The Conceptual Framework created for the SUNY Cortland teacher candidates is important for many reasons. It was important for the campus to create a “College-wide shared vision for teacher education” (CF 3) as they prepared for their NCATE accreditation. The college wanted to make sure that the framework formed a true representation of their program goals, identity, and beliefs. This conceptual framework is important for the individual candidate because it is used to guide, and provide “a sound foundation for assessment”(CF 7). As stated on page 11 of the framework, “SUNY Cortland is dedicated to developing candidates’ knowledge, integrity, professional standards and commitment to their future students and school community”. This is very important as every piece of the statement can go hand-in-hand with the NAEYC Standards. The Conceptual Framework is also important for candidates as it sets to build three key components in each individual. These components are personal responsibility, social justice, and global understanding. What is also unique about the Conceptual Framework is that it is seen as a “living document”, meaning that it has the ability to be changed whenever change is needed, and whenever we uncover new discoveries of early childhood development. My intention in writing this paper is to gain a better understanding of what is expected from me as a candidate in a SUNY Cortland education program. I hope that I will be able to take the information that I learn from the Conceptual Framework and use it in my future teaching.

Conclusion:
After reading the Conceptual Framework, I have a much greater understanding of what SUNY Cortland is expecting of me as a candidate. I also have a better understanding of why we put together portfolios. It is important in many aspect of the Conceptual Framework, most importantly the professional commitments area. I hope that I will be able to take the requirements and really focus on what I need to know to be successful in teaching and later take those skills into my own classroom.

In 2010, Charlotte Danielson wrote an article, “Evaluations That Help Teachers”, for the magazine The Effective Educator. The purpose of this article was to explain how a teacher evaluation system, such as her own Framework for Teaching, should and can actually foster teacher learning rather than just measure teacher competence, which is what most other teacher evaluation systems do. This topic is especially critical to decision-making school leaders. Many of the popular teacher evaluation systems fail to help schools link teacher performance with meaningful opportunities for the teachers to reflect on and learn from in order to grow professionally. With the increased attention on the need for more rigorous student standards, this then is an enormous opportunity missed. Students can only achieve such rigorous expectations if their teachers can effectively teach them, and research has shown that teachers who are evaluated by systems that hold them to accountability and provide them for continuous support and growth will actually teach more effectively.

In the Lawrence family, they are a married couple, which means more income for the family. Whereas the Ashley family has one income. Danielson specializes in the design of teacher evaluation to ensure teacher quality and to promote professional learning. In this reflective analysis of NAEYC Standard three, Observing, Documenting, and Assessing to Support Young Children and Families, I will first reflect on my growth, as an early childhood professional, during my course of study. Secondly, I will address my strengths related to the standard and discuss areas in need of further professional development. Finally, I will outline my goals for future growth and development. Early childhood educators demonstrate professional competence by understanding the role of assessment and the various methods of assessing student learning, including observation, documentation and standardized testing. These assessment strategies, along with partnerships with parents, can support students in their development and growth, by informing instruction and evaluating instructional practices.
This essay discusses five veteran teacher responses to ten questions. Interviews were conducted by telephone. Those interviews consist of three, five, ten, fifteen, and twenty year teachers. However, the interview included the teaching styles, how they relate to real world situations that involves education, and their personal educational philosophies. The ten questions and responses will be discussed and evaluated in comprehending if these teachers have the benefit of students’ education in focus or on the back burner. Question number one consisted of their philosophies or views about the education system before they actually worked in a classroom. Also have their views changed when working as a teacher became a reality. Second question specify after working in a classroom setting and gaining some experience, how have they been able begin to incorporate their values with the concept of the school environment? Third question regarded their experiences working as a teacher and the advice they would they a potential teacher as they began their journey of becoming a teacher. Fourth question regarded the methods used to work with students with behavior issues that interrupt the class while they are trying to teach a lesson. Fifth question involved their views about the No Child Left behind including its impact on children’s academic performance. Sixth question concerns how social and economic status has an impact on a child’s learning. Seventh question regards their teaching style when they began teaching and if they have the same teaching style after having years of teaching experience. Eighth question consists of ways that NCLB be improved regarding your classroom experience.
Every teacher has this potential whether they are aware of it or not. I have been a teacher for nine years in early childhood education and within those nine years I have become very aware of how powerful the smallest act of caring can turn a person’s life around or even just make someone’s day a little better. Being a preschool teacher has brought me great pleasure to my life simply brightening a child’s day and knowing that I am making a difference in their life. Through my journey as a teacher I have thought about how I can advance in my career field and still be active with children on a daily basis and continue making a difference in each child’s life as well as their parents. How one plans to tackle all of the challenges will help them when making decisions in the future. To many people, early childhood education is unnecessary. I realize that going into this teaching field, I will most likely have to interact with adults who will argue that it is useless.
