There are a lot of leaders who have effectively given back to the community to better their organization. In fact, a lot of non-profit organizations have done exactly that to grow. One example that comes to mind is LeBron James. He is the founded of the LeBron James Family Foundation. They actively give back to the Akron, Ohio area through programs such as Wheel for Education, Akron I Promise Network, Boys and Girls Club, and Time to Promise (The LeBron James Family Foundation, 2015). Servant leadership is a designation coined by Robert Greenleaf in 1970 in an essay entitled The Servant as Leader. In this essay, he describes the servant leader and a servant first contrary to one who is a leader first. The difference is the servant chooses to put others needs before his own while the leader first may later become a servant from the promptings of a sense of right and wrong or simply because they are coerced in that direction (Greenleaf, 1991).
Servant leadership, as defined by Kretiner and Kinkicki (2015, p.486), is putting the needs of others, including employees, customers, and community ahead of one’s own needs. This management style requires selflessness and humility from management so the organization can focus on serving key stakeholders. There are ten characteristics of a servant-leader as identified in the text
The importance of servant leadership should not be underestimated and it can be simplified and embodied in one timeless phrase: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. When applied to leadership the result can be phenomenal. Those who wish to serve do so with their hearts, it is not forced nor is it with resentment. The servant leader serves out of acceptance and ownership of their ability and duty.
Wegman's corporate structure has been a marvel for several years and counting. They have pride in the fact it is an employee first company and customer second. In this paper, I will highlight how this business model fits into servant leadership and how it applies to several different marketing strategies. The first marketing strategy I wish to highlight regarding Wegmans and servant leadership is social responsibility and how they have turned social responsibilities into their corporate responsibility. The last marketing strategy I want to emphasize is internal marketing.
Servant leadership is a philosophy and set of practices that augments the lives of individuals, builds better organizations, and creates a more just and caring world, they put the team first, and themselves second (MindTools, 2015). Servant leaders are able to demonstrate their traits through interaction with followers and other leaders within the organization. The characteristics of servant leaders include their commitment to the growth of people, stewardship, and building community, and provide leaders with the opportunity to experience change and to invite followers to change (Savage-Austin & Honeycutt 2011). Servant leadership encourages leaders and followers to ‘raise one another to higher levels of motivation and morality’, and set their leadership focus: follower’s first, organizations second, their own needs last (Sendjaya, Sarros, & Santora, 2008). The servant leader focuses on the needs of others to include team members. They acknowledge people’s perspectives, and give them the support needed to meet their goals. Servant leaders involve members when decisions are appropriate helping build a stronger commitment within the team. Strong qualities of servant leadership are trust, appreciation for others, and empowerment. Honesty and integrity form the moral foundation of effective leadership through the four values of truth telling, promise

Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Becoming a successful leader throughout this journey has provided a progress of keeping an open mind in wanting to help the community, and organization to thrive in this changing world and identifying different strengths and blind spots at the same time. I have experienced many several touch points that have influenced my perspective on leadership and have more courage to become an overall person in adaptive leadership. With specific leadership skills, many groups will all have something in common, with that in mind leadership requires specific concepts to have a purpose and work skillfully together. Leadership is becoming increasingly dominate now-a-days just because people rely on ruling over others. In this paper, I will discuss three ways
