imagine walking across the stage in just a few years from now. Having thousands of eyes pointed at you as you take that emotional walk to finally receive your high school diploma. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular activities and parents should begin to give their kids a little push to get them more involved.
